Camberwell Grove bridge closed for at least 6 months
jimlad48 replied to gm99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
as a toast rack resident, I can confirm that traffic is absolutely awful right now with this closure. Fingers crossed thpugh that this helps spur residents on to vote for a CPZ. As the consultation closes next week, I hope thos happens, as it will help quieten down the wider roads anyway without the heavy traffic looking for spaces and to get past the . -
We got the same letter, and had previously been paying ?47 per month, and had just negotiated a reduction to ?38 per month. The moment I got through to cancellations and explained that either they drop the price increase or we walk, our bill was further reduced to ?33 per month. Ring them up and be firm that you will walk unless the price drops.

Moving to Talfourd Road from East Dulwich - is it safe?

(And on the > parking front, plenty of residents who think it's > just fine and very resistant to parking > controls.....but that's a whole other debate) I think the forthcoming parking consultation will be interesting. At least 6 roads have shown they are strongly in favour of a CPZ and are likely to vote YES, and the council has indicated that if some roads vote Yes and others No, then their wishes will be respected and a partial implementation may occur (e.g. Shenley - Bushey get a CPZ, Talfourd wouldnt). Given how bad the parking is at the moment, if Talfourd and Denman vote no, then I feel very sorry for the residents for the hell that will be unleashed on them by a combination of train travellers, bus commuters, NHS workers and all manner of other people scrabbling for the last free parking. As we found the hard way last time, voting no for a CPZ when other areas vote yes means things get a lot worse very quickly. A lot of the people who led the no campaign last time are now prominently pushing for a CPZ in the new consultation. -
Moving to Talfourd Road from East Dulwich - is it safe?

Terribly nice houses at one end, but the parkings a total nightmare. Thankfully parking permit consultation will begin soon - hooray! The 'toast rack' of streets (Shenley, Crofton, Bushey, Talfourd) are great places to live, and the estate really isnt an issue at all. Frankly its hard in S London not to live near some form of council housing. Plenty of local coffee shops and cafes, and the little Sainsburies that has opened up has a superb range of daily goods. I've lived in this little area for years and love it - come join the party! -
Denmark Hill station: Beyond a joke
jimlad48 replied to LouiseC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Fully share concerns on Denmark Hill station. Problems seems to be twofold - access in, which is now causing queues to build up outside the station, coupled with the sharp dogleg left then right turn which blocks people and channels them, particularly if people decide to stand on the passageway or stairs. The station is a deathtrap waiting to happen - if there is a fire or incident in those passages, it will be a miracle if anyone gets out. I didnt think it could be worse than the old situation where you essentially had one door to walk in / out of, but it is under the new system. I know during the renovation they managed to put a side gate in temporarily for access which made an enormous difference - adding a gate directly onto the new footbridge would make an enormous difference to the station by providing an alternate exit. -
Parking around East Dulwich station
jimlad48 replied to Fitzgeraldo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The problem we are finding is that as the demographics shift in the area, and many young families and elderly people are in during the day, taking the car out becomes a major problem. I've lost count of the number of local residents with young families who find it incredibly difficult to run their lives because they cannot park in our local area now - I've met multiple people who have had, quite literally, a multi-hour wait for a single space across 4 roads (the only area that they can park due to CPZ expansion) and are trapped in their cars. There are mobility restricted people who do not qualify for a blue badge, but unable to walk any real distance unable to get out because they know they cannot get back in when they return. There are people we've met who need carers to visit them for essential care who cannot park because there is no space. Trust me, when your road becomes a dumping ground for people not prepared to pay CPZ fees elsewhere, when you get contractors and companies refusing to work on your property because of where you live, when you get missed deliveries and near physical abuse from people who want your space, and your daily routine is stalked by a stranger who knows when you leave the house so they can have your space, then, then you will want a CPZ - its hell on earth now in Shenley Road for anyone who lives here and has to put up with the parking problems we've got. -
Parking around East Dulwich station

