Home Secretary on Ivydale Road

Sounds like a job for the FIT! :-S http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_Intelligence_Team http://www.newstatesman.com/200805030006 -
Jo Brand. In the library. With a polling card. Very nice of Jo to take part in my election observer polling station exit survey. A true star (i.e. not behaving like one)

I think he may have been talking about the drugs, maan(td) -
I was at City Hall Friday night, but we spent so much time running up and down stairs to and from the chamber (and leaping into the lift only to leap out again going 'yikes! when I saw my companions') that I didn't have time to post anything here :-$

"A mezzanine bedroom faces the south facade..." So it'll be hanging in mid-air in the street? The writer is most definitely writing-challenged. -
Non, je ne regrette rien and stuff like ever

pollings stations around Southwark
louisiana replied to louisiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's 7.53pm the day before the election, and the London Elects 'find your polling station' website facility is still down, as is the 'elections in my area' facility. Apparently London Elects is only able to function via mobile phone texting right now. Here's a complete list on the Web of polling stations by London borough, on the Open Rights Group website: http://www.openrightsgroup.org/orgwiki/index.php/London_Elections_in_2008#Lists_of_polling_places -

Hope to be attending this one, after many near misses over the last year+. Will be dragging along Mr Louisiana too, who will be in town specially. -

pollings stations around Southwark
louisiana replied to louisiana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Correction: the LE home page is not down, but if you try and find anything out (your polling station, info about voting in Southwark etc.), you just get a 404 page (and before that you got a fairly horrific error page). They seem to have a database problem. Still a problem at the moment (6.30pm) -
If you've tried to visit the London Elects website today to check where you polling station is or similar, you will probably have found the site is down. It's been down for the best part of the day. (Lots of money spent on advertising/posters, little on web infrastructure, it seems.) If you want to check where you need to go, our (Open Rights Group) wiki page may help you. This page lists all polling stations in Southwark (building and street, and postcode where it's been provided to us). http://www.openrightsgroup.org/orgwiki/index.php/Polling_stations_Southwark There's also one for Lambeth: http://www.openrightsgroup.org/orgwiki/index.php/Polling_stations_Lambeth and so on. These are the pages we're using ourselves for planning, as we clearly can't use the London Elects ones! Happy voting tomorrow!

I think all politicians - hear this TJ - should live on the Dog Kennel Hill estate. They'd only have to have one set of security, they'd be very much in touch with the local community, and we'd know where to find them. >:D< -
Traffic wardens on Lordship Lane having a field day (Lounged)
louisiana replied to seanmlow's topic in The Lounge
I wish there had been a warden around a couple of weeks back, when a stupid sports car double parked outside Somerfield for ages. Stopped all the traffic on the lane. The guy seemed to be waiting for someone doing the shopping. Traffic backed up to the police station and beyond. I did go up to the car and made a comment to the driver, but I think his expensive glass prevented him from interacting with the real world. -
You can grab Raiding the 20th Century (DJ Food) here http://www.ubu.com/sound/dj_food.html where you'll also find a complete track listing

Now while the likelihood of nobody getting 50% is high, there's no guarantee. And if one candidate gets 50%, all second votes just go in the bin.

Also works for many 0845 numbers. It's on my browser favourites.

For anyone interested in how forum legal threats can pan out, check out the Netmums / Gina Ford saga on the web. (There are forum cases that have gone the other way but...) The libel laws in the UK are fairly tricky (compared to other countries such as the US). Online has really made things trickier still. When added to no-win, no-fee legal arrangements (so any tom dick or harry can launch an action with nothing in the bank), you have a recipe for effective censorship. Some free speech laws in the UK would not go amiss. There are a number of very sensible people pursuing a bill of rights for the UK, and I wish them luck...

You can have a *good* wine with your food in G&B, with the wine costing less than ?14. A ?14 pound wine in most restaurants will generally be piss-poor.

Tootled over to Honor Oak Park to finalise delivery of sofa, got back home same time as sofa delivery, rearranged furniture. And it was still only 8.30am. So did some paid work, then headed to Dartmouth Arms for an early lunch (12.15) in the sunshine out at the back. Then off to central London, specifically the Apple store. Parked in Smith Square to avoid meters. We hiked through St James's Park and across Pall Mall, and stopped at the Red Lion on Duke of York St for a swift half. Then onwards to Regent Street. Waylaid by Liberty (mainly 4th floor), and finally made it to the Apple Store to pick up a new Macbook. Then trekked back to Smith Square, via some window shopping on Bond street and environs. Love the Bambi t-shirt in the window at Vivienne Westwood. Collapsed in a heap around 10pm. So much for the proposed night at The End. But at least I now have a Mac. Today has also been busy:)

Local authorities etc are increasingly handing over what were public spaces to private organisations. There was a good piece - book extract - in the Observer/Guardian a few weeks back - covering in particular a case in Liverpool where whole streets are being lost from the public sphere, as well as the situation in Chinatown in London. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/mar/29/communities I'm with you on this. Not unreasonable behaviour at all. And as it happens, the local authority has been trying to change bye laws to stop people cycling along the Thames path near there too. Quite a stink thrown up by cyclists when this was found out.

Administrator Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The forum has received a notice that discussion of > the drainage issue may result in legal action > being taken against the forum. I'm sorry to hear that. Our libel laws are not the best in the world (as Netmums and others have found to their cost.) I live in hope of a government, any government, sorting them out, but I fear it won't happen in my lifetime. What with other important matters to deal with (lap-dancing clubs, casinos etc. etc.)
