Hypnobirthing - has anyone tried this?
nina_maniana replied to kayla81's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I did 'hypnobirthing' both times I was in labour. It's just about finding a dark little corner of your mind you can go off to where the pain doesn't phase you as much. Looked it up online but didn't feel I needed any courses or anything to crack it. -
*strange incident - please read if you have a family*

How disturbing. Although - what does an Albanian person look like? And how do Albanians look different to other people from Southeastern Europe...? -

Can anyone recommend a good catering company to cater for a private party on a Saturday in July? Food for 50+, not a sit down meal, so something like a barbecue or a buffet or bowl food. Aware you get what you pay for with this stuff but I'd rather not spend the earth if anyone has any ideas of catering options they've tried which haven't been too expensive. Thanks lovely people!!!

Fun times at Dulwich Leisure Centre on Friday...
nina_maniana replied to redjam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would have thought with rape convictions as pathetically low as ever, ongoing gender pay gap and women murdered in acts of domestic violence every single day, the feminists would have bigger fish to fry than worrying which changing room people are going to use. Personally I don't imagine there are huge ranks of men queuing up to self identify as female given it's (out of the two options available) pretty much the crummier option. Good luck to em. Enjoy a lifetime of sexual harassment, getting overlooked in your career, comments about your weight and clothing choices from strangers etc, etc, etc. -
Thanks all - so helpful! Feeling really inspired. The distance is a little over 8k which i know i can do quite easily from runs on the weekend, i?m just a bit nervous of traffic and fumes!

Newly SAHM seeking buddies for playdates!
nina_maniana replied to overcaffeinated's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I just saw this - our winter babies club started on this forum is still alive and kicking, and there are lots of stay at home mums or parents who work part time on it, and loads of meet ups. Our babies are all 2 so a little older. It?s all through facebook, the group is called ?east dulwich winter babies club 2015/2016?, look it up and send a request and anna will add you. Also are you into fitness at all? It?s a bit out there but i go to some women?s only boxing classes which you can bring your child to and are a great way to meet other mums as the classes are very sociable. Training with pads, no punching each other! -
Maternity at Kings and St Thomas
nina_maniana replied to Calvert's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Both labours at kings. Both of them complicated for reasons not the fault of the hospital. The second one i probably would have died if i wasn?t at kings which is a major trauma centre. We all want lovely natural births, but the test of a hospital is how they respond if things go wrong and for that kings is unbeatable. Good luck xxx -

Brick House Cafe "is not a creche"
nina_maniana replied to Nigello's topic in Request a Tradesperson
NewWave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm totally on the side of the Brick-House and > what a sniveling s**t the mother was who ran to > the press about this. Regardless of your opinion on babies in coffee shops, this is an unfair point. The press picked up on the comments made by thr mother?s friend on social media. From what i can see, no one involved has commented or spoken to the press at all. With regards the point about parents of young children in coffee places, it?s hard to empathise but being a new mother is a very isolating experience. When my eldest was tiny, weekly meet ups with other parents in a place like this were my only contact with other adults. As the kids get older you can take them to playgroups etc but when they are tiny there is a limit to what you can fo with them, especially when the weather is foul. -
Loving this class - great, high intensity workout and brilliant to be able to bring the baby too. Simone is a great instructor with bags of energy, making the class a lot of fun as well as a great workout!

Hi all I'm hosting a hen party at my house in October. I'm interested in booking a mixologist to come round for the afternoon and make some nice cocktails for my mates - does anyone know of anyone who would do this kind of thing? We can provide the booze or even better if they could bring the gear to set up a little cocktail bar for us! Thanks xxx

Recommended custom made wardrobes, bookshelves, cupboards
nina_maniana replied to AK's topic in Request a Tradesperson
A second recommendation for Kestas. He did a fabulous job building some wardrobes and cupboards for us, we gave him the job having seen such positive feedback here. Really nice guy and very high quality craftsmanship. Happy to PM pictures. -
Nanny Share Advice Needed
nina_maniana replied to louise.flynn's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Most nannies in ED will expect between ?12 - ?15 an hour net based on 2 children sharing (more for additional kids). This is net you pay to them each week, then you pay taxes on top. So your half would be ?6 an hour at the lower end, plus taxes would bring it up to about ?8.50 an hour in total. It's an expensive option, even sharing, but has worked very well for us. 25 days paid annual leave (plus bank holidays) is also standard. -
I reckon it's all about being on a tube line if you want better transport as with the train if there's a cancellation or you miss one you are straight away pushed back 10 / 15 mins until the next one. Then there are the issues with congestion at London Bridge. You could do Forest Hill or Sydenham, then at least you're on the overground. Or else south bit of the northern line to be further south than the morning crushes. Maybe Tooting. Problem is if you want an area as nice as dulwich but on the tube you're going to have to pay ???. Anyway you're not the only one who thinks about moving - I've taken to getting the bus to work every day as at least it's a vaguely reliable commute although it takes me an hour and a half each way. 3 hours a day round commute or 15 hours a week is kind of soul crushing when you think about it.

Man in balaclava on Crystal Palace Road
nina_maniana replied to GtotheD4's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
"You don't consider it threatening - or at least suspicious - behaviour?" << Not enough I'd call the police about it! Perhaps the person was cold. Perhaps they had a facial deformity or scarring or a regrettable facial tattoo they were embarassed about and wanted to hide. Perhaps they had an injury which was covered in bandages under the balaclava. Perhaps the person was a fundamentalist muslim who's burka was in the wash and she needed to cover her face to nip out to the shops. Either way I don't think the good residents of East Dulwich need to be contemplating vigilante action any time soon :-) -
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a person or company to source and replace a first floor window for me? It used to be a bathroom window and I just need replacing with a normal bedroom window. Nothing fancy, I'm on a tight budget! Thanks xx

I didn't realise it was against any law to wear a balaclava. -
Hello, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced local carpenter? I would like a built in wardrobe and desk combo constructed. Thanks xx
