  1. Sadly Sue there were shoe prints in the flower bed and muddy footprints on the path. Can't put this one down to the foxes.
  2. Not always in pots?..I had some plants dug up from my front garden last year. They were nothing special so I was amazed to see the holes in the ground one morning. Digging up people's plants overnight - just low !! Doing some planting at the moment. Hopefully they'll survive someone's passing fancy.
  3. Well spook studio - spooky just had the very mossy north facing deck jet washed today by a seemingly reliable guy. He's got a wood laying company and he's recently done a good job of 'sorting out' a tired wooden floor. PM me if you want his details.
  4. I have an engineered oak floor. Only 3 years old but a recent greasy spill (splatters travel far !)has left marks that I can't remove. Also some wear and tear in high traffic area. Any recommendations for someone to probably sand and polish floor ? This will need to be delicately done otherwise would probably try to do ourselves. Thanks
  5. Thumbs up from me too. Reasonable prices (compared to buying new chairs!). Great, friendly service. Recommend !
  6. Hi Title says it all really. Don't want to got through Bosch. Thanks, Marigoolds

  8. Sweetgirl, At 12.07 (as police noted the time) I was driving down Forest Hill Road and was almost hit full-on by a white/silver speeding car on the wrong side of the road i.e.. coming at me. He overtook a learner driver going towards Francesca Cabrini and took the front of his car off. The white/silver car was being chased by unmarked police cars. I stopped to give the driving instructor my details as a witness. The helicopter was pretty low at this point. Plain clothed police came pretty quickly. The poor learner was pretty shaken up. The driver wasn't stopping for anyone. I thank god that I didn't come round the corner a second or two later as he was driving like a maniac. He could've caused mayhem with pedestrians, cyclists or maniac. Only when I got back in the car did I realise what a near-miss we'd all had !
  9. Maybe a little late ...There is a food bank collection point in Honor Oak in an old furniture shop called 'whitewood furniture' (?). If name not correct it is across the road from the train station. I've driven past morning and evening and noted posters but couldn't tell you when it is open.
  10. Alan Medic 'I'm amazed all you appear to be concerned about is what was stolen'. I don't think Slater and I are solely concerned about what is being stolen. We both seem concerned about the emotional and social impact on children at the receiving end of these spineless acts. When saying my son was relieved of 45p I was trying to convey the impact of an older group of boys surrounding a small 12 year old boy on a bus all for a few pence. He was shaken up and upset. I really don't care about what was being taken. Slater and I both report telling our kids to hand over their things rather than fight back. These people know this is what our kids are advised to do. However re-reading the last 2 posts makes it obvious why bullies and thieves are hanging around certain parks for easy-pickings. So Alan Medic I guess it does make sense to give some background to what is taken. Actually the more I think of it how dare someone take a phone and a bike off a child/teen ? It probably won't be for the thief's use but to be sold on for a few paltry pounds whilst Slater's son and others worry about being safe on their own in the future ! Hope all our kids have a safe summer and a good time hanging out in their local park.
  11. Alan Medic 'Sweeties ?'. Not funny, just flippant and insensitive. 'Robbing kids of what ?' As you ask they were probably after the phones and small change that the older kids carry. My youngest child (12 years old) was 'relieved' of 45p on the bus last week and was the subject of an attempted mugging several weeks before that whilst walking home from school, co-incidently on Court Lane. Although we have told our kids to give whatever items are being demanded by 'muggers' it is still stessful, scary and out of their comprehension. All secondary school-aged kids have mobile phones now so that we parents can contact or be contacted by them. Unfortunately a minority believe they have the right to take these phons away from kids by force or the threat of force. Some idiots brandishing a sword (or not) intimidating kids is out of order - I know I'd be pretty freaked out ! My secondary school-aged kids spend a lot of time in the park with their friends. Please be sensitive to people who have been the victims of this type of incident. Getting mugged seems to be a right of passage for kids now, particularly boys. Marigolds

It is obviously about revenue as they fine > rather than explain/give warning. Stoo wrote: They are always completely clear unless you can't read English. Also I don't think it is a parking wardens job to stand by parking bays and inform ignorant drivers that they can't park there. You don't get warnings because its patently obvious when you are parking illegally. To clarify Stoo, I can read English. I pulled up there recently when the bus lane was being dug up due to gas mains work. Didn't know there were restrictions = agree with Pearl it is not always clear. At 16.00 went across to Plough DIY asked for something not in stock. Back to car at 16.02 and I had a ticket from the guy who was sitting in his unmarked car outside the Bombay Bicycle Club. His being hidden just seemed so calculating. We all know that the sight of a warden makes you very cautious so had I any inkling he was there then he wouldn't have had the chance to issue another cash penalty ! I wasn't stopping the flow of bus traffic - any bus would have ended up in hole in road had it continued ! It was a clear case of revenue raising. James Barber says this not an issue but it seems there are a number of us who've been done but not started a thread. I'm all in favour of traffic control but we all know when wardens spot a 'target-hitting hotspot'. Can't we tip other people off when we have made a mistake without other people getting uptight. Drivers, bus-users, pedestrians and cyclists all make mistakes at some point. Happy New Year and be careful where you park. Marigolds

