On the same issue re Berdec. I paid them several thousand pounds and I cannot even get a decent receipt to show for it. All I received is an SMS with the total sum. If the quality of the work was worth it, I might think again. If there had been any attention to my deadlines, had painters decorators and plumbers disappearing for days without any agreement or certain knowledge about when they were turning up, maybe I might have cared less about calling them out - and had I not been forced to clean up after them to avoid them grinding further plaster and paint into the wooden floors the next day, I might have felt less like writing here. My experience was terrible. I have just had a positively awful experience with Berdec: ignored my stated deadlines, the work was totally uncoordinated work as they appeared to me to be rushing to cover as many jobs as possible, sloppy workmanship in several; places, lack of any quality control (there was no checking of the work even when asked)- if you need proof, come to my bathroom where the finish of the plastering (let alone the hacked shower door), was astonishingly awful. And I am still lacking any paperwork for my accountant save a series of sms messages. I cannot recommend.

Shame Jon Smith does not respond to phone calls and texts offering him work......

I had been searching for plumbers and general building trades for several weeks now and using East Dulwich Forum and others. Some, like AFE plumbing, after many assurances, have let me down. Walid (07473 093 653) and his team did not disappoint. Do give them a try.

As a landlord who made the mistake of renting through them, I am currently having a really horrible experience with Winkworths.

I hope you found some good ones. I have failed miserably - I will never use Gareth James or Winkworths again and that is just for starters....

Just when I thought I had plumbed the depths of the estate agents bin in Peckham and East Dulwich with Gareth James, I discover Winkworths! They even charge for doing tenancy agreements! Can it get worse? Probably though it seems amazing that professional and ethical standards can get so low......

I am responding to this request for a recommendation, reinforcing a recommendation I made last year. I discovered Saied-Ebrahimy (Dulwich Eco Gardening)last year. I had planted bamboo several years before and then moved abroad and put tenants in the house. They failed to look after the garden so by the time I found Saied it was in a terrible condition and overrun with bamboo and terribly overgrown and no lawn left. Said spent two weeks devoted to starting to transform the garden. Because of the inevitable cost of labour I spent a minimal amount on new plants and laying a new lawn, with him doing regular maintenance(monthly during the growing season) to ensure the bamboo was dealt with and the lawn and plants allowed to grow and flourish. Within a couple of months the garden was transformed and the photographs of this year's Spring garden testify to his skill, diligence and knowledge of what he is doing. Saied has been amazing: he is honest, trustworthy, responsible, diligent and a great gardener and enormous value for money. I cannot recommended more highly. Thank you Saied.

Experience with Estate Agents - Gareth James - my and my tenants' none too happy experience Just when I thought it could get no worse - just when I thought I had experienced the worst in Estate Agents East Dulwich and Peckham had to offer in letting my property, I discovered Gareth James. Uncoordinated, staff going on holiday without warning, and without backup, not carrying out instructions, not informing me about taken deposits, not undertaking gas and other certificates when instructed (twice) and then to cap it all, despite clear instructions to the contrary, telling the new tenants to pay them for a second month and not me. They have failed to let me have their complaints policy ..... There need to be much tighter controls and monitoring of these businesses.

Saied has just completed an amazing job with my garden (front and back). He had to dig up the roots of the entrenched bamboo that had run wild and ferocious across and underneath the whole garden, clear and cut back the rest of the garden with care and then replant and add in with sensitivity. Absolutely reliable Saied did a tremendous job. Saied is not necessarily the cheapest but he is absolute value for money. He is kind, absolutely honest, has a great attention to detail and really commits himself to the work. I am delighted to recommend him and thank him for the work that he has done.