To back up Drolers point, as a resident on Shenley, the parking has got much much worse since other CPZs were introduced, and the motorists flocked to our roads instrad. Add to this the crazy level of building (such as builders parking on our street and taking the bus to their sites at Elephant & Castle!) and you've reached a situation where there is almost no parking 7 days per week. A few years ago there was a resounding rejection of a CPZ - this time round the support for a CPZ is incredible - we have had hundreds of local residents across 6 affected roads sign a petition asking for the consultation, and a CPZ cant come soon enough. Also worth noting that you don't need to buy books of day parking permits now - it can be done online on the day. Frankly, in our area saying free parking makes it easier for visitors ignores the reality that there are no spaces on the street all day - the horror stories we've heard of just how bad it is now make this abundantly clear. Fingers crossed we get a CPZ ASAP! -
From my perspective, any CPZ of any form would be ideal. The sheer level of stress and anxiety caused by worrying about where cars can park on the 'toastrack' at the moment is getting ridiculous. A cursory look at the SE5 parking facebook or twitter page shows how bad the problem is across all 6 roads. Similarly talking to dozens of local residents, many of whom did not want a CPZ before, its clear that attitudes have shifted as the squeeze on parking in Southwark continues. Southwark allows you to do online temporary visitor parking permits, so if you need someone in a bay, you can sort in online for them for rather than having to go to a parking shop. Its quick, easy and straightforward and frankly far less hassle than worrying about where to park. The current situation is leaving local residents unable to park anywhere within a half mile radius of their house most of the time if they have to use their cars. This is a short walk for some, but there are a lot of mobility restricted residents who if they have to go out, are recounting how they are quite literally trapped in their cars until a space becomes available near their door. This problem will only get worse as other areas (e.g. Denmark Hill and North Dulwich) vote to have a CPZ implemented, and the pressure for a finite number of spaces gets worse. It is telling that several hundred residents have now signed a petition asking the council to reopen CPZ consultation - hopefully the council will listen and act accordingly.

I fully agree with what you are saying, but as a resident of the streets in question, knowing that there is nowhere else locally that isn't in a CPZ, I'm happy to see the cars move elsewhere. Until you've lived with the nightmare that is a small area without any reasonable chance of hoping to park your car within half a mile of your house during the working day, particularly if you have children, buggies, shopping or a wheelchair, or waiting for cancelled repairs / deliveries because the driver can't park etc then you don't know what an utter misery it is. The ideal solution is to scrap all CPZ across London, but that will never happen. In the meantime, I'd like to stop commuter using my street to park because they are too lazy to take public transport like the rest of us. The ideal solution is a 12-2 zone, which means people can use the road, but it stops it being a dormitory road for commuters who turn up at 7am and go at 6pm, regular as clockwork.

A CPZ would make a massive difference to local residents who are completely fed up with the situation. This area is pretty much the last set of streets without a CPZ in the area, which means traffic previously dispersed over many different roads, now only has a tiny number to go in to. Either make the whole area a CPZ, or get rid of CPZ across the board - at present the problem is appalling, and making local residents lives a misery.
-
God knows - we're finding on shenley that there are some slips that have blocked 2-3 spaces gor over a year npw but nothing seems to be done. You could always wrote opposing a cpz for Denman, but please let us have one in Sheey - its so nad now that if i go put in the day, i cannot secure a space anywhere in a 400m long road!
-
Sorry to bump this up, but it sounds like the council are claiming to have not received any representations on this issue, despite many people contacting them. May I strongly suggest to anyone who wants to see a CPZ in Shenley (or beyond) to email Southwark Council and make a public representation. It do not with numbers that we can hope to secure parking spaces for ourselves and not the commuters / builders / skips that plague Shenley Road at the moment
-
The issue in our area (Crofton, Shenley and other roads) is that we're now suffering exactly what Kalamity has described. Because we're the last non CPZ set of streets in the local area, all the non residential traffic is being parked on these roads, massively increasing pressure. Its not been helped by the councils placing double yellows on all the intersection roads between these streets which has reduced parking by about 50 places either (a cynic would suggest this was intentional to force demand for a CPZ). As such the road is overrun by people parking to catch a bus - there are no other real reasons to be there as both Camberwell and Peckham have local parking. Its essentially become a commuter parking street - you can watch people every morning park their cars and walk to the local bus stops or station and do the same in the evening. When you add this to the huge level of cars abandoned on the street for weeks by non residents (we had two enormous 4x4s dumped by non local builders for 3 weeks while they were on summer holidays dumped directly outside), and you realise that its an issue. The problem isn't a 'right' to park, its the fact that because of the Southwark councils actions elsewhere, it is making it impossible for residents to park their cars within a 3-400m radius of their house during the day because there is no other parking available to go to, and because it is getting non residents using it as a rat run. This may sound academic, but all these streets have a combination of a lot of young families, and a fair numbetr of more elderly residents and its really difficult for them to be able to go out in the day without not knowing where they can leave car on their return, with all the issues this has. I strongly think adding a CPZ which is in force from 12-2pm would solve this problem immediately - it stops the daytime commuters from parking, and it still frees it up for people to nip in and visit when they need to without getting a ticket. Its not like there is anywhere else for the traffic to go - we're the last non CPZ parking streets in the area. Its not about being able to park outside your house, its about being able to park somewhere on a street that is 400m long!

