"Surely these days we're a far more class-less society..."
TheCat replied to Dogkennelhillbilly's topic in The Lounge
Classy sketch. -
Yeah. Agreed. It seemed a totally bizarre choice from a number of different perspectives Fifa has had a 'cracking' run of late haven't they...Russia in 2018, Qatar in 2022, and (possibly) Trumps America in 2026.... So far as alternatives go...last night I watched some old episodes of Seinfeld on Netflix...forgotten what a good show that was....

Yep, don't disagree with this. In the context of my original post....its a little eye-opening that around half the counties that criminalise homosexuality are commonwealth countries....which 'we' are collectively happy to compete at commonwealth games and other sporting events without armbands or protests... Also...at the risk of being branded toxic again....its notable thay the dominant narrative (from the left) at events like the commonwealth games and chogm seems to typicall reference the evils of colonialism...which is largely a thing of the past....but invariably little or no comment on the oppression of lgbt people which is something that is ongoing and is happening right now.... Just interesting to consider what drives the attention that some causes get over others. Im aware that the football world cup is a big deal and there are specific circumstances around various decisions that have been made..but just thinking out loud.....I suspect national wealth plays a part in willingness of western commentators to criticise...I.e. Qatar is a wealthy country...but I guess not a good look for the guardian to punch down and moralise to a relatively poor African nation for example...

Well I've tried reasoned explanation and evidence based argument at various times....none of which seem to make a blind bit of difference to intolerant shoot from the hip rage, even when totally uncalled for ....so I might as well have a little fun with it now....i mean...being 'called out, for my 'toxic views' expressed in my OP above...puuurleeease!...if others cant be serious then why should i be....? Since you and seph seem so full of advice about what people 'should' post... allow me to return the favour...the last few posts you've directed at me across different threads haven't addressed the thread topics at all, but have been a vehicle to mock or criticise me....perhaps you SHOULD concentrate less on me (flattering as it is) and more on the topics at hand....

For your education mal... https://www.humandignitytrust.org/lgbt-the-law/map-of-criminalisation/

Which is exactly what I have done. But I do like referring to 'lefties'...because it just seems to wind you up so much....
-
It is a very strange bubble that you live in. No...no one does make me post this stuff... and your intolerance for anything that isn't in total agreement with what you read somewhere, and which might require one iota of critical thought is beyond the ridiculous. If you don't think it's interesting to ask/ponder why we, collectively as a society, get outraged about certain things and not about others, which may be equally distasteful, then that is probably due to your lack of a curious mind. Thanks for 'calling me out'...im sorry if i hurt your little 'leftie' feelings by not giving the expected/approved response, so made you feel bad about your leftie hypocrisy....which you know to be true, but dont like it when people say it, hence lashing out at me in your anger at yourself. In anycase, all you've managed to do is highlight your own intolerance and ignorance....once again... Cheerio
-
Sigh. Because I make some comments that don't 100 per cent align with the graun/sephiroth approved view of the world (what you SHOULD talk about cat...is what I want you to talk about), your have created this golem of what you assume a horrible right winger is probably like, based on absolutely nothing of any substance. Lets recap....I've said Qatar gets rightfully lambasted, and that these intolerant views should be challenged.....and in your head that's a "toxic" view...pull your head in mate....
-
Is there anything I say that doesn't make you froth with rage? It's quite comical really how much I seemingly irritate you
-
Fascinating that given there are around 70 countries in the world where homosexuality is illegal...that Qatar is being lambasted (rightfully so) I agree that these views should be challenged. But again it's fascinating that lefties talk a lot about accepting different cultures, but if that culture doesn't like the gays we only mention it when there's a world Cup on...
-
A valiant effort malumbu. But we're not dealing with reasonable people here.... Better to say I told you so than be constructive at all. It was brexitieers who wanted this...so that apparently justifies checking out completely...

Any recommendations for senior/quality agents to manage rental property in dulwich and give view on possible rent and required improvements etc? It's our family home so more keen on experienced agent and quality tenant than the most rent. I don't want a 20 something year old who's doing it until they can do something better.

A rare moment of agreement with sephiroth. Income and wealth disparity are featuresq of many nations...but no one quite adds the layer of snobbery/reverse-snobbery like this country.... I'm curious though DKH what makes a coffee shop 'smug'? Is it a threshold number of how many different types of non-dairy milk they offer? Or a price thing? Or a prejudicial judgement on the clientele? -
Not at all, I'm sure it's been said but I'm equally sure that unless you cite the context it was said i.e. it could have been said in relation to when discussing No Deal, then it's nothing more than throwing words around. Again, for some people Brexit has been ''really, really bad'', and who's to say that whoever's used that term on here hasn't themselves had a really bad experience with Brexit? Not everyone wants to wash their dirty laundry on the EDF. And if you want some data, I'll send you my latest mortgage statement courtesy of the Brexity free trade loons at B4B and their mucky paw prints all over Trussonomics and the catastrofuck that turned out to be. Remind me, how are B4B showing the £50b fiscal black hole in their 'data'? And Seph makes an important point, it's not just economics that Brexit has affected, it's had an extremely adverse effect politically, and I'll add socially too... Well I did provide a Google link to a long list of news stories proclaiming said 'disaster'...so feel free to browse to gain all important context. And you may well accuse me of 'caveating everything'...but I did very clearly make my initial statement today about economics at a national level. It's you that have chosen to pivot and 'attack' my position using stories of individual traders, your mortgage and politics/social issues. I must say, you do puzzle me, as often on the underlying guts of what I'm saying I think we're not in total disagreement, but you do the very thing you accuse me of and twist, obfuscate or focus on minutae to manufacture an argument or an attack on me.....as someone said recently on this forum....a rationale response would have been to say 'yes there hasn't been a significant negative impact economically at a national level, I largely agree with you'....but DR can never admit that the much hated cat might have a point on something, instead he has to double down, and/or point score, and/or maybe even throw in an ad hominem, and/or caveat something to within an inch of its life, and so on.... Anything but 'you might be right about something cat'.....

