Surfbob and myself are just back from Eastbourne where we have been cheering on North of Scotlnd Tennis in the Counties tourney. Bit of a late one but we stayed up in divison 1 so well worth the travel and extra training for today. Will be in Plough shortly to meet you all and take you through some gentle warm ups. As always, LASERS SET TAE MALKY..........CHARGE.......

Just back from a weeks training with the Foreign Legion in Corsica. My short of choice this year will be a closely guarded secret...will be under wraps until the off. Bit like the covers on F1 cars in the Grand Prix. As surfbob has intimated, there will be a series of warm up exercises taking place in the Plough from noon. Novices and experienced campaigners most welcome. For those non runners an enjoyable time can be had prior to le grande depart in the Plough then head down to greet the athletes at the finish line in the Clockhouse. Station Master Barry will hopefully be on hand to present this years prizes and of course Barry and Barriet the Bears. There may well be a childrens party taking place in the Plough Garden as well but Im sure a cursorsy glance around will identify the runners and riders for the BBRR 2010. If the under 12's wish to compete they will be allowed a half pint, no compromise on the short. Administration of the race will be detailed on the day. Look forward to seeing you at the start for some warm ups. Dont want any high speed plimsole blow outs down Barry Road. Another Barry day beckons. CHARGE....................

Nice to meet you all. Hope I wasnt talking into my top pocket too much. Hopefully see you at the start line on the 24th for the Barry Barry Road Race. CHARGE....................

I'd make milfwall my second team. We are milfwall, everybody loves us, we don't care.... -
Enjoyed the opening night (nice touch re comp booze and food). Think it will be busy most of the time and I am planning on taking it for a test run on saturday again. Good change of use of space, back bit very nice and better than previous by a mile (unless you like playing pool). Glad the old wooden bar intact and its been a while since i drank Murphys and pleased to say I liked it.

The Barry Bear has been tracked down. Seems he has been stretching his legs since last year..... All looking good for him to meet Barriet the Bear at the start line on the 24th July prior to being marched down to the finishing line at the Clockhouse where his wings will be clipped and he will firmly remain SE22 this year. The double holder may not make this years event so looks like there will be a new name on the trophy this year. Now there is incentive to keep up the punishing training schedule. Me, Im in tip top conditon this year and the unexpected warm weather training has increased my "stamina" imeasureably. Will be in touch nearer the time with final details for those that wish to "compete" or support. Keep up the good work. THE BEAR IS SAFE..........

The Barry Barry Road Race on 24 July welcomes all types of sports fans. In fact MP and Georgia are supporters. Come along and run or support. Its a sedate day out, eh no Georgia! The Clockhouse are aware of our arrival this year and will be taking custody of the bears.

Made p43 of today's sun, although not quite how it happened -
The Barry Barry road race on 24 July is good day out. Can't gaurantee romance but athletes a plenty!

Barry Bear status update.....having employed a dog, not unlike the one that found the world cup all those years ago, I am closing down on The Barry Bear. Looking good to be in possesion on July 24th to parade at the Plough prior to its departure to the Clockhouse for this years presentation, along with the Ladies Bear. Hoping Station Master Barry will be available to present again this year. Like to keep the event true to its inception, keep it pure Barry, ken whit ehs mean! Agree with Michael P, this year we should keep possesion of the Bear(s), and if the clockhouse could keep em even better. Make a nice display for them, oh and the History, those Bears have some history. An old trophy of mine is still behind the bar at the Harbour Bar, Downings, Donegal from several years ago so the system does work (The Downing in downings challenge 2004). Keep up the training, pays off on the day. CHARGE...................

Training for the Barry Barry Road Race perhaps ! -
Well there you have it. Surfboab has called the date. Ample time to get in shape for the 2010 run. Now all we need is The Bear to parade at the start line, and acquaint with the new ladies trophy. The Barry Bear was last seen at clockhouse June 2009. See you at the start line for some pre race "limbering" up on the 24th July. CHARGE.......................

M P. Gratefully accept Barriet for the ladies 2010 champion. Surfbobby will announce the date. Likely to be later than last year due to other commitments. There will be plenty of notice, so dinnae fesh yersels. Good to see interest in the 3rd running of the BBRR. Everybody welcome be it in an "athletic" capacity or to support, watch and imbibe. Cheers

Voice over man: At last, 15 minutes late, Mitra gets her knocky(sp) out!