I think you are misreading or misinterpreting what i've said. I am 100% emphatically in davour of a cpz, i think it would be a major boost and also having had very positive experiences in lewisham i an happy to see it in shenley where situaion without one is utterly intolerable. Hope that is clear enough for you?
-
Surely the problem for those of us on these three streets is that we cannot park now, and to implement a cpz would make a massive difference. My own experience of lewisham is that if sensibly sized, a cpz makes a very major difference to quality of life. Right now the situation in shenley is at breaking point and getting worse. A cpz is the only solution.

We live on Shenley and were hugely in favour of the CPZ - It is getting insane now, there is no parking during the day, and when we're getting deliveries or works done, it is impossible to get any parking space for workmen due to the number of cars on the road. As a resident, it is so depressing to know that you cannot park on your own street - its definitely gotten worse in the last year or so. What hugely frustrates me is seeing people turn up every morning, parking then walking to the bus stop and treating the road as effectively a car park for their commute, and denying residents a chance to park just so they have less distance to go on the bus. Its getting really bad when we're seeing multiple residents now 'pegging out' their spots with bins, and I'm seeing a lot of people argue about it. Shen;ley Road desperately needs to be in a CPZ - is there anyway we can write to the council to get them to reconsider this problem? All it needs is a simple one which applies from 1200-1400 like some of the zones near Denmark Hill station have - just enough to ensure that the day commuters cant park and deny residents parking, but still allow workmen or visitors to park easily for a short visit. On a vaguely related note, part of the problem also stems from lots of builders using the road to dump skips and vans on the road. The worst offender is the monstrosity of a construction project at the end of the road by the shops which has been going on for months with no tangible progress and which doesnt seem to have planning permission!

Thanks Cabsav - have filed my complaint with noise team. Is there any way the specific address can be made available, as I'm almost tempted to call 112 next time and get the police involved as its clearly a major noise pollution issue. I dont mind people having fun in the summer, I do mind when my house thats over a kilometer away from the party is filled with the sounds of their party. Surely this state of affairs has reached the point where the owner needs to have a friendly visit from the Police to tell him that he has got to stop getting a DJ in?
-
Thanks very much - I don't mind the odd party in summer, but this is getting to be a weekly intrusion which is really out of order. It started at about 2pm and has been non stop since then. Sadly no response to council noise helpline, but may ring tomorrow and see if there is any way it can be dealt with -it is incredibly disrespectful.
-
Is it the one which has got a very loud DJ, lots of very loud music since about 2pm today and sounds more like a professional party than a house party? If so then definitely the same - sounds like it is coming from that way. How selfish can some people be - I'm guessing literally thousands of people have had to put up with their music all day.

Hello everyone, first time posting here. In recent weeks on sunday nights our afternoons and evenings have been ruined by an exceptionally loud drum/bass / jungle type music festival - clearly not a house party as far too loud and it seems to involve DJs. It goes on for hours, seemingly in direction of Bellenden Road, and is a major noise nuisance for anyone not attending. Is anyone aware of what the festival/event is, and when it will stop, and more importantly if it is possible to complain about the obscene level of noise that this is generating. It is reaching the stage where our house is literally thumping to the hideous noise, which is ruining our peace and quiet at home. Please, is there anyway to turn this utter monstrosity down?
