  1. Well, i can't make any promises bbwolf, i can only say i'll do my best! Although B'stard always makes me think of a combination of Mandleson and Archer, which is an ungodly terrible thought... I'm going to have to go on a Comic Strip marathon now to purge such thoughts from my mind.
  2. apologies bbwolf, my sarcasm was a touch subtle for this time of night...
  3. Definitely B'Stard. I'm sure he was modeled on several well known tory MP's from the time...?
  4. Hmmm, very good point about the CPT. OK then, the CPT isn't allowed, (as it's technically my local!) Need to find another CPT somewhere... A tall order i know!
  5. Help... Ok, i need the combined experience and discerning tastes of the whole East Dulwich forum team to help me out with this one; Can somebody help me find a traditional south london pub? Doesn't have to be Dulwich based, (which could be rather tricky these days!) No re-furbed gastro pubs allowed. Must be as i described. Needs 'character', old style architecture, good range of beverages, and, well that boozer 'x-factor' that seems to be disappearing. The place i'm after doesn't have to be chocolate box pretty, or tourist friendly, it could even be described as 'manky' in the right light. It just needs to be real. (Oh, and i'll happily say why i'm after such a place if i get enough help with this!) Looking forward to your suggestions.
  6. Hmm ....see they change colour the Foxtons signs,it's only LED that can do this.If you look close you can see a web of lamps behind the signage. OK, so as i wipe the egg off my face and polish of my humble pie i admit you're right woofmarkthedog. Just walked past and saw it. Apologies to you... I am surprised though, they must be making far too much money!
  7. > These signage units are LED low powered units. woofmarkthedog, i hate to p*ss on you p*ssing on fires, but shopfront signs are still fluorescent based. Usually using lots of tubes to produce an even field. LEDs are coming along in their development and application, but they are still many times more expensive than other light sources. To recreate a fluorescent shop sign using LEDs would cost thousands of pounds, rather than a couple of hundred for fluorsecent. Considering the subject of this thread, i hardly think foxtons would invest this kind of money to lead the way in shop front lighting. They'd much rather spend their profits on badly parked garish minis...
  8. This is more of an idle though than a rant of any kind, but has anyone else seen the guy on the quad bike, often tearing along Barry road? Its a bit bloody noisy, especially with the needless revving the engine. (Unless the engine is shot and stalls at junctions? Had a car like that once...) I've nothing against quad bikes, they can be rather fun, off road, but on a busy road like that, with no helmet, it just seems like an accident waiting to happen. (At least it has a rear number plate now...)
  9. Hi missus, I'm sure you don't (at least i hope you don't) agree with violence towards human beings. But you seem to suggest that unprovoked vandalism is ok is it? I'm not sure why you're splitting the hairs in Stephs message? It wasn't only me who took what she wrote in the way that i took it. The messages previous to this seem to prove that?
  10. "I would probably exact said violent feelings on his camera." "And no, I do not agree with violence" Contradiction anyone...?
  11. Very eloquently put bignumber5... I'd vote for you!
  12. "If I did not like the response I would hope my husband would take the camera off him and put it over his head. (Not in front of my child, I would take him for a walk)" Why take the child for a walk? It would surely be educational for him to see 'justice' dispensed without such trivial things, such as evidence, witnesses, a fair trial, or any of that other boring law stuff... I would say that if you didn't like his response, and his camera was 'put over his head' then the police would be a lot more interested in you and your husbands behavior Steph. Seriously dismayed that such a violent reaction could be seen as acceptable, no matter how politely its written.
  13. Media hype blown out of all rational proportion (again) to distract... oink etc...
  14. So i'm sure everyones seen the new ducklings and moorhen chicks, but today i noticed the terrapin is awake now, and a new young heron in the Rye, (seemed smaller than the one that has been around for a few months...?)
  15. Glad you liked Franklins mango. Its a firm favorite of mine. The breakfasts on saturday are well worth a go.
  16. Yes Dave, it was down near the station, facing up the hill, (i.e. parked in the direction of traffic in one of the outlined spaces, half on the pavement.) Have parked there countless times without issue, (never again though) apart from the occasional spattering of white stuff that seems to appear from time to time. (I think there's been a thread on the random white stuff before, but it looks like a flock of giant pigeons with dodgy tummies have flown over.) And the speed cushions seem to be a double edged sword, they do seem to slow people down, which is good, but they now encourage sudden darting into the middle of the road in an attempt to drive over them square on, which seems to increase congestion in certain places, which increases some peoples frustration, which results in some driving faster and revving harder between humps... Logic in that?
  17. PR, I personally fail to see the logic of the mini humps that are all over the place. I can see the idea that on a bus route it means the buses can straddle the bumps, but with the amount of wide axle 4x4's that can do the same kind of negates the point. They also seem to encourage people to drive down the middle of the road to try and straddle them, making a road that could fit 2 cars driving in opposite directions quite happily, into a slalom with folks that nip out into the middle of the road to straddle the bump. (Not a problem when there's nothing coming in the opposite direction, but a bit dangerous when there is...) Anyway, don't mean to turn this into a speed hump rant...
  18. Well PR, i don't know what the answer is, or if there is even an answer to be found. Public highways are public highways... And while i'm fairly pragmatic about parking scars in london, i don't really expect to find a written off car when parked in a marked bay. Grrr etc...
  19. Yes Lenk, I was merely making an educated suggestion (based on the damage,) and not actually accusing anyone or anything specifically. Wouldn't do that. I meant that non-specific big vehicles being driven at sometimes high speeds around residential roads is an accident waiting to happen. Unless i'm the only person who's noticed the recent addition, and driving habits, of these big tipper trucks to our local roads?
  20. KKel, apology accepted, thankyou. I've had conversations with other locals who have noticed these lorries and the way they are driven, but not heard of any other accidents, yet. (Thats why i posted this.) I'd say they are an accident waiting to happen, but its happened already!
  21. In the interests of mediation; KKel - Yes you're quite right, there are places you shouldn't park so as to reduce the risk of damage by inconsiderate tw*ts. This however wasn't one of those occasions, (as i said, i parked in a bay, have done many times before, as have countless other people.) And, hindsight being the wonderful thing it is, i won't park there again. I think your post, despite you saying you weren't trying to sound unsympathetic or have a go, unfortunately came across as doing just that. James - You're quite right too, though your anger is beating mine, and i've had my car trashed!! Have you suffered a similar thing?
  22. Wow. Do you two know each other or something?
  23. It's a greater spotted woodpecker louisiana. The best thing is the other birds don't seem to mind it. I've seen the woodpecker and 2 great tits on the feeder at the same time.
  24. Interesting material on this thread but none of you has told me what the hell the foxes are getting up to when they make that shreiking noise that sounds like an infant being stabbed, I've heard that it's the female vixens 'fakeing it' but surely there's more solid explaination. This should answer your fox related screaming question... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061001145713AA7qjrP
