  1. My housemate told me she saw an albino squirrel near St Francis Road about a month ago. I assumed she was crazy and seeing things, but here's the proof that she was indeed right. I stand corrected.
  2. The Friends of Dulwich Picture Gallery are always looking for volunteers. There's information about current help needed on the Gallery website: http://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/support_us/friends/working_with_the_friends.aspx It's a worthwhile organisation and there's a real sense of community too.
  3. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this post. I was so interested in what you had to say, I wrote it up as an article for online magazine Dulwich OnView .... http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2008/09/26/story-behind-the-street-the-dutch-estate/ Cheers, Steve
  4. Well done EDF for getting people to notice this issue. We've posted something on Dulwich OnView as well, to aid with the efforts: http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2008/09/23/angels-and-some-little-devils/
  5. That's an amazing story and a great example of another link between Dulwich and the Dutch. Thanks for finding it, EDOldie.
  6. Thanks for these suggestions. Twinning - I can't find any reference to us being twinned with anywhere in the Netherlands, though. Second World War - yes, I thought that too when I first walked past. Nimegen and Arnhem. But then there's Kempis Way as well, which has nothing to do with the war, so I got a bit confused. Dutch Government - I'd read about them being in Dulwich too, but still wonder why they named an estate after them. The mystery continues ....
  7. Does anyone know why the estate between Dulwich Hospital and Alleyn's School has loads of Dutch street names? Arnhem Way. Delft Way. Nimegen Way. Isel Way .... They look like post-war buildings, but I've no idea why some town planner decided to name the new development after Dutch places. Anyone got any info on that?
  8. We just featured a short article on the Dulwich OnView online magazine about Eynella Road and where the name comes from. Interesting reading ...... http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2008/09/16/the-story-behind-the-street/
