  1. You are confusing non-EU visitors and residents. Legal residents don't pay for the NHS, no matter what their nationality. However, new non-EU visa applicants must pay a health surcharge. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-on-overseas-visitors-hospital-charging-regulations/summary-of-changes-made-to-the-way-the-nhs-charges-overseas-visitors-for-nhs-hospital-care Pugwash Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Although not employed by the NHS I spent 20 years > working mainly in Kings but also had to include > Lewisham, Princess Royal, Orpington, UCL and other > hospitals in my visits. > > Whilst emergency health care is free to all, > rehabilitation and routine in patient care is > subject to charging if you are a non EU resident. > This is why when you now get a letter for an > appointment you are asked to bring proof of > identity (passport) and address. 2. Just got back from 4 days in Valencia. Great restaurants, zoo, aquarium, science museum, parks, beach and practically no tourists to speak of. May be too hot in summer though. Not a fan of Lisbon.
  3. Close to 2000 people a year are killed by cars in the UK. Bring on driverless cars!
  4. From what I understand about amber teething necklaces is that there is no evidence whatsoever they work, since there is no plausible mechanism for how wearing rocks around your neck might offer pain relief.
  5. The fact that personal/domestic fires are even allowed in an already polluted large metropolis is beyond ludicrous.
  6. won't effect the character of the area * increased traffic * lack of parking * impact on local businesses ...just off the top of my head
  7. Can somebody explain to me what's the big deal about turning 21 in this country? Confused Canadian
  8. They need to do this in Manchester. It takes 10 minutes at every stop to get everyone's payment!

Hopefully there will be a green/red man, and the traffic lights on Wood Vale more visible to somebody standing on the corner.

I went up there for the first time a few weeks ago. Chatsworth Road is like a dystopian Lordship Lane.

Rye Lane is awesome!
  13. Probably unrelated, but you never know - 3 males were involved in a street robbery not too far away about a week ago. http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=7579
  14. It seems the councillors are willfully ignoring any negative aspects of this extension. There also seems to be no consultation for anyone living along the route of the extension (i.e. people living in Lewisham, not Southwark) who will experience greatly increased congestion, noise and pollution. 16. Yes, I took a train at CW west around 9:15, but both platforms were less busy than usual, and an uncrowded eastbound train arrived while I waited.

  18. I'm still not sure WHY London Bridge is set to be a nightmare, since it's not near any venues, southeastern trains won't be stopping there, and I'm not sure how many olympic spectators will be staying in Coulsden South. However I don't doubt that it will be a mysterious nightmare....
  19. As a young(ish) skinny tall white guy who walks to and from H.O.P. every day by that route, I'll keep an eye out for my evil doppellganger. And tell my girlfriend to be on the lookout too. Thanks for posting, and sorry for your experience.
  20. The distance markers have it down as a bit over 1700m (1 mile = 1609m). I think it is pretty accurate based on a lot of marathon training there last year. Don't forget to factor in a few extra meters for running around the hellions on the yellow tricycles.
  21. If you can get to clapham junction (37 bus) the brighton trains via gatwick start around 4 AM.
  22. I'd be much more likely to go if it were called the Village Idiot, or the Village of the Damned. I'm serious.
  23. Sounds like somebody has failed to "taste the difference".
  24. Please no Subway, it always smells so.... yeasty.
