  1. I was contacted by Paul details below - who came round promptly and assessed the job and did a brilliant job in just under a day.Very pleased with the results and would have no hesitation in reccomending him again. I am a carpenter and joiner, I work in and around Dulwich (currently working in Herne Hill), I am a 5 star 'velux installation partner', which means that I have received training directly from Velux and I am registered on their website. My website is www.cdmbuild.co.uk Please contact me if you would like a quote for the works Mobile 07831 581 874 Email [email protected] Kind regards Paul

  3. Brilliant music from start to finish - the day finished in the bar with the amazing Miller Anderson who with his band had probably 200 years of musical talent. Simply amazing - we are very lucky to have such a great festival and Brian who organises it all in our midst.
  4. You are connected to a rich seam of great talent Brian - can't commend you enough for what you are doing for music in this area.
  5. Many thanks for organising a lovely little festival primer there Brian all the acts were amazing but in particular was knocked out by Bruised UK, Louis Vann Johnson and Country Dirt - and bought the CD's from Bruised and Louis. The sound was brilliant too. Only slight gripe was those folk that seem to like talking when the acts are on. In the main bar I appreciate there will be some regulars who probably don't welcome their bar being taken over but in the main venue tis no excuse ! Have PM's you for a board if that will help. Many thanks to you , your sound man and all involved for a great afternoon and evening.
  6. One of the best analytical deconstructions of Christianity I've read by someone who enrolled on the Alpha Course. A long but riveting read. http://alphacoursereview.wordpress.com/ ?Whenever a man believes that he has the exact truth from God, there is in that man no spirit of compromise. He has not the modesty born of the imperfections of human nature; he has the arrogance of theological certainty and the tyranny born of ignorant assurance.? ? Robert G. Ingersoll
  7. 7 years ago it was still the same debate http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,26,122#msg-122
  8. And those that sign up will hopefully be abandoning their cars for their kids to ensure consistency and uber safety. http://www.lead.org.au/lanv3n2/lanv3n2-9.html Boris is right on this one.
  9. Keep this in mind the next time you are about to repeat a rumour or spread gossip. In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day an acquaintance ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about Diogenes?" "Wait a moment," Socrates replied, "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test." 'Triple filter?" asked the acquaintance. "That's right," Socrates continued, "Before you talk to me about Diogenes let's take a moment to filter what you're going to say. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" "No," the man said, "Actually I just heard about it." "All right," said Socrates, "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about Diogenes something good?" "No, on the contrary..." "So," Socrates continued, "You want to tell me something about Diogenes that may be bad, even though you're not certain it's true?" The man shrugged, a little embarrassed. Socrates continued, "You may still pass the test though, because there is a third filter, the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about Diogenes going to be useful to me?" "No, not really." "Well," concluded Socrates, "If what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me or anyone at all?" The man was bewildered and ashamed. This is an example of why Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem. It also explains why Socrates never found out that Diogenes was shagging his wife.
  10. a few years back the 5 joined houses were on the market for ?1.5mill the lot - would be snapped up at that price now. Stays open because they satisfy council HMO regs and provide a service to the authorities looking for 'cheap' b&b , placements for asylum seekers and the like.
  11. Yeah dont listen to the moaners ED is full of them - youngsters are pretty fed up at being priced out and then forced to rent sh&tty flats for big bucks - party on dude.
  12. Hugenot moved away from ED to the Far East many moons ago to make his fortune probably after being educated at great expense by the British State he continues to frequent and comment freely on a local forum which indicates he probably has too much time on his hands and is missing the old place.Dont worry about him he is undoubtedly very intelligent and in typical alpha male style is determined to be right in logic at every turn. This usually results in a friendless situation which means you spend excessive time on internet forums. Jacks did a great job , are real people and are sorely missed but Im sure they ll be back in some context and contributing to the British economy in some way or other. Its not about being right Hugenot its about being happy which are not neccesarily the same thing.
  13. The London Boom is part of us holding on nationally - if this stalls or falters then the UK is in a worse state than most realise and thats with effectively negative interest rates and funny money - things are pretty bad out in the provinces. ED is benefiting from this London boom - so that the overpriced skinny lattes and organic knitted wholemeal toffee crunches can continue to thrive in our much lauded independent shops.
  14. If ED crashes then the rest of the country will be in a very big chill (which might just be true) behind the scenes there is little or zero growth and massive monetary policy keeping the ship afloat - and a lot of the world thank goodness seeing London as a safe haven.
