  1. Nando'S?! This is the beginning of the end for Lordship Lane.
  2. Great shop, well deserved recognition.
  3. Surely BP has CCTV recordings?
  4. I really hope you have reported this to the police. A scratch is bad enough but the perpetrator must be stopped before they harm someone even more seriously.
  5. Build a barrier. As a local politician once said, if I lived there i would want a barrier too.
  6. James Barber has repeatedly confirmed that the council are not going to anything about the pavements on Lordship Lane unless the landowners there handover their privately owned forecourts.
  7. Does anyone know how much Le Chardon was sold for?
  8. Sounds like it is not going to work out for you Dadof4 and both parties might be better off without you popping in again.
  9. Is The Coal Line dependent on acquiring privately owned land then?
  10. I guess they are on site responsible for one pub and greg as "area manager" sits above them responsible for several m and b pubs. On the chain pub post above i actually think m and b have got it right with their castle brand. Generally in other castle pubs I have found the food good and the drinks selection varied enough. Ok the sunday roast is the same in all of them but so it is in all the antic pubs. If you're running more than one pub of course your suppliers are the same for all of them. Even gordon ramsay served exactly the same food cooked in the same kitchen across his pub chain.
  11. "Under the deal, revealed in Friday?s Standard, GTR, Southern?s parent company, offered its 1,000 drivers a pay increase of 23.8 per cent over four years ? taking basic salaries for the existing 35-hour, four-day week from ?49,001 to ?60,683. Most drivers work a regular fifth day as overtime and for that they receive an additional 25 per cent pay, taking the fourth-year salaries to more than ?75,000." http://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/southern-drivers-reject-75000-pay-deal-and-reinstate-overtime-ban-a3568026.html
  12. Penguin I think when the news recently reported on Southern drivers turning down the proposed ?75,000 a year pay packet it was mentioned that salary was based on working a 4 day week and one day of overtime.
  13. Rehearsal for their carnival? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,1836739
  14. Emily's on North Cross Road is all right.
  15. I found cheap beer in the Flying Pig at happy hour where they have ?1 off a pint between 5 and 7pm on weekdays
  16. 29p to move one from outside your house to outside someone elses's house seems ok to me!
  17. Thanking the driver is very polite but might encourage some drivers to think they have the right not stop. They don't, they must give way to pedestrians.
  18. You are obliged under the highway code to approach a zebra crossing with caution and be ready to stop or slow down and let pedestrians cross. If there had been an accident on the crossing in the circumstances described in the OP, the driver of the car would have been at fault.
  19. Thanks RCH that is very informative and helpful. Do you know why the council are so keen to take control of privately owned forecourts? It seems that they are holding the public to ransom over this aapprent land grab!
  20. There has been one outside the Dulwich Leisure Centre for over a week now which seems particularly obnoxious given the parking pressure there.
  21. The difference between the bridges and places like parliament square is that the traffic lights all around parliament square, the oval etc, and all the associated traffic congestion make it impossible to get a car up to the sorts of lethal speeds the terrorists managed to achieve on Westminster and London Bridges. To say that the barricades will have "little if any real effect on public safety," is nonsense. Let's see how many more terrorists attacks are carried out in London by driving a car across a bridge and into a crowed of pedestrian. I think you know that it simply won't happen ever again because of these measures.
  22. Every other business in the area pays business rates. That is effectively what he car club parking bay charge is. by parking for free outside the bays avis get to use our streets to run their business without paying the tax the rest of our local businesses pay. If I was another car club operator I would not pitch for the bays knowing Avis can park and rent their cars wherever they want. If no other car clubs take up the bays because of this then the whole scheme is at the whim of avis.
  23. I think it must be, if they are "circumventing" paying charges and are losing their relationship with Southwark.
  24. The local authority have confirmed it on this thread Martin... "Posted by James Barber Today, 11:25AM Hi PandG, Southwark charges Zipcars a great deal of money for each formal and reserved parking space for Zipcar. Effectively a tax on people car sharing. It would make lots of sense for car sharing organisations to find a way of circumventing this. Southwark are also going to market again for their car sharing relationship. This would add extra pressure to insure against the loss of this relationship by Zipcar. " How they expect to negotiate a new deal with someone else while allowing zipcar to park for free anywhere they like is beyond me.
