  1. Very happy to add to the chorus of happy customers for Aston. He has carried out a number of jobs for me, most recently some work sorting out my wonky front door and fitting a new letterbox. He is always punctual, communicative and helpful. Really pleased with his work and happy to recommend him.
  2. Thanks Sue. And, yes, I did mean the Grove/Harvester (not the Plough). Oops.
  3. Haven?t done this walk for ages. Could someone please confirm whether the Cox?s Walk closure means that it?s not possible to walk through the woods from the Wood House pub in Sydenham down to the old Plough pub on Lordship Lane? Thanks
  4. Very pleased to add my recommendations to the ones above for Brian and his team. They did a superb job of repainting my kitchen and some exterior work. I'm extremely pleased with the quality of the finish and they worked very hard to ensure that they completed the work when they said they would. The levels of communication and reliability through the process were very high too. Brian also gave helpful advice on some aspects and the inevitable minor snagging was sorted out promptly and with zero fuss. Theirs wasn't the cheapest quote I received for the work, but I'm really pleased I chose to go with them.
  5. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs for a moment(!), I had understood that the time periods of the restrictions was going to be reduced. If that's correct, does anyone have any information on when the reduced time periods are due to take effect please? Thanks.
  6. Hello. We?re planning to have our kitchen cabinets repainted (well, painted for the first time really, they are plain wood). I would really appreciate any recommendations from anyone who has had similar work done please. Thanks very much.
  7. We found a Visa card today in Dulwich Village from the Co op bank belonging to Mr Gupta. We handed it in to the post office / pharmacy in the village.
  8. Still got nowhere with this. Any ideas or thoughts very gratefully received! Thanks
  9. Hello We're looking to replace our old leaky French door at the back of our kitchen with a modern, aluminium sliding door. I've had no problems finding good suppliers for the new sliding door, but they all seem to require a builder to do the initial work of removing the old French door and preparing for the installation of the new sliding door. But the job seems to be far too small for a builder to want to take on. It seems that people usually replace their old door as part of a larger building project, which I understand but surely it's not entirely unheard of simply to want to replace a door...! Does anyone have any useful ideas or recommendations please? Either for a company who will supply the new sliding door but also do the work on the old door. Or a builder who will do the work. Or anything else... Thanks!
  10. Yet another very positive recommendation for Gerry. He came round promptly, figured out the problem and kept going with it until it was definitely solved. And an extremely personable guy too. Will call him out again in a flash if I have any other plumbing issues! His number is 07872 303925.
  11. We?re looking for recommendations for good local builders. The work is replacing our kitchen, including moving an internal door and replacing the patio door. Not major structural work but does involve replacing everything, including the flooring. Thanks
  12. I also would add my recommendation for Niko. He came around at really short notice and fixed a leaking outside two for me. Seems to have done a good job (it?s no longer leaking!) and was a very nice guy too.
  13. A big (but belated) thanks for the replies to this. Particularly the suggestion of contacting PALS who were hugely helpful. Thank you.
  14. Does anyone know what is going on with the Opthalmology department at Kings? I've had an eye appointment first pushed back from February to July, and now at the last minute it has been delayed to December! No-one who I can get hold of by phone has any idea what is going on. I will go there in person as soon as I can to try and find out, but wondered if anyone knew...? Thanks
  15. Another thumbs up from me too for Aston. He did a great job of helping me put up some really fiddly shelves. Would definitely recommend and will use him again myself.
  16. Does anyone know please whether it?s necessary to buy tickets in advance or whether they will be sold at the gate? Planning to go but a family thing might get in the way and probably won?t know until the last minute if can make it. Also, is there likely to be parking near the ground? Thanks.
  17. Thanks very much for the replies (and for the PM's that a few others have sent directly to me). Very kind and helpful to have taken the time to reply. I'm still working on it but the thoughts have been useful.
  18. I'm aware that a number of properties in our area have historically suffered from subsidence in one form or another, and so hoped someone might have any useful thoughts on where to obtain buildings (and contents) insurance? My house had an issue a number of years ago and unfortunately my current insurers have written to me to say that the insurer which they used is no longer on their panel and they have not been able to obtain alternative cover so my house is uninsured in a few weeks...! Thanks very much for any pointers. (I have seen a separate thread on here about using Aviva - that seemed to be focussed on contents only, rather than buildings insurance, but I will give them a try anyway)
  19. We are looking for a new cleaner for our house (based in Dulwich). About 4 hours work, ideally on a Thursday. Please get in touch if you are interested or if you would have someone to recommend. Thanks
  20. I am looking to get our old bath re-enamelled/re-surfaced as it is in a bit of a state. Would be very grateful for any recommendations of decent companies to do this please. Thanks
  21. I imagine this isn't the first recommendation for them on EDF, but I used Bells (including the fitter they recommended) for my new downstairs toilet refit recently and was very impressed. Tony gave excellent personal service and they sorted out a few issues which arose (through no-one's fault) very promptly and with zero fuss. Big thumbs up from me.
  22. Thanks for your reply and sending that link. Mine actually gets (frustratingly!) close to ending before it fails - 95% complete - so I guess we have a different issue.
  23. I need some help with upgrading my laptop to Windows 10 ( I have tried a number of times and it keeps failing). I'd also like some help with setting up power lines to expand my wifi coverage. Does anyone have any recommendations for anyone local who is knowledge and reliable and does home visits please? Thanks