TJ Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I just love this forum and how people love to get involved in something that they have no experience of and regularly miss the original point. People with more time than me I guess. > Ok - from the start, you're not familiar with this school or this problem, so what are you doing on this thread? Yes, the school is from 4yrs+ and some parents have 2 children. amazing huh? Opening another entrance. You will no doubt be aware that this is a very old school, and if an opportunity for a whole new entrance was needed, someone else in the last 130 years might have thought of it? Do excuse my complete lack of patience.. My flippant posting was made after reading the stroppy comments that you made to Trinity. Who are you to pass judgement on who may or may not post on an issue ? Calm down and maybe take a different route thus avoiding Doris from 'dahn the road' !!

To me that is much more > worrying than bad parking on a bad day. ??? It's bad parking every day not your bad parking on your bad day. Arriety, probably best not to make assumptions about our understanding of others lives. This is a thread about parking around a primary school so let's remember that there are 'parking restrictions'. We live in a community where we all need to get kids into school safely and general public need to be able to get past their local school.
  15. Sounds like Trinity touched a nerve with TJ ! Schools have Walking to School initiative. Let mini TJ's (for there are 2 let's not forget) put their hands up to say they have walked when teachers ask how they got to school (even if it is only the 200m from where TJ parks the car). Schools have to have a travel plan and hassled parents blocking surrounding roads won't tick any boxes. If the 'local' parents who have to drive to school leave 10 minutes earlier and implement the above suggestion everyone should be happy including residents who live around Goodrich and also need to get into work (see above posts about employers not taking account of having to get children to school) Also TJ don't think Goodrich School has been unrepresented on this thread :))
  16. Rosie H - Don't think anyone disputes that there are good local independant shops but they can't cater for the numbers that pass through a supermarket. Lovely as it may be to hark back to days unlived by most of us ie.pre-supermarket days when peole had time to go from shop to shop on a high street, the reality of living in a suburb of a capital city is that supermarkets are a necessary evil. We'd get pretty fed up waiting to pay in the lovely Andreas' (next to Chener books) as local residents bought their milk, bread and loo roll. Guess the owners would be happy though ! Yes most of us (let's not be smug, not all !) can get to Sainsbury's but why can't we have a more efficient small supermarket on the main road? Supermarkets aplenty ? Not sure about where they are and not asking for more. Just better service than the one enjoying pole position on LL.
  17. Snorky - your posts are always so enriching. Thought forum was for all users with opinions boring or otherwise. Tip of the day: Avoid 'boring' threads by looking at message list and choosing not to open. Simple !
  18. Lenk, not one to normally post but do think that eater81 has a point and I'm feeling very calm - no risk of aneurysm. We probably spend more time than we need to in that supermarket - 1 use Somerfield near work and never face these queues. It's a local issue so why mock people for expressing concerns ? Recently queues are really long andslow. Somerfield have a monopoply on LL and I think the area management could ensure staffing levels are adequate. Re shopping elsewhere: where are you suggesting at 7 o'clock onwards - some people getting in from work/ or need to nip out for necessities and need to do a bit of shoppping without having to jump in car, on bus or bike? Why can't LL have an efficiently run supermarket for the busy community? There are enough of us making it a goldmine already. Don't have an preferance for which supermarket it is but just want that can offer us something more efficiently run. ps. why do they have that whole aisle dedicated to dodgy ssndwiches, snack packs and pasta salads that always seems to be full due to customers voting with their eyes and not buying - put self-serve tills there ( I know they weren't always working but maybe the technology has moved on a bit since the last attempt). Just some idle thoughts......
  19. You may have seen this post on other sections - I'm new to how this all works. Anyway ........ Not exactly an East Dulwich-wide issue but wondered if anyone can give me advice on looking after new born rabbits. 6 born last Friday and found 2 dead in hutch this morning. Hutch has been inside to keep them warm. Leaving mum to feed them. Dad not in with them. Have looked on internet but it is a whole strange world out there in bunny owner land -would welcome some common sense advice ! I have posted on the wanted/offered section so please take a look if you're interested. Thanks
