Switching to cartons could would surely be a simple improvement , but as with coffee cups they may be lined with plastic -

This scheme seems in line with the OP's idea. The video is a couple of years old so no idea if it's still going, how successful it was or how much it added to the cost of a takeaway but I would be glad to see this locally. -

I enjoyed the "Camberwell 1963" thread posted by nxjen on an earlier thread and it led me to this interesting early film on Peckham. I don't know where the building in the first half of the film is but in the street scenes about half way through you need to imagine you are opposite HSBC on Rye Lane looking north towards Wetherspoons on Peckham High Street. http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-alexandra-day-in-peckham-1913/

In Peckham indoor market the key cutting unit sharpens garden shears for ?3, does a good job so worth it if you have a good quality pair. Probably other key cutting places do the same if closer to you.
