  4. Just go here and see your answer: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1524330 Tell me is this community spirit.
  5. DulwichFox change is brilliant for any place for improving the place socially. But I do not agree with the cleansing. You move into a place you impprove it, but you work as as a community to bring up together. Pleople tend to want this and that for their own selfish goals, but tread on those who do try to work hard to acheive something. It is an inevitable fact that rents will increase forcing those individual business owners out of business, some of whom have been there for years. This is happening at Herne Hill station, Half Moon Lane. Who does this benefit it is us who loose because in a way we have not been supportive of our community. It is not just one store, watch and see, it is live a landslide that is waiting to happen. What happens to them now they are moved out and now we get generic people with the ideas of LondonMix. People have lost their persepective of social life it the basic fact their wish is, of how much can my property increase in price.
  6. Yes Ms Blueberry, maybe there is something you could do if it is affecting you house price, maybe you could gather a few friends from the gym, and actually knock on the elderly person's house and ask her if she needs any assistance, would that be a community spirited way of dealing with things.
  7. Now we see the start of another generic high street that will inevitably force up rents for the individual trader, forcing them to move or close. Yes things are good but the way things are going we are heading to a Strpford Wives situation. There will be individual retailers, it will be a mirror of Richmond or Clapham. There will be no individuality, just one and the same whichever place you drive through. The pubs are loosing, well have lost a lot of their individuality, who you see as the landord here today and gone tomorrow, the personal touch the comradarie, yes you got community at present, but for how long. It is all about the community, and without a variety there is no community.
  8. Hi I do not know if this has ever been brought up, or even this actually is an issue for yourself James. However I know this is old and felt a bit stupid about mentioning it, but my wife insisted. The junction of East Dulwich Grove onto Lordship Lane. It is just so used by pedestrians and vehicles, and after the death of the young lady recently (RIP) I think it should be looked into. I could never understand why traffic lights were place a few metres away from this junction for pedestrians, yet the danger remains on this junction. Would it not have been more common sense to have lights on the junction which I repeat is so used, and just seems to be a dodgems between cars and pedestrians trying to cross, and those who I now notice jump lanes into northbound lane from the southbound to beat the traffic lights. I feel and I do not know if everyone feelsthis way the most unsafe junction to actually pass. Regards Sunil
  9. Are we being posh here I thought they were call girls! Whatever goes on in ED?
  10. EDF (DFS) the firm seat to be seen on, and the sale goes on! 365 days a year
  11. Really bad accident at the junction of Dulwich Common and College Road. Allroads leading to here closed, avoid at all costs.
  12. I just looked at Gov.uk. nothing has changed with regards to the legallity of 30 MPH travel. There seems to be a conflict between the legalities of the actual speed limit nationwide and the individual councils. Apparently as the council website documents, they are yet to be able to enforse this as the police have yet to agree to this: 4. Who will enforce the speed limit? The Met Police are responsible for enforcing speed limits in London. Their resources for speed enforcement are limited as they need to prioritise other issues, such as antisocial behaviour and violent crimes. To make the most of resources available for speed enforcement, the Police prioritise roads with high collision rates. Association of Chief Police Officers Speed Enforcement Policy Guidelines state: The police service supports all appropriate speed limits where ? There is a proven need ? The limit is clear, looking and feeling like the limit and ? Motorists have the ability to apply. We are discussing future enforcement in Southwark with the Police and encourage them to continue enforcement at collision hotspots, including 20 mph streets where necessary. We are not relying on the Police increasing resources for speed enforcement for the scheme to succeed, although this would be welcomed. So how and when this will actually be enforsable is a question yet to be raised. Howvever I feel that many of the roads that they have put up signs are ridiculous Herne Hill to Kings College Hospital, Lordship Lane. They are main arteries to London which they stated would not be affected: 6. Which roads do you propose to include in the speed limit? We are proposing to include all roads managed by Southwark, but at this stage it is not known if any ?red routes? which are managed by Transport for London (TFL) will be included. Many of Southwark?s roads are already covered by a 20 mph limit and these would remain although the signage will be reviewed in order to be consistent with the borough-wide scheme. 7. Why might red routes not be included in the borough-wide 20 mph limit? As described above the ?red route? network is managed by Transport for London (TFL) not Southwark Council. TFL has said that it may consider changing the speed limit to 20 mph on the ?red route? on a case by case basis. It does just seem that Southwark like other councils are looking at this as a caah cow such as private parking companies. Even TFL have stated no further cameras will be installed, as theis just semms the conflict of legality in UK speed limit, and indivdual are speed limits seem to clash. Regards Mason
  13. Nothing new, it will be the tube next, something that we have come to expect, as some people have no choice, and they know it! Would it not be nice to hold a city at ransom for extra money just when you feel like it? Not!
