Nick Hart, James Eagle, Kate Owen: The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road SE15 3BE, Friday 31 March, Doors open 7pm. https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout Nick Hart is an award-winning singer and multi-instrumentalist whose work with English folk song is rapidly gaining him a reputation as one of the most acclaimed performers of his generation. His considered approach to accompaniment is informed by a deep respect for the nuances of traditional song and his captivating live performances are a testament to the importance he places on story-telling. Nick has released three solo albums, 'Nick Hart Sings Eight English Folk Songs' (2017), Nick Hart Sings Nine English Folk Songs (2019) and "Nick Hart Sings Ten English Fol Songs" (2022) all to critical acclaim. Nick has performed as an actor/musician, has worked as a composer/musical director for theatre, and is a sought after teacher and workshop leader. James Eagle and Kate Owen are fine unaccompanied singers and longstanding visitors to our monthly Singarounds.

  4. The Goose Is Out! Kit Hawes & Aaron Catlow, Alex MacDonald , Rowan Gatherer, The Ivy House, Friday 24 Feb. Doors 7pm. https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout One of the most exciting duos to emerge from the UK in recent times, Kit Hawes & Aaron Catlow combine heartfelt musicality, unparalleled virtuosity and vocal harmony. Using the folk music of the British Isles as a catalyst, Kit and Aaron create dynamic and effervescent interpretations of centuries-old material as well as original songs and compositions, all the while celebrating the timeless aural quality of a guitar, fiddle and vocals duet. Alex MacDonald performs a wide variety of music – blues, jazz, country, ragtime, bluegrass, as well as traditional music from Scotland, Ireland, Spain, America, Turkey, Jamaica, England, and Trinidad. For several years he and his partner Sarah Jones ran Tooting Folk in South East London. Alex replaces Caroline Stupnicka who has sadly had to pull out. Rowan Gatherer is a London based folk singer whose who's particular interest in Medieval music led him to the Hurdy Gurdy as his primary instrument.   6. The Goose Is Out ! : Wizz Jones, Simeon Jones, The Winches, The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road, London SE15 3BE Friday 27 Jan. Tickets here: www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout Wizz Jones is an exceptional singer guitarist and occasionally songwriter. He was originally inspired by watching Big Bill Broonzy, Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Davey Graham. Wizz subsequently influenced many players in the sixties Clapton, Renbourn and others. He continues to be an influence on so many up and coming guitarists and after many years is still drawing large audiences, sometimes alone or sometimes with son Simeon on harmonica, sax and flute. At our Seasonal Singaround we usually intersperse carols and other seasonal songs sung in unison with individual and small group songs (like our usual Singarounds). This year we'll not have the unison carols as Sue has Covid and she projects the verses of the carols on to a big screen. Granny's Attic, Liam Cooper, Phil Stevens The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road, SE15 3BE, Friday 25 November, 7pm. https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout With exceptional musicianship and boundless energy, Granny’s Attic are going from strength to strength. Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne (melodeon, anglo concertina, vocals), George Sansome (guitar, vocals) and Lewis Wood (violin, vocals) have honed their skills touring the UK and Europe since 2009. They are much loved by audiences up and down the country, with bookings everywhere from Cambridge Folk Festival to Cecil Sharp House. The trio have been heralded for their lively performances and skilled delivery of traditional material, playing with verve, energy and their own inimitable style Liam Cooper is based in South East London, he is a fine singer and very accomplished on a number of stringed instruments. He is part of the duo Bolt The Door with Tommy MacDonald. His first solo album is available from here: https://liamjcfolk.bandcamp.com/releases Phil Stevens has been a supporter and regular visitor to the Goose Is Out Singaround for many years and is known for his highly original arrangements of old and not so old songs, sometimes with a ukulele.
  10. The Goose Is Out! John Kirkpatrick, John Haseler, Trista Selous. The Ivy House, Friday 28 October. 7 pm. Ticket link: www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout John Kirkpatrick has been dancing, singing, and playing his way around the English folk scene since he joined Hammersmith Morris Men in 1959 at the age of twelve. Displaying a rare skill on a variety of push-pull squeezeboxes - the melodeon, the button accordion, and the Anglo concertina - he has been fully professional since 1970, not only with vast amounts of solo appearances, but also in all kinds of duos, trios, and bands – including spells in Steeleye Span, The Albion Band, Trans Europe Diatonique, in a long term duo with Roy Bailey, Band of Hope, lengthy stints with Richard Thompson’s Band, The Sultans of Squeeze, and Brass Monkey. In the mid 1990s he led his own John Kirkpatrick Band. More recently he replaced John Tams as the lead singer with folk-rock band Home Service, and now Mr Tams is back in the fold again, the two Johns share singing duties. Since the demise of Brass Monkey, John appears in an occasional duo with Martin Carthy. John is a much loved firm favourite and we're delighted to welcome him back to The Goose Is Out! “Kirkpatrick's buoyant presence and lust for this music sounds more rampant than ever” - Colin Irwin - fRoots John Haseler and Trista Selous have been long-time visitors to our Singarounds. John is a fine singer whose stridenet voice can fill a room.He sings mainly, though not entirely, traditional songs. Trista sings in English and French, is a fine songwriter, and runs the very popular Effra Singaround in Camberwell .
