I find the fact that the 185 has joined the rank of talking buses far more irritating than a driver who I've never noticed - so I'm guessing that he can't terrorise everyone.

They're traffic based for TfL. The police are only there because they're the ones with the authority to actually pull motorists over. There was one at the end of Wood Vale last month and they're also on Red Post Hill today.

For anyone who still has a desire to stick a picture of David Bowie on their wall, the 'pop art' gallery on Kings Road has an interesting (potentially ridiculously expensive) box frame which has a picture of Starman Bowie with a model steak pie with British flag in the foreground. Personally, I'm struggling with what steak pies have to do with Bowie... (?)

As an alternative to the one in the Plough on Saturday night that's on round 2 - although I'm sure that started as just being a group of single women going out for drinks. ;-)

Next EDF Drinks - This Friday - 6th March - Forest Hill Tavern
Applespider replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
I was a yes since had lots of fun last time but am now a 'no' since have a hot date. Then again, if it ends up so not hot, I might make the tail end. ;-) -
It is surprising how many of us are on Wood Vale. I wonder how many of you I've seen at the bus stop in the mornings unknowingly! I've had an N73, N95 and an iPhone on O2 without problems. Think it was an SEk750i that I had on Oraneg that was a bit pants in terms of coverage. Will agree to disagree on the Nokias - since they went to Symbian 60 on some of their phones, I find them more or less unusable particularly once all the networks load on their shortcuts etc on all the buttons so you can end up whooshing off to another screen while writing texts etc. Much happier with my iPhone these days!

Hope they catch the spitters although not entirely sure what they'll be able to charge them with? Would it be classed as assault? Can they ban them from buses? I've been spat at once and it was a horrible experience. It's always surprised me how much some people get riled up at the next bus driver to show up after a long wait. Since it's highly unlikely to be his fault (it's more likely to be a bus broken down, traffic or some other incident), why start ranting at the poor sod who is now actually going to get you home/to work/to shops?

Wales France on Friday 8pm (where in ED?)
Applespider replied to matthew123's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Damn... I'm at belated birthday drinks that I've already cancelled once. I'll send a cheer Wales way while necking vodka cocktails in a Polish bar. -
There's a place in Oregon called Wankers' Corner (think of a banker) Caused us much hilarity when we spotted it on a map while filling up the car on a road trip - unfortunately, it was 100 miles in the wrong direction to go and actually take a pic there

The Sloane Square Shared Use of the road experiment
Applespider replied to PeckhamRose's topic in The Lounge
I cross this most days since I work near Sloane Square and it really doesn't work well. Pedestrians assume since it's one pavement that they can just stroll across with right of way and taxis/cars assume they have right of way and barrel through without particularly slowing down. It's really not very clear what's going on. There's been no real education on it so until people become a bit more aware of the concept, I think we'll still see the tooting horns and people leaping out of the way on that stretch. -
Trains from East Dulwich; reliable?
Applespider replied to def's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've got a v useful app called 'Trains' on my iPhone which shows those live departure boards for a series of user-selected stations. It's immensely useful in the mornings -
what do single approaching 40's do in East Dulwich

Argh! I'm in Scotland this weekend and flying up on Friday night. I shall hope though that this is a wild success so I can come to event number 2! -
SteveT Wrote: > How many of the 'condemning' forum females have > arrived on a first date, in that condition? Nope, I've never arrived (or finished) any date in that condition and I don't think any of the 'condemning' females are suggesting that they condone her behaviour. But I'd like to think that whoever I was meeting, I wouldn't leave them passed out and not knowing whether they got home in one piece. I did mention that I wouldn't have expected jaybee to actually take her home but I don't think (at the point when she was still compis mentis - even if drunkly so) that trying to get her to call a friend would have been a bad idea. I have been in a similar situation where someone I only knew slightly ended up wasted towards the end of a boozy picnic. We started off calling a cab for her who refused to take her after she was sick so we did call a friend of hers who sorted out getting her home - and gave her hell for letting herself get into that state. I just hate the thought that one night I, or a close friend, might end up appearing out of it (perhaps if drinks are spiked etc) and something bad happens Then again, I tend to believe in paying it forward. I bought a train ticket at Waterloo on Friday night for a random stranger who'd lost his wallet.
-
She's got to take responsibility for getting into a state like that although you never know whether a drink in the previous place was spiked or they were all doubles so suddenly you are drunker than you thought. I do think abandoning her wasn't particularly nice although I wouldn't have expected you, on a first date, to take her all the way home. I suspect I'd have tried grabbing her phone and calling/texting a couple of her friends to say that she was in a bad way and they should come and help her home. If she was passed out, someone may have helped themselves to her purse, keys, phone so she might have a lot of trouble getting home later.

what do single approaching 40's do in East Dulwich
Applespider replied to miffy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yeah, I'd be up for some drinks with some like-minded women -
could this be the very thing she is looking for???

Bar Equal on Honor Oak Park (before it closed down) used to have two loos in one cubicle which was kinda bizarre - they weren't quite so closely spaced though! -
All that puzzles me about prams/buggies is that they used to be fairly small things that were easily folded up and didn't take up lots of room, got onto buses without problems and now many of them are the equivalent of a 4x4. Do people really go hiking over fields with their buggy that they need all these huge tyres that stick a foot out from the body of the buggy and are the bits that crack off ankles and block shop aisles? Now what does look like fun and what I regret wasn't invented when my little sis came along were the buggy boards. ;-)

Two weeks ago, it was 4.15pm. It might have moved closer to 4.30 now as the nights get lighter

I'm so disappointed. I thought this was going to be talking about the lovely Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted beer that I'm quite partial to.

Agree LP. I used margarine or spread for years since we were discouraged by media to eat butter. I threw out more half-tubs than I finished since it tasted foul on except in baking or when cooking. I moved back to butter a few years back and it's so much better. I don't eat a huge amount of it - everything in moderation I guess but it gives so much more flavour - wasn't aware of the grain/grass fed debate though. Will go off and look into it. I have a piece of lamb in the oven at the moment that I plan on serving alongside some new potatoes tossed in butter and some fresh broccoli and carrots. Yup, there's saturated fat in it (and probably more than I'll eat most other nights this week) but boy will it taste good. :)-D

Nothing that you actually like listening to normally. Otherwise, it becomes intrinsically linked to being bloody miserable and you'll never enjoy it quite as much again for years.

Peckham Rye Station - meet the managers
Applespider replied to Eileen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Eileen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > bigbadwolf Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Why is this meeting timed for when everyone who > > uses the station will be trying to get to or be > at > > work. Not very helpful. > > I thought that was deliberate - so that people > could stop by on their way in or out of the > station. It wasn't a 'meeting' - - more a drop in > on your way in and out (I thought). In that case, having it from 7.30 to 10.30 in future might be more useful since it's unlikely many commuters could drop by at 8.30, ask a question, get it answered and still make it upstairs to catch a train to get into the office for 9 particularly if they were heading for Victoria. Or do it in the evening from 5.30 to 7.30? Many people are rushing in the morning - they time their arrival at the station to catch their train so don't have the time to stop for a chat. Going home, they're more likely to be able to take a few minutes since buses come more frequently than trains and there's less pressure to be somewhere on time. -
Hmmm, cheese on toast. Love it with a dab of mustard on the toast before you melt the cheese...