  14. watch this space, this was what was said of ED, Nunhead, Catford, and in times gone by Clapham and Battersea.

Yes Dulwich Fox but comared to minicabs this goes to the Black Cab, they do not have to pay for a circuit or commission. However they did work hard for the pleasure to become a Black Cab Driver. However as with all traded there are good and bad. I was stuck in traffic with a customer for 30 mins only to find a road closed in central London. I had to turn round, saw a Black Cab with a cutomer in the back and told him the road was closed, but he just sat there. HUM

The thing about some cab companies they know that they have got a lucrative position, and a place to order cabs where they know there are not many options. Unfortunatly for the driver although the miniumum fare may be ?6.00 as it is with many firms the drivers have to reimberse the company of the extra ?3.00 as commission to their company, on top of this they are charged a weeky rent that can be in excess of ?150.00. So this is very hard on the drivers. I used to work for one of the companies mentioned and know for a fact how it all works. The special holiday rates started on Christmas day (usually double fare), Boxing day (fare and a half). New years Eve (double after a certain time of the day to 06:00am) then New Years day (fare and a half). This is generally the norm for all companies. However it must be remembered on these days the drivers have to pay an excess on their usual weekly payment to work these days. Total exploitation. One would think they are raking it in but believe me they are not, there are really much jobs on these days that are cash, mainly account work that for example the company charges on a normal day ?40.00 for a job to LHR yet they pay the driver ?28.00. So in all respects the driver is at a loss. As with the company that serves King's, they used to serve Dulwich Sainsbury's, but they did not get the contract it was taken by Forest Hill Cars. Even there the drivers got ?5.00 of the ?6.50 that was the minimum + rent to pay.
  20. It is a sad fact that life has become so unimportant, we rush to get things done, to get to places without a thought of anyone else apart from ourselves. I am a driver, and would like to stress a careful driver, but there are lapses in judgment that are caused by the distraction of trying to reach a destination that, five minutes faster, but things have changed. There are far more vehicles and far more cyclists on the road. I am not trained, and the cyclists are not trained, and now I notice pedestrians are not trained to cross the road. I do find myself surrounded at times especially on Brixton Road by cyclists all vying to be ahead of the queue, it is sometimes like the start of the tour de France. On top of this you have pedestrians walking between the vehicles because they can walk 5 metres to the lights. I sometimes cannot move from a traffic light as I have a cyclist on my right, left in front and rear. Then you have the idiot impatiant drivers who have now resorted to hooting the horn once the amber light appears once the light changed from red. On top of this you have the pedestrian who, although the red man shows starts crossing with a pram on a phone, then you have the school mums who think they can cross between the the traffic to save the one minute extra walk to the crossing or those who see a bus and who just run out dodging the traffic. On top of this it is a worry when I have indicated for the past 50 metres ahead that I intend to turn left, but the cyclist does not slow down because he is in the bus lane that I cannot go into until the junction, but as he got his speed does not want to stop. Then the pedestrian who does not check if a car is going to turn into the road that i am turning into as they just walk out into the road. It is a continual vigil, which I undertake and many sensible drivers take, but caution can also be a danger, as drivers cannot check everything. It is really really difficult but in all this, drivers have to be mindful of other vehicles and the laws as well. We all need to work together, and all need education to make our roads safer. There is good and bad in all off us, it is the need to understand as time passes we have a chance to enjoy life, but if we try to rush time we may meet death. When you take all this into consideration, what laws or redress do either pedstrians or cyclist have apart from their own lives and why be so frivolant. Is it not a matter to be more mindful of your own actions, be more patiant, learn the rules of the road, and this is not just to cyclists but to pedestians, cyclists and drivers.
