  1. I have really enjoyed being a sahp in ED. There is so much to do, check ed tots but I found when mine was 1 that tiny gym in camberwell leisure centre was really good, yoga, swimming and playgroups at children's centres such as ivydale and jessops. I was a primary school teacher and in my training in early years I remember being told nurseries were trying to recreate a good enabling home environment, so dont feel like you have to be constantly entertaining them as they learn so mych from just watching you and helping out with things around the house,eg handing out pegs when you do the washing etc . Have fun :)
  2. Des painted all the outside of our windows about 5 months ago, he did a great job and it is lasting well. He was always on time, very helpful, gave us good advice and even fixed our leaking gutter for no extra charge. If you need a good painter and one whoose work lasts then call Des.
  3. Just seen 4 young men try and steal bike or possibly bike's front wheel from a bike locked up outside the entrance of Goodrich Primary School. I think they are cruising around looking for front bike tyres as they already had one with them.
  4. Hello My son is half finnish and we would love to know other finnish families. Im English and my husband is finnish. Please let me know if anyine woukd like to meet up on a weekend. The music group on a saturday sounds good if you do have more info that would be great
  5. Bessemer grange usually do a really good messy play on a Wednesday afternoon and also have other activities for under fives. Look in the let's go guides on the southwark website
  6. Went to get a pedicure at Mothers Inc on forest hill road and thought I'd highly recommend it. I hadn't really had one since being pregnant and now running around after a toddler. The lady who owns it is very welcoming. I found it very relaxing and my toes finally look pretty. She has also got child care on site so you can go even if you have your little ones with you!
  7. We bought our seat from Margaret and she is great. Came to fit it for us and is on hand anytime we have a query. She knows her stuff. I'm really glad I heard about her and erf before I needed our second car seat.
  8. There is a group of us with babies around the same age as yours who go to the soft play at the albrighton centre on a, Monday afternoon from 1 to 3 pm ish, it's a really nice activity to go to. You are welcome to join us. If you pm me I can let you know when we next go... we usually try to go most Mondays x
  9. I have just started working as a nanny with my 11 month old looking after one of my friends 1 year olds. I absolutely love it, I'm so glad I've decided to do this as the babies get on so well and I think it's of real benefit to both of them. We have so much fun. It is tiring but in a really good way and I am really fortunate as I get on really well with the parents and we are very like minded which I think helps a lot. When I was first thinking about it, I started to ask what others thought and instantly got other parents who were interested. I think people are really keen if they know you before hand our if you meet in a play group and your a familiar face. I only do part time. I love the fact that I can earn money and still be with my child.
  10. We have also been going for the last few weeks. I came along after the recommendation from so many others and saw how good it was. The babies love Chee and her ideas. It's the only paid class I do and I also like the fact Chee shows you how to make home made toys out of stuff around the house so you get to take the ideas home with you.
  11. I've got a little bit who isn't old enough to start school yet but as a reception teacher I was intrigued by this as I often hear children say nothing after their parents ask them what they have done and I know full well they have been busy little bees!! I also agree it's too young for homework but unfortunately it is a legal requirement from the government for teachers to give homework. It's even set out how long they should be spending on it each night!
  12. I would like to recommend my doula that I had recently at my birth. Her name is Ruth Stroud and she knows an awful lot about birthing and was the most fantastic support during my labour. > > She is a trainee doula with Doula UK which means she is looking to attend more births and is currently looking for someone due Sept/October 2013. Therefore her rate is much lower , ?250 plus expenses ( which seem to be travel costs) You get at least 2 meetings before birth, can ask her to come to you whenever you want in your labour ( ie before you need to go to hospital or call the midwives of you are having a home birth) and then 2 meetings after as well as much phone and email support as you want. > Ruth described her role as my husband looking after me and she would look after both of us. E.g doing errands around the house, making tea, helping fill birth pool so my husband could stay with me, liaising with medical staff ( she would never interfere with medics but just to help them realise what you want in your labour). It was really helpful to talk through my birth plan with someone before my labour as Ruth had really helpful suggestions as well as talking over it afterwards. She also recommended things to help lower my blood pressure, which enabled me to have a home birth. > > She also runs BabyCalm courses and workshops - more info about this and her role as a Doula is on her website and facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/babycalm.earlsfield?ref=tn_tnmn http://www.babycalm.co.uk/teacher/ruth-stroud
  13. Hi there I just wanted to recommend Maurice Yeoman. I know that there are further recommendations on the forum for him, which is how I heard of him. He has just done our bathroom for us and has done a brilliant job. He is very thorough and you can rely on him giving honest opinions and making sure that he does quality work. We were on a budget and he was very good and trying to find more economic alternatives. His was always very prompt and polite and willing to give advice even when he wasn't actually working for us. His mobile phone number is 07837 168978
