I was having a chat to him a few weeks ago when I was getting my hair cut. Seems it's an issue of rising rents. He's planning to do mobile hairdressing (home visits) in the East Dulwich area. He gave me one of his cards which I'll try to dig out.

There's also a slower and more expensive option, however, it's positively luxurious and very reliable. The Thames Clipper (river boat) from London Bridge to Canary Wharf. I used to get it every now and then as a treat. It has a Costa on board for a morning coffee and a licensed bar in the evenings for beer and wine. It's great sitting out in the sun at the back of the boat on a summer morning.

I noticed at the weekend that East Dulwich Food & Wine on ED Road was closed, had no stock and was having the windows replaced. Does anyone know what the plans are for it? A simple refurb or has it changed hands?

I like it. My fear was initially that it's a little bit too much style over substance but it's a massive improvement on the Rose. I do miss the old ceiling though. I feel it may be a bit unfair, but there was something that put me off a little. - The wood burners churn out a lot of smoke, but there's nowhere for it to go. I was in the garden, not under the covered bit, for about five minutes and I absolutely reeked of wood smoke. Hair, skin, clothes, everything. I don't know what the solution is but there must be a way to pipe it out. Didn't shower before sleeping and my sheets and pillow stank of smoke by morning too. Luckily it's not too unpleasant a smell, but it is strong.

Why the no real ale in bold above? Their website says the following: "Beer, we?ve got beer. Twenty taps to choose from. Will that do you? An amazing 12 taps are devoted to craft beer, including 8 on rotation. These will be split equally between local breweries and the best that the global scene has to offer. The huge range of craft cans and bottles will be available to take away at a discounted price. There?ll also be six hand pull pumps for cask ales and cider, again serving a constantly rotating selection."

Opening day tomorrow. Looks like a lot of progress has been made. Also looked to me that there is now a huge tent in the garden. Exciting.

There's a huge banner outside the pub. It's to be called Watson's General Telegraph. At least I think it is. I went past pretty quickly. I did notice that the bar is gone. The space looks enormous. It's due to open on 28 January 2016. I can only imagine the 63 and 363 buses will be updating their bus stop announcements in the next few weeks.

Blinds have been taken off the windows, so if you're passing you can have a look at the progress inside.

Peckham Rye has the Overground to Canada Water and a Thameslink service, that while busy, isn't as bad as the Herne Hill option. There's also Honor Oak Park station toward the SE corner of East Dulwich. I've been using it recently and the service to London Bridge has been fine. It also has a second Overground route for trips to the City. The beauty of being able to access both Honor Oak Park station and East Dul/Peckham Rye is that when waiting for a train at London Bridge you can choose either route and take whichever train is leaving next. It effectively means there are eight+ trains an hour that will take you home.

My son is registered there and I have had a mixed experience. The clinical staff are great, the midwifery team superb and on the whole the practice staff are ok. They've always been accommodating when it comes to booking an appointment but there is certainly room for improvement. One example was taking my little one in as a one year old and having to wait for over an hour as the reception staff had forgotten to let the practice nurse know we had arrived. I understand that there are thousands of contributing factors to the difficulties faced by GPs. Not least that the NHS simply doesnt have the capacity to truly be a health service. It's become an illness treatment service. Having spent a fair amount of time working in the NHS over the last year, I can also say that I've been surprised by my experience of GP focus being so heavily weighted toward renumeration and financial incentive as opposed to patient care. I won't say that's the case everywhere as that would be unfair but from what I've seen in one specific borough it certainly caught me off guard.

There are lots of stories that do the rounds about how the pub is run and why it seems to be struggling. From a personal perspective, every time I've gone in over the last year, they simply don't have any beer in. Usually Guiness and one lager. The bar staff can never say why they don't have more nor say when they'll get more in. So I don't go in any more. It's a shame as the food has always been pretty good.

I would recommend Michael from Dulwich Driving School. Very patient, well priced and a great source of local knowledge. He's very relaxed and informal so you will likely have lots of interesting conversations that put you at ease.

I miss the old Magdala. I used to hang out there as a 17 year old in 1998. Under ?2 a pint. Barman pouring your drink the moment you walked in the door. Run down, tatty, but it felt like ours. Now it's like every other pub everywhere.

Luck. Partner and I both owned small flats that had risen significantly in value. We were able to sell them and buy a three-bed in East Dulwich that needed serious work. It didn't have central heating, a shower or a kitchen to speak of. Walls were falling down and carpets hadn't been changed since the 70s. Two years on, we've just about finished major work internally.

Keen Group. Used to use Dulwich Cars and Carol Cars and have the old numbers memorised. They've both been bought out by the Keen Group and so I've been inadvertently been using them for years as the numbers now forward to the KG. Always excellent.

I'm currently learning to drive. A mere 15 years after turning 17. I quite like the 20 zone and as a driver have known no different. I am however, acutely aware that other drivers don't seem to pay the new limit much heed. If I'm pootling along at a law-breaking 23mph, I'm still regularly overtaken or tail-gated by other drivers. I can almost hear them screaming 'bloody learner driver - get it up to 30'. Next time I might stop and let them know that our speed limits are put in place to save lives and improve road traffic safety. No doubt I'll be cheered and carried shoulder high. Huzzah.

The DIY shop on the corner of Forest Hill Road and Dunstans Road has now closed. That means four empty shops in a very small area. Laundrette, bookies, DIY shop and dentist. Will be very interesting to see what it all becomes.
