Many of us struggle in this area. Mindfulness teaches us to fully appreciate the constantly changing feelings around hunger, eating, and digestion. Mindful eating means selecting, preparing and eating food with awareness and attention resting in the present moment. On this retreat you will learn how to engage all your senses in the act of eating, so that eating can become both satisfying to you and nourishing for your body. This six-week course run by experienced yoga teacher Mark Westmoquette will introduce you to the basic principles of zen yoga practice and help you establish and develop this through simple practices you can do at home. There will be a particular emphasis on cultivating your "guts" (in Japanese hara, or belly), and you'll learn why it's important to centre your awareness in your hara and how that leads to a sense of grounding.   7. This coming weekend we'll be hosting an exhibition of Zen calligraphy and artworks by Japanese Zen master Shinzan Miyamae at the ZenYoga studio in Camberwell. Shinzan will be turning 80 this week! We will be showing around 30 of his exquisite works and the exhibition will be open to the public all day Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th, and part of Sunday 5th. Calligraphy and drawing are used equally to transmit the master?s enlightened mind state. The words of the calligraphy and the way they are brushed are inspiring or intriguing even to one who is not interested in Zen as a philosophy or religion. In modern times, bokuseki have been recognised as one of the glories of world culture.

  17. Zen Yoga, Zen Mind The Buddha taught of the four foundations of mindfulness: mindfulness of the body, of sensations, of the mind, and of thoughts. In this this workshop led by Mark Westmoquette, we'll explore these four aspects in both movement and stillness. In the first half we will look at a flow yoga sequence designed to wake up your body, flex your spine and bring an awareness to your breath, moving towards a state of mindfulness within the movement. This zen yoga practice will naturally lead to an open, curiousness about the breath and its relationship to our mind and body. We'll then have a look at a breath-centred mindfulness meditation practice from the Zen tradition to explore this breath-mind-body connection further, and how this can lead to a deeper awareness of the present moment. This workshop is suitable for both those new to yoga or meditation and those who have a regular practice.