Haha...New heights of disengenuity....'I'm sure SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE has suggested brexit is a 'disaster''... https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-samsung-rvo1&source=android-browser&q=brexit+disaster Also...a concession that brexit isn't much of anything at a national level isn't a 'line of attack'....its a fairly sober assessment of the reality...one which you (and you friend Mr henig) seem not to wildly disagree with... Perhaps though it is in response to these obscure, unheard voices who are claiming brexit has been really, really bad.....
-
Never fear...I definitely don't listen to you.... But also...I don't know what minford has to do with the report I linked to...he is not one of the authors. Moreover, im not sure what a 5 year old article about him has got to do with anything. In anycase...forgetting anyones opinions of anyone elses opinions, or even any opinions contained in the article i linked to, I asked about data...and the data quoted in the report (which you doubt the factual credibility of), is sourced from the OECD and the ONS.... That's not opinion. Thats fact. Unless you're now saying the Office for National Statistics is warping the data for brexit purposes?... So long story, short....you still haven't read the article or been able to quote any data at all to prove the brexit disaster point.... Perhaps 'those reading' should be more concerned with how 'reasonable and factual' most of your comments are....
-
I'll just leave this comprehensive review of economic data here for a second time....so someone can please point me to the obvious data which proves brexit has been a total disaster.... No it hasn't been a roaring success either (largely through lack of any meaningul diversion from previous policy in my view)..at least I have the objectivity to admit that...Overall, apart from the higher blood pressure of some EDF remainers, the whole thing has actually been a a bit of a non-event from a national economic perspective....certainly when considered versus other economic events in recent years...for all the angst, it's really neither here nor there to be honest....so was it worth the trouble? Probably not at this point.... But I keep being told its absolutely clear that its a total disaster....although no one seems to be able to isolate the 'obvious' specific economic data that proves this... And no, snooty, dismissive remarks can't really be seen as 'data' I'm sorry to say...

Anyone with an actual long term vision/plan for the UK?
TheCat replied to TheCat's topic in The Lounge
I, for one, am definitely "Ready for Rishi!".....when does he start? -
Sigh...okay fine...I more meant 'privileged and majority white nations' rather than the text book 'white privelige'.....my heartfelt apologies for my incorrect use of this term....but i didn't need to explain that really, did I? because you knew exactly what I meant, and decided to post on this minutae which in no way really impacts anyones understanding of the broader comment being made....but apparently I'm the one that 'point scores'.... Anyway...anything to say on the actual topic of the thread?
-
Ah yes...the tried and tested..."if someone doesn't think exactly as I do, they just don't understand and should educate themselves".... In anycase....youre picking on an insignificant/inconsequential phrase in the context of a much broader comment.....but always good to just have a little dig isn't it....?
-
Your comments about how this debate is being 'perceived' are accurate I think...most people would see it through the lens of your comments about developed nations versus developing, North versus South or for some people even white privelige versus oppression of nations of colour.... Unfortunately this perception is not the reality. If one looks at the cumulative carbon emissions by country....of the top 10 nations...while, yes, 8 of them are in the northern hemisphere.....you actually find thag 5 of them are clasified as developing nations, and 5 of them would be considered by most people to be 'non-white'... https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-which-countries-are-historically-responsible-for-climate-change/ So those more motivated by ideology than pragmatism may find their argument slips away pretty quickly.... Further...while of course nations in need should be assisted by others where possible...how does one disaggregate the climate change impact from other impacts.. ? Is every natural disaster attributable to climate change? Do we only consider the impact of disasters above a certain 'baseline' criteria? Also, If economic progress driven by higher carbon emissions has allowed wealthier countries the ability to provide significant humanitarian aid to poorer countries over the decades...should these aid amounts now be netted off the 'climate reparations' being demanded? Further, life expectancy has increased over the past 100 years in basically every country in the world.... much of that has been driven by medical, technological and industrial innovation in more developed nations, which were at least partially made possible by advanced development, in turn made possible by additonal carbon emissions.....so do we need to net off the relative carbon emissions which have resulted in innovation which has benefitted all nations to varying degrees? In summary...I think the concept of demanding direct payment of 'climate reparations' in isolation (i.e. the uk should pay x amount direct to pakistan) is an opportunistic farce.....BUT....that doesn't mean that their can't be some additional generic fund (like the imf for example) which ALL nations contribute towards and is used to aid/assist those who may have aditional humanitarian requirements linked to climate change...but it will likely end up being considered as 'aid' rather than 'reparations'....

Pretty tricky to export electricity when you have no close neighbours.... But much easier to export lng😀
-
In all seriousness...DR you seem like an intelligent (while chippy😂) chap....so why do you willfully make statements that are just complete cr@p.. Less control of the borders? I mean come on....all European countries have experiencesd a rise in those seeking asylum due to various conflicts etc. Also, the overall numbers of net migration are similar to prebrexit...but now massively weighted toward more qualified and skilled individuals...due to 'the control'...how is that a bad thing?
-
Sorry ..I just thought we were saying stuff and linking it to brexit even if it has f#ck all to do with it....
-
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/nov/02/europes-climate-warming-at-twice-rate-of-global-average-says-report Phew, lucky for us the brexiteers won the day and we got out of the spiralling temps in the EU.....the remainers lied to you about not being planet arsonists....