  21. Hi James I have as a driver and pedestrian found the Goose Green roundabout the most riskist and dangerous spot. To have Zebra crossings on a congested roundabout so close together is just so dangerous.
  22. The reality is we cannot stop this, beacuse of our wanton need for fashion at the prices that Britain cannot compare with. The worker, for example in The eastern countries are paid a wage that int their eyes can feed their family, and pay for their rent. By stopping this and asserting the values of the western way off life, just cannot happen it is an economic disaster to them, they would be out off a job, and replace by someone who can do it more cheaply. You can see the same conflict that is happening here. Unions inthese countries are unable to ammass the power as they have had within the western nations as populas, and need for money outstrip the need to survive over the need for greed. If Primark increased it childwear product to the similar price comparison to Mothercare, which would you choose? I personally would choose Mothercare, beacuse I think this is quality, and longer lasting, but the same product proberbly originates from the same country that Primark produces it's clothes, but is more stringent. So as we go back to basics it is value of what we can afford or what we can spend that will drive the market.
  23. Been trying to buy east Dulwich from Southwark council for ages, but for so long have been unsuccessful. I thought this was a Manor that will not only be a good investment for the future, but as a place to find land to build my country house. Southwark unfortunately keeps on halting my plans, and by restricting me to park in so many locations on my envisaged high street, restricts trade, and have really have not helped my future neighbours with the lack of accessible residential parking. I want to encourage trade amongst the local traders by providing at least a 30 minute parking allowance on the high street so one can pick up their essentials, and for all to have an actual residential parking zone, free for those that pay the local taxes that everyone works hard to pay, outside their own homes. Having said that, I do believe the loss of the Police station is a real shame, and some more suitable means to be in touch with the community should be found, and is required. Only last week I was called upon by someone who asked me for a cigarette while walking down my street, and when I said I did not have any, he became very verbal. The other change I would conceive is the Goose Green roundabout. It is the most dangerous and hazardous zones for both pedestrians and vehicles as well. We need to put traffic lights, or keep the roundabout, but do not have the crossings on the actual roundabout. I then talked to M&S about setting up an outlet here, but they just seem to be really meandering on what to do as everyone keeps on complaining about the effect of their lorries on the surrounding roads., but then Iceland do not want to get out of the area as it is quite profitable. Now to the nitty gritty, I love East Dulwich, and feel that we have plenty of properties for sale that the Government can get their tax on, but too many people are highly pricing to keep up with the hype, yet I see many good properties on the market at rates that are comparable to the average market value. People should realise if you want to live in London, and that means anywhere in London, the prices are going to be exorbitant to what one may consider affordable. East Dulwich for all it is just that, East Dulwich, not Picaddilly, and I hope does not turn into a Clapham. I just hope it retains the charm and not lose the community that made it East Dulwich.
  24. Oh Dear What a palava, if anybody states they need a reset and reboot nowadays there is a partition disk in all computers that you can reset and set your computer back to factory settings without a need of a disk. It is usually ctrl and a number. Failing that you just need to look online for a reboot disk that can cost you anything between ?3.00 - 15.00 dependant where you buy it. Thanks Mason
  25. Just read this and thought does gossip not make a community, if not has a big part in building this?
