Returning to the original post, just had a close call with a MOTORCYCLE, him turning from Adys into Oglander on the narrow footpath. If I had been a few seconds earlier, not sure what would have happened.

It?s actually 9.00 am. Free all day after that.

Wasps all over the fennel just now. Evidently fennel is a wasp magnet, which rather puts me off it. Lots of bees too, on the lavender.

Yes, there do seem to be more of these about this year. It usually means there is something decaying in the garden somewhere, not always obvious, often fox or cat poo. But just today I saw a dead slug in the birdbath, covered in flies....ugh.

This is the method we have used which has reduced the numbers a lot. It does take a couple of years to have any effect. I also put all wools items of clothing away in sealed bags in the summer, which reduces the moths food options when they are most active. Good luck!

I think we had these last year. Very annoying, clustered round the lights when they were on. They were around for about a week and then mysteriously disappeared. We also looked them up and thought they must be cluster flies. Definitely not fruit flies (which we also occasionally get if an apple is left out too long) -these were bigger and flew faster than fruit flies. Good luck!

What will Lordship Lane look like post-Covid?
LJC56 replied to Rockets's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think Pearspring are also a garden design company so have another string to their bow so to speak. Shame about the shop though, if it doesn?t reopen. I feel optimistic about the future of Lordship Lane and other shopping streets in the area like Bellenden Road, as so many shops have adapted brilliantly to the crisis. The key thing will be for all of us to go on shopping there when we have other options. Personally, having not had a supermarket delivery in months, I don?t miss it as I find I can get everything I need nearby. -
Ganapati closed for delivery for a few weeks but is now back, hooray. Thursday to Sunday only.

But I too would be > interested to hear how much cooking is involved. So, what was delivered was a fully prepared meal ready to slip into the oven, and 40 minutes later, voila! Someone else therefore, had prepared the chicken, and the veg, added herbs and seasoning, made focaccia and also made a chocolate mousse. It is probably a moot point if what we had to do was ?cooking? but it wasn?t reheating so that is why I said cooking. Hope that helps. And just to say, as well as all the prep having been done, the most wonderful thing was eating something where I didn?t know how it was going to taste before sitting down to eat it, something I hadn?t done for any meal, for five weeks! However good a cook you are, if you taste as you go, for seasoning etc, you are always going to know what it will taste like. And bonus, we supported our favourite restaurant and can?t wait to be back there.

We had a celebration meal from Artusi and it was excellent. Easy to cook and large portions, plenty for the next day.

Thank you IlonaM, this looks great. And some compensation for the fact that Sunday in the Park with George this summer likely to be cancelled. I was going to have a day off watching having watched the excellent Met Opera Gala yesterday but this looks too good.

Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Saw what we think was a dunnock in the garden this > morning. > > Is that likely round here? I?ve been seeing a small brown bird, not unlike a sparrow, but with a much narrower beak, in the garden in the last few days. I did wonder if it is a dunnock, so would be interested too, to know if that is likely.

Food bank or donation drop in ED or Dulwich?

Southwark Food bank have a drop off box in the Coop Lordship Lane. -
Where to get Southwark gardening bags during lockdown?
LJC56 replied to viridescent's topic in The Lounge
You have to get them from the Council itself I think. Since they brought in the brown bin charge they also charge for the bags, and take them away (collection not charged). It's all pretty reasonable (IMO) although not as convenient as collection from the library (when open!). -
Having just been out on the bike shopping, just saying, do take care. The empty roads seem to have encouraged some drivers to assume that speed limits no longer apply. Lordship Lane from Townley Road especially.

Moved here 20 years ago, wouldn't live anywhere else. In spite of the ongoing concerns about small shops being forced out, the fact is we have all those shops that villages and towns wish they still had: butchers, bakeries, a fishmonger, as well as supermarkets and a wide variety of restaurants. What cliches the area for me is the large anmount of green space and parks, only 13 minutes from central London.

Brick House Bread announced they aren't reopening
LJC56 replied to Azalea's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This is very sad news, especially for those of us who use Peckham Rye station and liked to fill the space between just missing an overground train and the next one with an excellent coffee. The fact that Brick House were not able to the renew the contract on the Peckham Rye space is a concern. As/when/if the area around the station and the station are rebuilt, there is the worry that all the small, independent businesses, many of whom were the pioneers in improving the amenities, would be forced out. I hope this isn't what is happening here. -
Support our own East Dulwich tree sellers
LJC56 replied to christine56's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Cade Nurseries on Saturday in Northcross Road have pot grown trees of all sizes. And deserve our support since they are there all year round and since we lost both garden centres, are the only local source of plants for the garden. -
What kind of shop/eaterie would you like to see on LL?

I?d love to know what sort of bakery goods aren?t covered by those 4. -

As Nature Intended was eye wateringly expensive; Gather is very reasonable, and with a good wide range, and you can buy as little or as much as you need. Lovely staff too.

Artusi in Bellenden Road. It's my favourite anyway, but also, it often has groups of 6-8 looking as though they are having a good time!

I have found the phone helpline useful for finding slots. Last time, having found no bookable slots available, once the call centre person checked my blood group (O+) she asked me if I would go to the walk in centre in the West end. Got there at 8.30, seen within 15 minutes, at work by 10.15. It?s only three times a year, so that?s what I will do in future.

The 176 bus (has the service got extremely bad?)
LJC56 replied to bloodoranges's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh, good grief, yes. The standard thing is a wait to regulate the service around Elephant then a driver change just before Camberwell green. Both with all the doors open so that waiting passengers on the bus get nice and cold. I am not sure if anything can be done but it's really annoying. Happens pretty much every day. -
The owner has been running a shop in Harrogate as well as here and has decided to move there completely. Bias will be greatly missed. However I gather a similar shop will be opening in the space.