All welcome, indeed we had a crack team of "athletes" from Australia last year and the winners of the ladies race, the pink ladies are originally from the frozen North. now domiciled clapham way. Fancy dress is not compulsory, indeed i dont think it was last year. Wear whatever you feel like that will aid the consumption of the liquid and help you fleet of foot doon the road. Dates coming soon(ish) but will be plenty of notice. Surfbob will be competing in the African Ale Challange in June so will be before that. We need to consult our weather experts to call the date as we like to have the weather set fair for a good and proper warm down at the finishing post. Although they let us down with their predciton for a summer of Bar-b-Ques so it could well be coming down like a cow pi**ing on a flat stone on the day. We wont let that deter us eh no. Keep up the good work. Will be working on my endurance stats this saturday in and around ED.

Sports fans A barry amount of interest for this years event. Working up some dates for the BBRR 2010, plenty of time for training.... Will be back in touch at a later date with plenty of notice as to when this years run will take place and to offer some tips to help you get in shape if you are new to the event. Station Master Barry - consider yourself offically invited to once again present the prestigous Barry Bear (we need to track it down again!) to this years champion athlete, and thanks for the prizes. Very generous. The winter gloom is lifting, and I am going to shortly start my trining programme, ramped up from last years gruelling schedule as I hope to smash my PB of 38 mins. Am looking for at least 35 mins this year....The next few weeks will see a heavy amount of training taking place, building up some good basic "fitness" moving toward some "speed work" as the day nears and culminating in bulking up on bar snacks the week before Ready, Steady Barry announces the start of this years event. Will keep you updated on plans for the day............Surfbobby traditionally calls the date. Till then... Lasers set tae malky!

Photos here Meet at the Plough from 12 o'clock onwards for "warm ups". Race starts at 2pm, goes down Barry Road and ends at the Clockhouse shortly after. Please read the whole thread for full details. Clocks soon to go back. Training to commence for the 2010 chapter of (and 3rd running)of the Barry Barry Road Race........finer details to follow in the coming months. Plenty of time to get in shape.....

Murray looking good. tip him to lift this slam. Would be great for scottish tennis, and our womans numer 1, Elana Baltacha she's doing not to badly either.
-
" He's running like a piece of agricultural machinery " Definitely missed. Made the 5/6 Nations commentary RIP
-
EDT looks quite good. 7pm - 2am. Vegas type theme over 2 floors. No hassles getting dressed up or anything like that (Rye was good last year, missed the stripping barmaid however). ?15 a ticket so fairly reasonable

Well, a new day breaks and a few sore limbs for sure.... thanks to all for joining in and helping to make it a great day. Thanks to Station Master Barry for presenting prizes and offering the ladies winners a super prize. Also thanks to SMG, annaj, nic etc for helping out with the adim side of things on the other end. Cheers. 50 mins for me this year. Got my sights set on 49 for next year...... For sure, a Barry day oot!

Look forward to seeing you all tommorrow. Just finished some pre race prep in Bar Story and feel in tip top condition. Have induldged in some milk based drinks to strenghthen the bones. For the non "athletes" amongst us, dont worry, there will be competitors of different abilities so no one need feel embarassed during the race, after, then thats your lookout. I myself took just under the hour last year and aim to smash this by a good 2 or 3 mins this year. Families welcome and there is an under 12's race, they are allowed to drink a half pint and a shot. Looks like the weather is set fair. The Barry Barry Road Race 09 - its on!
-
Final training runs completed, bulking up on bar snacks now. Can debate the shot in pint approach during the pre race warm ups. Nice to see the council have been out and trimmed back the trees on the route for the Run. Last years champion runner will be back to defend the Barry Bear, wonder if station master Barry is about saturday so Barry can present the Barry Bear to the Barry Barry Run champion athlete for 2009. Now, that would be Barry. Good luck and all the best in sport. Its been a punishing schedule but I'm confident to beat my PB of last year. Throughout my build up the words of my mentor kept popping into my head: "life is like an ashtray, full of little doubts" Lasers set tae malky!..........

Surf Bob Been putting the miles in and pounding the roads. Slight peevers elbow was encountered on last saturday training run but will defo be in plough fir noon to undertake some warm up drills. Plan on keeping my poweder dry for the first half mile then finish with a flourish. Another Barry day beckons. Cheers and CHARGE......................

Seanmlow: Indeed last year was a good event and hope to see you on this years run. A hurdle was considered at the Barry Off Licence this year - bit like in the steeplechase but the hurdle would have been some form of short and a barsnack! Instead of water sponges, beer sponges are required for the event although once running commences and the thought of another pint and a short at the clockhouse becomes a reality the last thing I needed last year was another "iso" tonic drink on the run!
