question about child maintenance
monniemae replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't know, but I do know that if the children spend any nights with him the amount he is expected to pay is reduced correspondingly. So two nights a week and he pays 5/7ths of the ?400 -

Food allergy advice for kids parties, halloween, etc?
monniemae replied to Saffron's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think there are only a handful of cadburys products that don't carry a nut warning. If it is for large functions and you take things out of the wrappers, as long as you identify what they are people may still choose whether to eat it. For instance my sister in law ignores all "may contain" warnings for herself, though wouldn't for her child. -

PS if you check with the parent they may say for instance that Goodies snacks are fine; we used to have to avoid everything with a nut warning but now know that goodies is safe for our lo -

Kinnerton is a nut-safe brand. They do chocolate lollies etc. Sainsburys sell some stuff, and possibly holland & barrett. Not sure about wheat, as we don't have that issue, but mrs crimble stuff (often in the free from aisle) are often good options. Are you catering for a child with allergies? Can you ask their parent what they recommend? Alternatively Allergy UK or Mumsnet allergy forum are good for advice -

Know of any taxi companies with child seats
monniemae replied to melv's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ah that's frustrating. Maybe google once you know the seat type on offer? The ones we've been provided with coincidentally matched what we have at home. -

We use British airport transfers and never had a problem. -

Does anyone have any experience of this? We have some small but growing cracks in our front bay, I definitely think it's sinking; it may be because of a massive, never-pruned tree that the council has neglected out front (we're in Lewisham borough). I'm unsure what to do - call the insurance company? But potentially have our house stamped with SUBSIDENCE and also possibly have to pay it ourselves? Or just find a builder (who?) or some other kind of specialist to try and fix the problem? What kind of cost are we talking?! Would appreciate any advice, feeling pretty stressed about it!

School pre-schools don't act as feeders for the schools as such - attending the school nursery has no bearing at all on whether your child will get a place in school reception.

Veggie chilli fritatta with sides of garlicky butter or cannellini beans (can mash up) Dahl made with red lentils (stir in yoghurt for protein and to take edge off chilli) Broccoli pesto pasta - cook broccoli, chilli, garlic, oil, mash up/blend and add parmesan/creme fraiche or other dairy, mix with pasta Quesadillas are great for little ones - dice or grate veg, add grated cheese, serve with guacamole/mashed avocado Pesto beans on toast - pesto and cannellini beans - easy and quick for babies Baked eggs / shakshuka - peppers, eggs, peppers, onions, tomatoes. Loads of recipes online

Carsten Holler @ Hayward - Suitable for a 10 year old?
monniemae replied to cactus's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went with a toddler, a 5 yr old and an 8r yr old last week and we all loved it. Be aware that you can't exit by the slides if you're under 4foot, which ruled out the 5yr old, and means an adult has to forgo the lift too as you can't re-enter after you've gone down the slide. We didn't bother with the trapeze as the kids would have had to wait around for absolutely ages as the adults queued. It is quite interactive though and there's a brilliant "upside down goggles" bit which the children loved. Personally, I couldn't move a millimetre with the goggles on but it was fun. We didn't get offered the pills.. -
Number 2 and anxiety in 3yr old boy

I downloaded an app called "poo goes to pooland" recently in prep for potty training as I've seen it recommended. Made by an NE NHS trust, seems pretty cute and my daughter loves the story. Worth a try maybe? -

Potty/toilet training advice
monniemae replied to yeknomyeknom's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Coco according to Oh Crap a lot of stuff we're told about "readiness" is a bit daft - from 18m she reckons they are ready. I hope she is right because my lo is only 22months! Her nursery suggested she was ready though as for a while she's been saying when her nappy is dirty, and her nappy can stay dry for a while between wees. But even if you didn't have these signs, oh crap is reassuring that you can still go ahead. -

What hours were you doing / are you looking for? That must make a difference to how appealing it would be to an employer. And, can you approach employers directly, or recruiters?

Hello, you can give your child whatever the hell surname you like. It doesn't matter what name you have or intend to have yourself, though the birth cert WILL reflect your existing legal name - unless you quickly change it by deed poll (you can do this online and I think it applies immediately, but check). My partner and I registered our daughter with a different surname to either of us - no one cared, it's completely legal. And congratulations :)

Greenwich has finished and it is WONDERFUL. We go q often and it is significantly different and improved - lots of wooden climbing frames etc that weren't there before. It's the same layout though

No car. Fun days out in London with young kids? IDEAS??
monniemae replied to dibden's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If you do want to go to Kew (and by train via Clapham Junction or Waterloo it's pretty easy) definitely go via train to get the 2for1 ticket deal - in fact we found the national rail 2for1 site a great way to get ideas for london! Check it out here http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/ -
Travelling with a child with a different surname
monniemae replied to slh2009's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My daughter has a different surname to both I and her father; we got to america fine at christmas but it caused some confusion on the way back through Heathrow until we showed the birth certificate. Not a big deal though, we always travel with it. -
I am crushed by household admin this year and cannot face trawling any more for holiday ideas. Can anyone recommend anywhere brilliant they've stayed with small children? We want to go away for a week in September, ideally to Spain on the Costa Brava, or Greece though we've never been, or Mallorca or similar. We're a family of two adults and one toddler. Budget up to ?750 pw depending on flights. Prefer self catering though open to options. Any suggestions?! Thanks in advance... and sorry for sheer cheek of laziness...
