  1. I can't think of anything the Flying Pig does better than other local options, meaning I have little reason to go, but the food is certainly worse ? and not good for US barbecue in its own right quite aside from local comparisons. If this type of food was really done well then it would certainly be a draw for me.
  2. Does anyone know a reputable place I can take an old PC and an old MacBook who will recover all my files for me? Would prefer a legit business rather than an enthusiastic computer person and am in no way technically astute enough to do it myself.
  3. I have a sideboard with a couple of wonky legs. My method of fixing has failed so I want to call in the pros. Does anyone know a decent furniture repair bod or cabinet maker that will do this kind of work?
  4. Daisy Lets didn't charge us much when we moved into our place and they've provided a reasonable service over the last couple of years as managing agents form a tenant's point of view. I agree with the sentiments about Ludlow Thompson. The agent seemed reasonable enough but they I felt like I could feel someone trying to rip my face off when we started talking about the details (and costs) of the letting agreement. If the owners of a two bed flat on the corner of Crystal Palace Road and Silvester Road that was on the market in the last couple of months are reading this, Ludlow Thompson cost you two decent tenants.
  5. My thameslink train: the 06.30, was diverted to Victoria. Problems with points and contact rail at Blackfriars.
  6. I thought it was just me that cared about toast! With regard to that picture of the Dualit conveyor toaster, far be it from me to disparage Peckham's premier industrial brand but I used one of those things at my old firm. It was a classic case of the toast coming out either looking the same as it went in, just slightly warmer, or burnt to a crisp. The standard Dualit's work much better and are probably the finest toasters I've ever used. I really wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for toast if i knew I was going to get high quality bread and real butter and not Mother's Pride and marge.
  7. I was on a winning quiz team with Simon from TV's Trev and Simon at Dulwich Cricket Club a few weeks ago. As if that wasn't thrilling enough, the quiz was hosted by the bloke from "Josse's Giants." Our edge came because of my grilfriend's expert knowledge of magazine covers and because Simon remembered the Josse from their time on the 80's alternative comedy scene. Josse had a bit of a left-wing act which allowed us to take some very educated guesses at some of the more politicised questions. Was anything funnier than "World of the Strange" and "Swing Your Pants"? I doubt it.
  8. Kid gets stabbed in broad daylight in the middle of a busy supermarket on our collective doorstep and the EDF starts debating the use of apostrophes in the name of the supermarket.
  9. Sue and Eater81 - brilliant! This is real supermarket car park stuff.

Bellerophon Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Playing Devils Whatsisname, I should imagine some > of those staff attempting to destroy the crime > scene knew exactly what they were doing Actually something similar occured to me. Some of the attackers scarpered off through the exit at the back of the store behind the meat counter according to the accounts on here. Good knowledge of the store layout. Would it be beyond the realms of possibilty that they had a mate there who started cleaning straight away to destroy evidence? Of course, it is much more likely it was some innocent poor cleaner just executing orders from some dimwit manager but still... Perhaps some of the perpetrators were familiar with the layout of the store. Perhaps they knew someone that worked there. Perhaps they worked there themselves. Perhaps you saw something. Perhaps you can help. Call East Dulwich CID. In the meantime, keep 'em peeled. Shaw Taylor.
  11. It would be handy if the council stopped collecting stats on grit stocks to give to councillors and actually spent some time deploying it. Westminster doesn't seem to have this problem - I have had no trouble getting around the West End all week yet, there doesn't appear to have been a single grain of salt deposited on a road in Southwark that wasn't previously resident in a kebab wrapper these past few days. The weather has been a bit icy and snowy (note, not a Siberian winter) for almost a week now. Is there any chance the council employees that spend so much of their day in Crossroads Cafe in Bellenden Road could actually get to work on the street outside? even if they just sprinkled the salt shakers on the pavement it would be a start.
  12. Hi Barry, No problem, thank you for finding out what you have so far and I look forward to reading your PM tomorrow.
  13. Definitely, brilliant route. pk Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > isn't the answer train to LB and then go over to > platform 5 (or 6) and hope on to one of the very > frequent trains to waterloo east?
