  2. Hi we were there a few months ago for the weekend and it rained the whole time so we mainly found indoor things! The transport museum is great it's in an old train station and you can go on the trains. Retiro park is lovely and I think they have puppet shows etc at the weekend. And mercado de San Miguel is fantastic more for you then kids loads of tapas and wine to be had. Enjoy we had a great time despite the rain!
  3. Hey not sure I can make that date as might have a cross country race that day. If I get back in time will drop in as would be great to meet you all.
  4. Just posting to recommend Shaun. He has just installed a new fuse board and extractor fans. He is very thorough and helpful to come up with ways to solve a few tricky issues we were having. We would definitely call him next time we need an electrician.
  5. Hello! I am also on FH Sydenham borders with a 3 and 1 year old and would be happy to meet up
  6. We are off on holiday from gatwick in a few weeks and are going to get a taxi. It's just occurred to me that we are taking my 4 months old car seat on holiday with us but not my 2 year olds. Does anyone have a recommendation for a local taxi firm that provides child care seats?
  7. I have been a member of both. Likeminders where we used to live - only used them once as we then found a local baby sitter. When we moved here we didn't know any baby sitters so joined sitters. I have been impressed with sitters and you can add you favourite baby sitters so have had same sitter more than once. I think they are very similar but sitters is much cheaper
  8. Yes we do! We moved here about three months ago from West London and love it here. I agree about the high street it is a bit run down and obviously isn't comparable to ED but it is quite a useful high street. Having said this we rarely actually go to the high street. One of the things we love about it is the proximity to the surrounding areas. We are just off Kirkdale and can walk to Forest Hill in 20 mins which we often go to for a coffee or the horniman or the great butchers. 10 mins to the new swimming pool which is great for kids. 15 mins walk to crystal palace park and then a nice walk through the park to shops and cafes in CP. 5-10 min drive to Ed where we also go quite a lot. Also the area is trying to improve check out the portals pilot scheme www.see3.co.uk Regarding schools I haven't done extensive research yet as eldest is just 2 but I checked ofsteds of the nearest ones to our house and would be happy with any of them it's such a lottery that it wasn't the most important factor for our move. You also get more house for your money and the links onto London are great with the quick train to LB and the overground. Hope this helps feel free to PMme if you want any further info
  9. Hi we used Aaron 07773 410661, recommended lots on the forum, for two bedrooms recently. He has done an excellent job and was clean and tidy. Will definitely be getting him back when we get round to doing more rooms in the house.
  10. Another recommendation for Mike he did a great job fitting extra plug sockets and new ceiling light. His prices are reasonable and we would definitely use him again.
  11. We have recently used Graham Recommended a lot on the forum. He created a new hatch installed a ladder and fitted a light. He did a great job and left everything tidy. Highly recommend his no is 07930763431

  18. Hi all, Just checking in as we finally exchanged today so will definitely be moving over to South east London at the end of Jan. i am so relieved - house moving while pregnant is very stressful! Looking forward to attending some meet ups from feb. Jude we hope to do the refreshers course but I think Ariadna needs some more people to join so it can run so hopefully it will. Right off to book removals, change hospitals, sort out nursery etc etc ..... Take care all Rach X
  19. Hi my daughter has been the same. I took her to the docs today althought it was much better today but wanted to get checked before Xmas. He said there are two types of conjunctivitis bacterial which would be red and viral which might not. He said she may have had the viral kind ( but typically her eyes were fine when we went!) and prescribed some drops which I will only use if it gets worse again. They are chloramphenicol eye drops which he says you can buy over the counter. Hope this helps!
  20. Hi all, I happened upon this thread yesterday and lost a good hour or so perusing the blogs -loved them! I would be interested in meeting up. I am currently in West London but am moving to Sydenham at the end of Jan. I work part time at the moment so am around Thursday and Fridays and then on maternity leave from April with my second. Currently I am a crocheter self taught in the last year but am keen to start sewing. I think it's the new house effect I want to make lots of beautiful things for the home! For the sewers out there can anyone recommend a good sewing machine for a beginner? Rach
  21. Evening all. I am not visiting the nursery tomorrow now so won't be able to make the meetup. Our moving date is looking like the end of jan (If only we could get the solicitors to hurry up - really want to have exchanged by Xmas) so will be around then. Looking forward to meeting you all. Have fun tomorrow
  22. Hi all, Thread is getting busy now! Thanks for the advice re hospitals. I think I am going to plump for Lewisham as I would like to use the birth centre. I wanted to last time as well but my daughter had other ideas! Our house move looks like its going to be the end of Jan - just want to move now so I can get settled before the baby arrives. I might actually be down in south east London on 14th dec visiting a nursery so could possibly make the meet up at green and blue. Will let you know for sure nearer the time.
  23. Hello Can I join? You seem like a friendly bunch! I am expecting baby no 2 mid April I am currently in west London but moving to Sydenham in January (I am gatecrashing this forun though as sydenham has nothing like this!) I am keen to meet other mums as I don't really know any in the area. Am definitely keen to attend any meet ups you have next year. Also quick question I obviously have to change hospitals I think the two nearest one are lewisham or kings so just wanted to get opinions of these before I decide. Thanks Rach
