  1. So all our mail turned up at once a week after last receiving post. My good lady bumped into the postman, who was weighed down with a massive bag. He said he'd been on holiday and no one had covered his shift.
  2. We've not had any post since Tuesday. And as our son had his birthday on Friday we know that letters have definitely been posted. We live on Honor Oak Rise at the top of Forest Hill Road. Rang Royal Mail on Saturday to report it and waiting to hear back.
  3. Have to disagree big time about Omrith. The worst Indian meal you have ever had? Week in week, week out, it has maintained a high standard for us for a few years now. Think they may have had a change of ownership a few months back, but honestly don't feel it has affected the quality at all. Each to his/her own and all that, but we love it.
  4. Concur. They've been consistently good for several years now and haven't really had a dip in quality. Nice people, too.
  5. Seconded. Got in touch with Niko this morning with a running cistern and he was round within the hour. Sorted the problem soon after at reasonable cost (actually still to pay him!) and with sound advice. I wasn't there but my other half says he was a top fella. Cheers Niko. Phil
  6. We also found Patryk on here. He came round to price up a small garden makeover job back in November and said he'd send email some quotes. Haven't heard from him at all. Maybe the job was too small (the recommendations on here seem to be for quite major jobs), but an email would have been nice, especially as he actually came to our place to price up.
  7. Ditto. Replaced our windows and front door earlier this year. Friendly, efficient and good value.
  8. Scenic did our back door and kitchen window, then recently did the rest of the windows in the flat. Great job, very efficient and competitively priced. A pleasure to deal with and highly recommended.
  9. They did the same for Lewisham food bank at Sainsburys in Forest Hill. Great idea. Should be a permanent idea. Food banks are being overwhelmed by families in need of basics, so this is more important than ever.
  10. Been with 3 for about six or seven years and pretty faultless in my experience. I agree with Shell... no reason I can see for the (previously) poor image. I think people were just a bit sniffy about the cheaper new kid on the block. Think 3 used to be a bit behind the others in terms of getting the latest phones but not any more.
  11. Had the same problem with Tiscali/Talk Talk for months... broadband would be fine for an hour, then drop off for an hour, fine for a day, drop off for a day. Went on for too long. I rang a couple of weeks back and said I was totally naffed off with the service. They said they'd get an engineer to check the line and get back to me. Haven't heard a thing from anyone, but since then, the line's not dropped off once, and what was regularly a 250kb or less download speed is now regularly at about 6mb. Bingo! I think they can boost the juice to the broadband if you complain enough.
  12. Maurice gets our vote. Everything you'd want from a plumber.
  13. Jeremy Bowen, on a Saturday about a month ago in the cheese aisle.
  14. > Seconded. It's our weekly take-away of choice. But it's not in Peckham, it's opposite the Clock House at the bottom of Barry Road. Babur take-away is also great, especially the meat thali, which is a bit of a bargain for all the tasty chicken ticka, tandoori lamb, and even a prawn dish you get for the ?12. And Omrith makes similarly delicious food.
  15. They seemed to be able to when the double-deckers were on diversion a few weeks back. Saw a couple go up and down the hill without too many problems.
  16. Morrisons in Peckham. Best supermarket for quality and choice of bread by a long way.
  17. After the trees on Lordship Lane getting gradually more expensive each year, we did the same and last weekend popped into Homebase to find a lovely 6ft Norway Spruce for ?9.98. True, the needles drop a bit and we had to find a stand (from an old xmas tree at the bottom of the garden...) but with the lights now on it and a few baubles strategically placed, tis truly a handsome beast.
  18. Just out of interest, are you the same DazedandConfused who posts on the Big Chill forum?
  19. Top suggestion. In fact, the best suggestion. They screened this onto the outside of the South Bank two or three years back and it was wicked. That was free, ?7.50 is OTT, a fiver would be acceptable. Px
  20. Bottom line is that the caf? on the Rye really is top notch, one of the best things to have happened to the area in recent times. (Especially when compared to the Dulwich cafe and the snooty attitude found in there sometimes.) Yeah, we've got kids but we've only found calm in there from the staff even when it's full to the brim. The staff are all* brilliant, the food's tasty and decently priced and the view's great. * The one exception is "the most hysterically funny furious German server" who is so grumpy it's funny. (Is he definitely German? Thought he could be Italian maybe"? The guy can't be older than his late 20s yet he huffs and tuts like a crotchety old aunt. Thing is, he stands out a mile when compared with the others.
  21. Nice one, Tommy. Keep meaning to go and see some proper local football at DH. Next season, I'll be there.