  14. Hi Barry, Thanks for your update of Sep 24th - haven't been around to reply until now. Appreciate the efforts.
  15. There's a good one in Hooper's on Ivanhoe Road. This pub is criminally underused. There's a big quiz at The Gowlett on Monday's too, I think. Great pub but I'd give the pub a miss - it really drags on. It feels like an hour between rounds.
  16. Citizens with speed cameras is just high-tec curtain twitching. Seriously, what would be the point? There's no way I'd accept a warning letter having been "caught" by some busybody waving a radar gun about. I agree with the earlier point that a lot of the danger is caused by poor visibility. On my street, there are two dangerous junctions. At one, I've seen at least one crash a month in the 6 months I've been in my current flat - all caused by drivers having to slam on the anchors at the last minute because it is impossible to see round the corner when pulling out. Then last night there was a big smash at the next junction up which is a busy crossroads despite the roads are effectively back streets. Luckily, there have not been any injuries at these junctions but it might be worth making the area safer for drivers (by removing parked cars) than supposedly making it safer for pedestrians by having an army of old biddies armed with radar guns tutting loudly at anyone with the temerity to leave 2nd gear.
  17. Thanks, Barry. Look forward to hearing what you find out.
  18. On the topic of fares, penalty fares and stuff, I have a question. I recently incurred a penalty fare (incorrectly) and appealed it. The Indepnedent Penalty Fare Appeals Service , to whom I appealed, completely ignored my reasoning saying that because I had signed a bit of paper at the station "procedures had been followed" and that I was liable for the penalty fare. That is to say, paperwork had been done regardless of the actual events that took place. I then complained again about this to IPFAS but to no avail. They have decided their decision is final and have now added a ?20 "admin fee" to the initial penalty fare and passed it on to a debt collection agency. This does not seem the behaviour I would expect form a truly independent body (they would offer further ways to appeal, would not add arbitrary "admin fees" and would not pass debts on to agencies - not least because the debt is to the train company not to IPFAS) so I did some investigation. I found out that IPFAS has its offices in Southeastern Trains HQ and is staffed by Southeastern Trains staff. On the Dept. of Transport website, it says an indenpendent appeals service must be and be seen to be independent. If what I read about IPFAS is true then it doesn't seem that it is and makes me wonder whether or not I should bother paying any of the penalty fare beyond the single fare I had tried to pay in the first place when making my joutney. Barry, I don't want to have a go at you directly about my penalty fare problems - I realise that is not what this thread is for but is this true about IPFAS? That they are based in an SE Trains office and employ SE Trains staff?
  19. I'm with Huggers on this one. There are loads of occasions when the revenue bods are out in full force or other staff are milling about by the barriers but there is only ever one ticket window open plus the machine. Sometimes there are even no ticket windows open. This invariably creates queues which cause people to miss trains and does rather give the impression that there is a revenue maximisation operation afoot rather than a revenue protection one trying to rack up as many penalty fares as possible.
  20. It's just like The Wire! Just hope I live to see another 24.
  21. The Sea Cow is too expensive and the staff are indifferent at best, surly at worst. I rate Cod Fella's on Bellenden Road. Proper chippy, well priced, friendly staff, delicious chips and you get to choose your own piece of fish form the selection.
  22. What, coked up to the eyeballs? I heard they didn't write "Lesbian Vampire Killers" - which is surprising given how poor it is and how obvious and childish the humour. I imagine it was made a little before they got quite so famous. Nonetheless, they still agreed to do it so shame on them.
  23. Fatty and Smug are awful. Clearly their agent has wandered into the BBC and said they'll do a sketch show for cheap. Just pay those two huge fees and they'll save on the rest by writing it themselves and doing it cheaply. BBC gets current hot talent on TV, Horne & Corden get paid a ruck load of money, nobody laughs. They have two jokes - one is sniggering at homosexuality and the other is that Fatty can wave his belly around. Has anyone seen the Al Murray sketch show? I have heard that is almost as bad.
  24. Best off having the DVDs. It rewards repeat watching and I don't know that my girlfriend and I could have waited a whole week for the next episode.
  25. ... an probably the subsequent graffiti (stereotypical 'arf). Good news then. Means I can put the pitch forks and flaming torches away. Perhaps they can incorporate a graffiti proof covering this time or somesuch.
