  1. Thanks for the info. Good to hear. [i'm actually not impressed with G&B's beer selection either.]
  2. The beer selection at Somerfield is dire and sometimes it's just too damn far to walk to Sainsburys. Wherefore art thou, bossman?
  3. This might work even better... http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq298/ffrr999/stop.jpg
  4. Unfortunately the new place probably won't fare too well - it looked generally empty at 7 pm last night. I'd feel sorry for them but they've just ignored the basic rule of supply and demand.
  5. From Denmark Hill is probably a better option - to someplace like Otford in Kent which has nice forested hills and the requisite quaint pubs.
  6. a) where did he go? b) why the Hell did he come back?

  8. "But crapping in gardens is my "art"."
  9. I live 2 flats over. Was on the verge of sleep when a racket of banging on the street level door started. Thought it was some unruly yoofs, but it persisted. I uttered something like - "I'm not getting out of bed unless there's a fire" and then the trucks arrived. Quickly put on trousers and ventured out into the bitter cold. Was sheepish when the fireman wondered why I didn't answer the door. Thankfully, the woman was unhurt, but there must be a lot of damage. Apparently it was an electrical fire (portable heater?) which originally started with an easy chair. I didn't know anyone was living there - looks very unkept.
  10. I work on fulham road near south ken and it takes me 40 min. going via Brockwell park/across Clapham common. I've found it can be closer to 30 going via Camberwell and Vauxhall (basically the 185 route), but I usually take the long way to avoid the Champion Hill hill and bad morning traffic on Camberwell New Road.
  11. Is this service completely gone at all times? I ask because I'm trying to get to Gatwick Sunday afternoon, and all the suggestions on the National Rail journey planner are E. Dulwich - E. Croydon - Gatwick. I tried going to Southern's website directly, but it is quite crap and doesn't seem to list any schedule from E.D. station.
  12. Thanks... didn't expect such a response. Probably drag my crew to the C & GH, it seems the most christmas-y. That is if we wake up before 2!
  13. Forgive me if this is a dumb question (this is my first Christmas in England), but I have heard rumours of some pubs opening in the afternoon on Christmas day and was wondering if any local ones would be open. Have a friend in town for only a few days and don't imagine sitting at home all day, but without public transport would be limited to walking distance. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  14. Could somebody also explain why the 40/176/185 all have to arrive at the same time? Surely staggering them a bit would be better!
  15. When it was warmer I was cycling through Battersea park each day to work (along with hundreds of others) and it never occurred to me that you couldn't cycle there. There are no cycling signs on the smaller paths, so it seems extremely odd that Carriage drive would be off limits. Hell, I've even seen taxis driving along when it seems closed to all other traffic.
  16. Coincides nicely with the demise of the coffee machine at my work.
  17. I got mugged in the dark backstreets of Brixton (SW East Dulwich?) on Aug. 20. The guy seemed a bit nervous, but also threatened to stab me so I gave him the ?25 in my pocket. Didn't get my phone or wallet. Now avoiding dark Brixton backstreets near midnight, suggest the same for others.
  18. I 'm training for a half marathon and find this area not too bad for running. I put a few routes on that walkjogrun - if you look at the little icons at the corner of lordship L and blackwater those are mine. My standard sunday route basically links peckham rye, dulwich park, dulwich/sydenham wood and brockwell park coming out to around 17 km. I'm also fond of churning out mile intervals around dulwich park, though one of these days I'm going to get creamed by a pram or a kamikazee kid on those rent-a-bikes. I too am entered in the London marathon ballot, but my plan now is to enter Paris (which is a week later) and defer London until the year after on the odd chance I'm a winner. I've heard that as long as you sign up within the first few days (sept. 15) you're guaranteed to get in to Paris. As an added bonus rumour has it that old men hand out wine in the last few miles.
  19. I'm sitting here listening to the crappy country-esque music blaring from st. thomas more hall, wondering when they're going to stop. I assumed there was some sort of curfew rule there since we haven't had a problem with noise in the 4 months we've lived here. Anybody have any insight? This is highly irritating for a Sunday night.
  20. Whatever you do, don't move to Vancouver for the weather, far more rainy days than London.
  21. Much less ironically ugly fashion as well.
  22. We just had our Virgin broadband connected 10 days ago.... maybe that's what's slowing the system down! It was great for the first week, but the last 2 nights it's been extremely slow. Mornings it seems to be fine.
