  1. I am a music teacher (sax guitar singing and songwriting) and also a writer I would be happy to add my tuppenyworth.. with a free lesson or edit...
  2. HI Jon. Thanks for playing so beautfully at my big bash in Herne Hill the other week. I may have a Bass pupil to pass on to you, she has surpassed my meagre Bass chops and is looking for a master such as yourself.. Are you ok teaching teenagers? I presume you are... Let me know, and best of luck, Dan
  3. Hi Debi, Jamming is great for learning - obviously after a while we would need to input some language and look at the players he likes - but sounds like he is already some way down the road, and would be fun to work with.. Hi - I just stumbled across this and was wondering if you're still offering lessons and, if so, what your availability is. My son loves the guitar but hates learning it formally. Would you be able to adapt to some kid of jamming session that would help him progress? Thanks
  4. HI R. I am very much in tune with the odd and unpredicatble.. most times can work with some juggling.. THanks very much for your interest Dan.
  5. HI Simon. Thanks for your interest. Glad your friend liked my teaching - always nice to know... It does seem that most sax teachers are fixated on jazz - not that it's not great music, but the student - if they are a recreational musician - is far more likely to need to know how to fit in to the music his friends are playing at parties and in jam sessions etc.. And as you know, as a guitarist, that's gonna be 12 bar blues - in E!! rock in E!!! (see where I am going here?) and lots of classic and contemporary funk and soul and pop tunes... Playing on this material is a whole different musical vocabulary than jazz - and in fact being overburdened with altered scales and chord knowledge can be a disadvantage. As I found out to my cost when I first starting doing professional gigs. Anyway, obviously you've hit a hobbie horse of mine so I'll shut up. I teach anytime - so long as we can schedule it in with some notice - from 10 am - though to 9pm - and am happy to come to yours - as it's nice to get out into the world - but am fine teaching from home also. Phew; long answer.. Hope that helps And best of luck Dan.
  6. Debi Alpers Husband, Greg, is swimming teacher....
  7. Hi ED stalwarts. Updated update.. I am now entrusted with yet further musical aspirations from the fine and talented folk of the ED manor.. including last night taking over the reins of the very fine goose green choir - from the very impressive Rob - who is a fantastic singer and musician and choir leader. I believe they are going to be mounting a recruitment drive - so look out in Lordship lane for any notices or contact me if you're interested and I'll point you at an administrator. Further to that taught a lovely lady Aint No Sunshine this morning - it's easy folks... And am getting down with a bit of sax madness this evening with my man Andy.. I now have 6 regular Ed students and am going to cap it at about 15. As I said before, I hope to demystify the process - taking the uneccessary frustration and nonsense out of learning. My intention is to empower you as quickly as possible, to be able to learn what you need at your own pace under your own steam ? including how to use resources like youtube, google, and of course, most importantly your own music collection. I live in Friern Rd, East Dulwich, and am happy to travel within a 5 mile radius - or teach from my home. I teach saxophone, singing, songwriting and guitar. Please get in touch if you are interested Dan Maitland
  8. Hi. Quick update.. Have started teaching a number of folks from this forum, and I must say what a fine and talented bunch you are.. I have a double header schoolboy beginners guitar lesson in about 3 hours - about three houses away from mine, and Monday was privileged to bandy saxophones with the very impressive - up to now - guitar legend, John, who not only got a note out of his sax first time - but was managing to play a scale within about 15 mins - as I say, impressive - he can also drop an aeroplane into a tail spin if anyone fancies..
  9. li gardinio... and Mr Lui on Lorship lane by the police station - perhaps lacking in atmosphere but in my opninion one of the best Chinese restaurants in London... good price too..

  11. Hi Kate. I am more than happy to travel to teach and my availablity at that time is pretty good, with a little bit of planning.. I live in east dulwich too, 113 friern Rd, so am probably pretty close. hope this helps. Will PM you my number.. Thanks for the interest Dan M
  12. Hi Luke. Thanks, I just think it should be fun - if it's not fun, why do it...? My rates are 20 pounds for 40 minutes and 27 for an hour. What sort of level are you at, at the moment? Dan.
  13. Hello ED forum chums... its time to dust off those old christmas presents.. and restart the music dream.... I have played and taught professionally for over twenty years: working with many well known artists and teaching at many schools and colleges in London and kent. I have also released my own albums and singles. I am interested in teaching through fun achievable goals and intend to have you playing something recognisable by the end of the first lesson! I now have lots of lovely SE students and am also running a choir on tuesday evenings at goose green school... should anyone fancy... I am happy to sit down with you and work out what sort of music you would like to play, sing, write or all three and then work out a simple plan for how to achieve that goal - including how to use the internet to find chords and tab and tuition videos that complement what i am showing you. In most cases I can get a student into a self sustaining learning curve within 8 lessons. I teach saxophone, guitar, singing and songwriting, to anyone - from adult and child beginners through to people who are already musically literate. 20 pounds for 40 minutes and 27 pounds for an hour - with concessions for small groups, unemployed and younger children. Please get in touch if you are interested. Half price first lesson to anyone who can tell me the band I paraphrased in my title. Dan Maitland [email protected] 07960288053
  14. I am cool, as i play Golf and all golfers are by definition hip and cool. I am creative, as i regularly create a lot of mess in my flat and problems for myself in general... But I am not unfortunately a mum - as my name would suggest.. Also I already know this lovely lady as she is afianced to my good friend. So she doesn't really need to recruit me as a friend, as I am already completely sold on the package and can highly recommend!
  15. there are summer courses for the kids. i was teaching on one last week at the albany deptford. The kids were the excat demographic taht are rioting, and were lovely - respectful and hardworking and keen... Yoo know why and how they were there - mostly? parents who gave a f+++.
  16. dont get on at each other guys - I was just raising the idea - similar to the clapham guy... people should do what they think best
  17. thats a fair point. I am only rasing the issue - already had one lady ring me - I dont want to encourage people to wander around being heroes. I was just thinking that a road full of people is impossible to get down. Please dont mistake me for a brave man. I am discussing blocking not fighting. Its not feasible or advisable unless its a large number of us and if it becomes too much then we retreat and we did our best.
  18. So far not so impressed with the authorities in this.... But these are kids and we are adults this is where we live, isn't kit a bit craven to hide away in our houses while they burn the place down? There are only a hundred or so at most - if we block the main streets with enough citizens in peaceful obstruction they will have to go somewhere else.
  19. is anyone else thinking it would be a good idea for the grownups to gather on Lordship lane and Northcross rd tonight and stand in front of our friends' homes, shops and businesses?
