  1. Not sure about East Dulwich, but he rented a house for his mistress in Linden Grove, Nunhead from 1868 to 1870 (when he died).
  2. If you're giving Dickens a go, I would recommend David Copperfield and Little Dorrit (along with Great Expectations, which others have mentioned). All wonderful books.
  3. 'Chugging' is a contraction of 'charity mugging.' (A bit like Jedward, but even more annoying.)

  5. In the current financial climate, flats are hard to get rid of...
  6. Agree this is an informative thread - these bus announcers have exposed a pronunciation minefield. Makes me glad I live on Overhill Road...
