  1. Having tried various places in the local area in the last couple of years for my daughter and left feeling completely ripped off,we've finally found a hairdresser that we both really like. We went yesterday and Mandy is brilliant. She is very patient with kids, did an excellent cut and kept my daughter entertained and most importantly helped to keep her relaxed and still. The appointment lasted just over half an hour as she doesn't like to rush the kids.Forget screens with Peppa Pig when you can have a good old colouring book.?8 is excellent value for money for the service she provides. If you search for Shearclass in Nunhead it might show the key cutter/shoe repair but that's her son's shop down the road.Mandy is towards the Telegraph Hill end.
  2. Would love to Baggs,my mum is an incredible cook and I have been cheeky and tried to persuade her to cook professionally. Her curry puffs are little mouthfuls of heaven! For now I will leave it to all the brave people starting up new local food places.I look forward to trying out Rosie's, and I want to try out Miss Tapas too.We popped to Yada's last month and had a delicious huge wrap with salads and a veggie dumpling thing (sorry can't remember the name). I'm going to organise a food crawl of Peckham for friends soon.Yum.
  3. From what I can gather there might end up being 3 pizza places near Queens Road.Blackbirds do pizza nights Thursday-Saturday,then the new Pedler and also So Dough/Do?!Can we have a curry place instead please or a decent Malaysian perhaps?Nice to have a variety.
  4. Hi Can anyone please confirm if the Dish and Spoon is open over the summer holidays please?Sure last time I went in they said they might shut for a bit.I've tried calling couple of numbers from the internet but seem to be incorrect. Many thanks Mel
  5. Love Aya.She's also selling ice cream from Oddono's now, handy if you don't want to head up Lordship Lane.
  6. Hi, Do any families have advice on great places to visit in Berlin in August please.Have booked a week there with our 3.5yo and looking for ideas.Want to stay in the Prenzlauzer Berg area as recommended by a friend who lives there ,and want to visit parks, lakes, cycle,go to some museums and family-friendly cafes. Many thanks Mel
  7. There's always the new huge Iceland warehouse on the Old Kent Road where the Mothercare was. They sell frozen snails and crocodile alongside classics like Findus crispy pancakes...
  8. Hi Anna, I specialise in Roman blinds if you are interested and am based quite locally.I've done a number of jobs for EDF members. Please look at my Facebook page (That's Well Lush) and I am more than happy to answer any questions. https://m.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.261779510636112.1073741830.261770107303719&type=3 Many thanks Mel
  9. I studied Textile design at uni, specifically weaving. You could try contacting Cockpit Studios in Holborn and Deptford. They are having their summer open studios this weekend and the following one.Or if you are interested try contacting my brother in laws branding company called Multiadaptor as they take on interns quite regularly. They've also started a campaign called 'Pay Nicely' which promotes treating interns fairly, something I truly believe in as not everyone can afford to live in pricey old London for zero wages!Good luck with your search. Mel
  10. Theatre Peckham is great. They run classes on Saturdays in the Harris Academy in Peckham. http://www.theatrepeckham.co.uk/
  11. I think she is shut on a Monday unfortunately and so is the Vietnamese place in the Bussey building.I like to start with a Summer prawn roll and stroll up the road for a pancake and cuppa.
  12. Our new favourite is a tiny place called Aya hidden at the end of a small arcade of shop near Khans bargains on Rye Lane. The best pancakes I've ever eaten, the lovely lady makes homemade blueberry syrup that she smothers on pancake with cream.Yum.Also does range of teas and ice cream supplied by the place on Lordship Lane, amongst order things.Happy to support such a friendly lady in her new venture.
  13. Sounds good for me.Might bring a couple of other local friends who've started sewing quite recently too if that's ok?
  14. Hi, Sorry for slow reply.I'm free next Monday if you fancy meeting up? Mel
  15. Hi, I would be very interested in a crafters evening get together.I work from home and sew for a living but it's a hobby too as I enjoy it so much.I would love to meet others who have a passion sewing and who I can learn tips from!I've done a craft evening with friends making simple tote bags so I would like to do more of that kind of thing, perhaps some quilting too? Are you thinking evening meet ups? Mel
  16. I've always enjoyed New World for Sunday dim sum.Gets busy but you can queue up get a ticket and I've never had to wait longer than ten minutes. They have the old stainless steel carts they wheel to your table so once you are sat down you can get food within a few minutes.Haven't been post children (due to our daughter's sesame allergy!) but always used to see families eating together so definitely family friendly.
  17. I would get there by 8,if not earlier if you can as there was already a queue when we arrived at 8.20am and we were number 5 in the queue. They register you and give you a number, they actually start seeing people at 9.The doctors are great there.Hope all is ok for you.
  18. Hi M, Do you mean the one at 12 Queens Road or Queens Road Partnership closer to New Cross? I ask as we moved whilst I was pregnant and had to leave my lovely Nunhead surgery and find a new one in Peckham. I did go to one health visitor appointment at 12 Queens Road but wasn't very impressed to be honest.I spoke to my GP at the Queens Road Partnership and I continued the rest of the health visitor appointments there. I have found Queens Road Partnership an excellent surgery. We have had quite a few urgent medical issues with my daughter and have always managed to see someone very quickly. Even with our own doctor appointments we have managed to get booked in relatively quickly. Hope this helps. Please feel free to PM if you have any other questions. Mel
  19. I bought a lovely pop up one from Rye Books the other day.
  20. Hi This project sounds very interested. I am on a committee for a local residents association based near Queens Road Peckham and I think a lot of locals here would be interested in hearing about the proposals and hopefully giving our support. We have our next monthly meeting on Wednesday 10th December and I can PM you the details of the chairman and deputy chairman if you like. (there was a feature on the front page of the Peckham Peculiar a few months ago about our residents association). Many Thanks Mel
  21. Scope in Peckham have a man who picks up locally on Tuesdays I think.Have donated to them a couple of times.Just give the shop a call and they can give you his phone number.
  22. Just had an amazing facial and manicure by Sem.Definitely recommend. She also threaded my eyebrows and was totally painless.Very very relaxing experience.
  23. We really enjoyed the park in the summer.Massive open areas to run around and the fountains were fun too.We hired 2 bikes and a trailer for our toddler and had a great afternoon out riding around the park.Cannot remember the name of the bike hire company I'm afraid but they are based in green converted containers past the Orbital. They seem a little bit disorganised but we did get the only trailer they had in the end and was ?15 in total. They had a cafe inside that smelt delicious.Agree with other the Timber cafe was underwhelming.
