Thanks tezzah, I have a very similar e-mail thread this morning via HML Andertons who are the managing agent for the adjoining flats. They are in contact with both the Dulwich Estate and Stonegate pub who are the leaseholder. Apparently there was an attempt made to move them on yesterday, this obviously hasn't happened (these people never seem to go easily), but the solicitors are doing their thing to get a court order to enable some progress, and Stonegate have a clean-up company ready to go in to clear the rubbish once they do go.

The new post-May Thameslink timetable seems to have appeared in the National Rail database. There are some good improvements here and there, but the bad news for Dulwich is that Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye and Nunhead appear be getting 30% fewer trains towards Blackfriars between 08:00 and 09:00 on weekdays. Currently we get a mixture of seven Thameslink and Southeastern trains: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/DMK/to/BFR/2018/05/14/0800-0900?stp=WVS&show=pax-calls&order=wtt As of May's big timetable 'improvement' we will get four Thameslinks, and one Southeastern (and after that, a 20 minute gap in services until the next train at 09:06): http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/DMK/to/BFR/2018/05/21/0800-0900?stp=WVS&show=pax-calls&order=wtt It's nice these trains run pretty much all day, but is not going to help people trying to travel in to work. As I've long suspected, Thameslink is all about outer London improvements, and will deliver a slap in the face for those of us in Zone 2.

Thames Water dealing with a leak affecting 200 customers this morning at the south end of Lordship Lane (and 1 customer = 1 house OR 1 block of flats so total number of people could be a lot higher). They really need to get their act together.

homeless man in wheelchair living outside harvester pub
ianjm replied to tigerranks's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Last night he was at 516 Lordship Lane (the modern block opposite the shops just north of pub), sleeping in the red brick communal bins hut just off the road, but he seems to be gone this evening, would have spoken to him if I'd caught him. It's a real shame they kicked him out of The Grove because he seemed to have a bunch of things in there like a gas hob which I bet he's lost, and he wasn't doing anyone any harm. It's all been boarded up with metal now. -
No water at the bottom of Lordship Lane right now... in Gloucester/Duke's court by the Grove Tavern. Thinking it's probably related to the leak works, hope they put it on again soon I need a shower!

Accident on Lordship Lane this morning (November 20)
ianjm replied to ianjm's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've been out of the country for a few days but I'm really shocked at your reaction donaldduck, It was simply out of concern and empathy. I obviously don't know the victim personally but just like JimH said about the Philippines - empathy comes from putting yourself in the person's shoes and thinking how terrible it must have been for them and their friends & family. Feeling like this, even about a stranger, is a pretty common reaction and human experience. We tend to care more (and our news reports more, which is a reflection of this) about things that happen where we can identify more and are closer to home. Compare the coverage of the Boston Bombings to bombings that occur every day in Iraq and kill far more people. America is a country we can relate to and identify with much better because they're more similar to us. When something like this happens literally on your doorstep, on a road that you walk down practically every day, it's pretty natural to have questions. You could call it 'nosy' - I enquired because I live in this community and wanted to know what happened to pass on my regards and see if anything could be done to prevent it happening again if it was indeed a road traffic accident although I was only guessing. We all know some of the roads around Dulwich are dangerous. Perhaps I was wrong. In any case, I hope your friend is recovering and I understand that your emotions are probably raw at the moment having been through this kind of hell. To Annabel too, my condolences. -
what happened to the electronic bus times thing?
ianjm replied to shell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You can see the electronic countdown for any bus stop online now, using your Smartphone. Even works for obscure stops that don't have or never had screens. Go to http://m.countdown.tfl.gov.uk/ (or use one of the prettier Android/iPhone apps like Citymapper). I think this is how they're intending people to get this info in the future, rather than installing any more screens. -
Definitely inform the police. If the other car (if it's the same model and colour) were to get a speeding ticket or unpaid congestion charge, the crime reference number would need to presented as part of the appeal evidence. Pain in the arse.

New entrance to Denmark Hill station

Thank goodness we don't have to go through airport scanners at train stations... yet. -
PeckhamRose, if that was at me then let me clear up my muddy phrasing - I wasn't meaning to imply any correlation between higher ownership levels and the estate being nicer. I actually have no idea what mix there is on the LL Estate and was only being nosy. I've seen Council Estates in London (and indeed in Southwark) that are admittedly not that nice but the ones I know in Dulwich (Lordship Lane and Dog Kennel Hill) have always seemed very quiet and without problems. In fact I'd often wondered if the opposite correlation might exist, does a council take their eye off the ball with regards to maintenance if they're only acting as a landlord to an estate of privately owned flats, or are they a good landlord?
-
How do you find out what percentage are privately owned? I am mainly just being nosy about my neighbours (LL Estate which has always seemed quiet and well maintained!), wondered if this information is freely available somewhere?

New entrance to Denmark Hill station
ianjm replied to youandiaredominoes's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Maybe they'll just have a setup with two coffee bars, one pointing in to the ticketed area and one pointing to the outside world, creating the required physical separation. Seems like an odd arrangement though, and a huge space to be filled by just a coffee shop. The queues weren't short at the old place during rush hour, but I can't imagine there'd be enough trade to support a coffee shop the whole size of the old ticket hall! -
Happened about 9-9:30, just south of Barcelona restaurant outside the takeaway shops. Seemed like there was some poor chap on the ground surrounded by paramedics with a rubbish lorry parked awkwardly a few metres away, at a guess he'd been hit by it. Just wondered if anyone saw what happened as it looked pretty nasty. Hope he was OK but I rather suspect not :(

Cheapest place to swim in Dulwich?
ianjm replied to carrotcake's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Cheapest place to swim must be the boating lake in Dulwich Park - you'll even get a free towel from a local PSCO or police officer when you're done! -
I saw the same van chased up Lordship Lane just before 7pm, at the junction with Court Lane. It came through at some speed being chased by an unmarked police car on blues & twos. Clipped another car that was navigating around a bus! No injuries but the headlight and rear bumper seemed to have suffered some damage, the van disappeared up towards Goose Green so I guess this is where it ended up! I've lived in London for 8 years (although only 6 months in Dulwich) and this is the first ever police chase I've seen in person.
