  1. There was an amazing subsidised creche at my old work, that has since shut down due to lack of babies. I have the email addresses of the people that worked there but they are all north London based.
  2. Go to the library every week. Let him choose any books he likes to share together including information books. Get a selection of the very easy readers too and read them to him. Discuss some of the sounds. Can you spot the 'o's? Where is the first sound of your name? Occasionally sound out easy three letter words. Always read for pleasure/story/information. Track the words with your fingers as you read. Don't worry too much about actually learning to read because it takes ages and shouldn't be pressurised. Get flash cards on with simple words and play games with them, not necessarily to do with reading eg. Usborne Phonics Flashcards- make up stories with the pictures or play memory games. So my advice is - to have sounds and words and books all around but make it fun and interesting and wait for your son to lead you with his enthusiasm and don't worry if progress seems slow as it will suddenly all come together but that may not be for a year or two. If you are at home with him I suggest he reads at least twice a day, I find after lunch is a good time. But Regular regular visits to the library, I think work wonders. Enjoy!
  3. Little fingers on Barry Rd is still relatively new and probably has spaces.
  4. Either three hours in the morning or the afternoon. Think 8.40-11.40 or 12.20 -3.20. Actually I can't remember the exact times but that is roughly it. X
  5. I am personally pleased with a change to 3 hrs a day as the old set up seemed too short with only 2.5hrs and the full day disproportionately long. Also making packed lunch is a pain. However, I know what a nightmare logistics and working can be so from that point of view it is short notice.
  6. We wake our 5 and a half year old every night around 9.30/10 and take him to the loo otherwise he wets the bed and he wakes again around 6.45 to go again. He simply is not able to hold on or wake himself up. My 3 year old will happily wait 12/13 hrs no probs!
  7. My two children loved it there and speak very fondly of their time at little fingers. My daughter is now at a state nursery and does miss it. They did yoga and French and the food seemed to be very good. In my experience there were actually better than they came across as they didn't sell the nursery very well. They did not communicate with me that much unless I instigated it. I paid ?570 per month for mornings, 8 till 1 including two meals. I don't need a nursery during the school holidays and they run all year. There is another thread on here about it and their other branch in Dulwich.
  8. Thanks Tia. Will do. And thank you for the private messages too. I have passed all of the info on. If there are any other au pairs interested please let me know. Thanks x
  9. Hello, Our new Au Pair, Laura, who is Spanish and 22 is looking for local Au Pairs to meet up with. Please get in touch if you know anyone who is interested or could be a useful local contact for her. Thank you
  10. 1) Before I moved into the area at least once a fortnight, here I have never been to one. 2) The children can independently run off a lot of steam, rain or shine and have fun! 3) Having to stay with the children because it is too dangerous for them to be on their own or they are not able to access it independently. The dirt. Not being able to see/work out where they are. Bits that an adult can't get into that easily. Being turned away on rainy days. 4)For one ?4.00 for 2 ?6.00.
  11. At school we used to wear pants on top (as well as underneath) to keep our tights from falling down but maybe that is just weird!
  12. Friends of Goodrich (fog)has a Facebook page I think that gives a lovely view of the school. I did some voluntary work there and I was so impressed by the teachers. They have masses of space there and the kids seem lovely. On the show round they say how well the school is doing under the new Head and that children of all abilities do well there.
  13. You should absolutely put your school choices down in the order you want them. We put down fairlawn, Horniman, Goodrich. We were offered a place at Goodrich and were definitely happy with it. But then they added an extra class at fairlawn at the last minute so we decided to change. We were going to put Goodrich first but in choosing to put it third then we knew if we would have got in to the other schools or not.
  14. At last we are looking to get a cleaner. Any advice, recommendations or people wanting to do it would be welcome. We are at the cemetery end of Underhill Road and would be looking for someone to clean for 3/4 hours per week not on a Tuesday. I am about next week for interviews and would be asking for two referees. Look forward to hearing from you.
  15. Thanks for the suggestions and private messages. Another option has appeared that might be more workable. :-)
  16. Hi, We are trying to sort out our childcare conundrum and have various options that all have big negative points. Our son is currently in reception at Fairlawn. My three year old daughter could potentially go to nursery across the road but they finish at 2.30pm and my son finishes at 3.30pm. Would there be a local person/ childminder who could pick up my daughter at 2.30pm and look after her for an hour and then drop her off at Fairlawn at 3.30pm. Because without a car it is just to far for my daughter to go home and come back again, there doesn't seem to be anything to do nearby and an hour is just too long to wait around in all weather. It would be Monday to Thursday. Is there such a person? Or is that just crazy?
  17. We could be interested too. Please can I have her details. Thank you
  18. Maria, our au pair has now started. She is really keen to meet other au pairs. I will pm her details to any au pairs interested.

  21. Hi,I have a 22 year old Spanish au pair starting at the end of the month. I could get in contact when she arrives. There is also a South East London au pair page on Facebook. I hope it is going well!
  22. Super, the 30th it is. Shall we meet in the playground? I will be bringing my 3 year old daughter too. It would be great if any others want to join us. See you then. X