  15. Or alternatively London bucks the trend of a Euro wide recession and continues to be a safe haven for all the worlds rich - an influx of Chinese money seeking to hedge against Yuan devlauation floods into prime London property. The spill over effect into rising desirable araes such as East Dulwich is profound. 10% year on year increases means a million quid for the simplest family house apeing Clapham prices and the gentrified area sans edgy mega council blocks alllows gentrification to continue apace. The Underground finally reaches us sending prices through the roof and a tram interchange compounds the postive effect. An engaged local councillor James Barber finds national attention as a switched on engaged digital representative and his careful husbandry ensure middle class ED continues to garner the lions share of council services such as a revitalised Dulwich baths, library community centre and thriving schools. The middle class schools engagment ensures private style quality at state tax paid prices further compounding the ED bounty. As each pov resident moves out they are replaced by diamond edge high end professionals that bring money, refined tastes and a desire for the best things in life. James Nesbitt moves back joining fellow actors in a rush to cement its elite bohemian ideals. DMC clsoes down and is bought out by a BUPA private clinic where those with access to private health insurance enjoy on-demand 24/7 health care of the finest quality. A Harrods Express opens on the old Londis site testing the waters for a premium branded local store whcih is a resounding success. Cameron having lost the leadership election to Boris in 2013 is rumpoured to be looking at Dulwich Village which redoubles a stellar Dulwich effect. Homemade has expanded into Barrys as a thriving bistro/cafe and jazz cafe / arts cinema centre. Ritzy.ed is a resounding success as an alternative Indie cinema follwoing a groundbreaking decision to build an eco community artspace on Peckham Rye replacing the old pre-fabs and bringing to life a night time park in what was once a dark and dangerous open space. Nunhead experinces considerable postive spillover and a thriving music scene and Brixton Village foodie scene graduates into this once unregarded community. New residents of 2102 privately celebarte their good taste and foresight to bet big on the next wave.
  16. The riots of 2014 when a lot of dispossed and disenfranchised youths worn down by nearly a decade of depression and in your face displays of aquisitive wealth finally go mental. Edgy areas burn and police abandon whole swathes of inner city which become Londonderry no go areas. Dog Kennel Hill is one such area and the situation becomes so bad that Sainsburies abandon ED and the carpark gives way to new age travellers and joy riding by feral youth. Yuppies out grafiiti reappears and Iceland briefly considers taking over the Sainsbury site - but on second thoughts decides no. Waitrose opens in Peckham and closed in ED due to high levels of dispossed middle class pilfering - gotta make ends meet you know. Hugenot considers retirement and tireing of ignoble fleeting pleasures of the Far East and contemplating his mortality is attracted by falling property prices (he can afford finally to move back to ED)buys a 4 bedder in Crystal Palace road for 350k nearer to the dealers haunt of the Castle and begins a strategic and well thought out fortifcation so he can continue to live and comment in relative peace and security. ED forum is now a nationwide forum for all sorts (cf Urban 75) and carries prominent advertising for security locks and private security insurance. Boris Johnson is newly elected nationally and has his fisrt sex scandal within a month of taking office.
  17. 3 Bed house now ?400k - and an influx of students and arty types priced out of a burgeoning Peckham colonise the newly cheap properties. Graffiti artists attracted by Stik tag many of the end of walls murals and ED is firmly on the edgy tourist map. Home to Londons first legal cannabis cafe , Dulwich Festival and Aquarius festivals go viral.Pete Doherty moves to Melbourne Grove - prices continue to fall as UK catches the Eurozone chill - squatters take over derelict Dulwich baths (closed down in 2013 when swingeing council cuts close all discertionary spends) and we are off on one hell of an alternative ride. Edward Alleys school falls on hard times as previously affluent parents are forced to remove their kids as they suffer in the worst downturn since the Great Depression.
  18. Social cleansing now complete - old timers sold out 3 bed terrace now ?1 million up - rents through the roof - a few pockets of old timers remain near the Castle and renamed Vale Pub. Neighbourhhods assocations of the newly wealthy and privileged install independent counillor who represents the views of the privileged wealthy. Pressure to relocate council blocks at Dawson Heights and DKH to outside the area - council comply as rebuilt and remarketed estates highly valuable properties. Secon Waitrose opens in Barry Road and Gary Rhodes opens bsitro in the Grove. Private security patrols check on houses who buy private security insurance. Stella McCartney opens boutique etc etc .
  19. I shouldn't tip you off but google Replay Music and Spotify.
  20. And only dead politicos are being accused Morrison and Smith - no living ones - funny that.
  21. It puts a whole new slant on the saying sex and drugs and rock and roll - sexual morality it would seem is just like taxes - for the little people.Should it come as much surprise that our human civilised world is really just a sophisticated animal world with alpha males taking and getting what they want whereas we lesser mortals get what we can and build a better world of caring, sharing and helping each other. It's Stuart Hall that really shocks me I don't want to beleieve it as I grew up seeing his avauncular face on Look North along with Its a Knockout and if he falls along with some of these other names it makes you wonder who you can beleive in or trust anymore.
