  1. I just thought that after all the effort you went to to help me out, I'd let you know what i ended up doing. So, on Saturday, ended up treating Dad to a day 'up town' as he calls it. Imperial War Museum in the morning (brill, could have stayed there all day) followed by a late lunch in Covent Garden and then the pub to watch the rugby. Good fun, just a shame we lost the match! LLx
  2. Hi Ellikp, Whatever you do, delete their number from your phone. By all means keep it hidden somewhere out of arms reach for emergencies, but don't have it at your disposal. I've recently done this, only one year too late, and now have to live with the cringeworthy drunken sent messages and his dialled number at 2am. Just pathetic. Not me at all either which is the worst thing about it. Just keep yourself busy. And as they say, the best way to get over a guy/gal is to get under another one. You quickly forget. LLxx
  3. Thanks again everyone. I emailed Dulwich & Sydenham golf Club at the end of last week to enquire. If don't hear by lunch I'll give them a call. Steve T - trouble with my Dad is, despite me being almost 30, if we went out for the day he wouldn't let me put my hand in my pocket (despite insisting) :-$ so I figure the best thing is to get him something he can open! Mark - the weather station idea is great!! WOD - upgrading equipment would be a good idea but might keep in mind for next Crimbo. Bit depressing getting new ski gear if you're not going again for another year!
  4. Thanks for all your helpful replies, it's helped relieve some of the pressure! I'll report back with the results. LLx
  5. No of course. It's a great deal especially if nice lunch included, and I hear the view from the course is good? I'm definitely swinging in that direction (geddit)... Walking pole - hmmm good idea, but he could poss have one already...risky.
  6. Hello, and thanks for all your responses! He's already going to the rugby at Twickers on 6th for England/Wales. Is there anyway you can get tickets upgraded to include access to one of the bars/restaurants/suites - or am I barking up the wrong tree? Otherwise I am so far thinking Vinopolis (as we can go together - doubly beneficial :-)) or a round of golf although surely i've really got to buy two tickets). I think the Wine Society, although a lovely idea, would be a bit wasted on him and he already has that DVD of the Lions Tour, as I seem to remember having to sit through it at Christmas.
  7. Thanks for that, but seriously, you haven't seen the back of his garage. Every tool under the sun (he's in the trade).
  8. Hello, It's my dad's birthday next week. Every year, for Christmas and birthdays, he is presented with the same boring old stuff (for Christmas - book, CD, bottle of wine, 'casual' rugby top). I am as guilty of buying this as the next person but just never have a clue what to get. Poor bloke. He will be turning 61. Likes: golf (playing) rugby (watching not playing) skiing (but just been) wine (slightly more than he should) whiskey (but he's forbidden unless mum's away) walking (annual trip to the Lakes) He is of the 'don't get me anything, I don't need it' kind of mindset. I have a ?50 budget. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! LLx
  9. Ah yes forgot about his mate that got beaten up. Thanks guys, hopefully won't need to ask any more questions about the plot! :-$ I'm already becoming attached to Bubbs...god he's going to die isn't he.
  10. Hello, I've just started watching the 1st Season of The Wire and although initially a little bit put off by friends who'd given up at the ghost after a couple of episodes, I feel like I'm coping, and am beginning to relax into it! However, can someone just answer one question for me. I am now about to start Episode 6, and still not entirely sure how Bubbs got involved in helping out McNulty/Kima. Also, in the first episode you saw him using and since then haven't really. Can someone explain, or am I not meant to know this yet?! Thanks, LL.
  11. Don't suppose anyone has any idea what Tulse Hill is like at the moment?
  12. Hello all, Could anyone give me an idea of the going rate for a babysitter on NYE? I don't want to charge extortionate amounts but also want it to be worth my while. Many thanks, LL x

  14. I think it's by David Nicholls. From memory (read it about 5 years ago), it delved into uni life a bit more and all the things that you might get up to (cliches but pretty much spot on). Also focused a bit more on the relationship between the main guy (can't remember his name - James McAvoy) and his friends from back home in Essex. One of my favourite books.
  15. I really liked the film, but i'd urge you to read the book perhaps if you haven't seen the film yet. It is one of the funniest things i've ever read in my life.
  16. Well good for you Sandperson! I'm not going to comment further as i'm getting wound up.
  17. Growlybear et al, no you are not insured if you leave your car unattended with the engine running, however I imagine that this is the last thing going through someone's mind as they run a couple of yards to post a letter or carry out an activity which takes seconds. I completely sympathise with the lady in question. I probably would have done exactly the same in her situation. It's just really bad luck/timing. 'and can't imagine any circumstances that would ever make me leave my keys in the car, with or without the engine running.' Really? Not one situation?
  18. Monetarily, ?50 per guest seems about the going rate at the moment (wedding number 5 this year tomorrow). More if you're direct family etc. Wedding lists/honeymoon funds certainly make life easier and help out people who have absolutely no imagination (like me), however there is definitely nowhere to hide when it comes to finding out how generous you are.
  19. You would think it was from the way they start crying that they miss home after 2 days!
  20. I usually really enjoy it and totally agree with Pickle about A&D. I just don't think I can watch it with what's her name in my face for two weeks :-(
  21. He was by far the least annoying out of all of them last night.

  23. The best bit by far is them jumping out of the plane then I tend to lose interest. I then saw that ITV have sunk to an all-time low by inviting that ***** Jordan back on it. I can't think of anything worse than listening to her witter on about how normal/honest/down-to-earth/low-maintenance she is, how she doesn't care what people think etc. So why are you going on it to try and salvage your reputation then love? I shall therefore be tuning out from now on.
