  1. Sorry, was making a point about there being alternative views, not trying to put anyone off their bacon sarnie!
  2. Just as I wouldn't go to Philip Morris' website to find out about the risks of smoking, not sure I'd take "BaconToday" as my gospel of the benefits or otherwise of bacon! "Bacon, ham and sausages rank alongside cigarettes as a major cause of cancer, the World Health Organisation has said, placing cured and processed meats in the same category as asbestos, alcohol, arsenic and tobacco. The report from the WHO?s International Agency for Research on Cancer said there was enough evidence to rank processed meats as group 1 carcinogens because of a causal link with bowel cancer."
  3. Oh, well if that's the case maybe you have got a good case - like I said, I'm no expert. It would depend on whether an agreement to refund money constitutes a contract, wouldn't it, rather than an offer - I wouldn't have thought it was as cut and dried as that. Small claims court is interesting - went this year and won against Aspect plumbers for an incompetent job - but bear in mind you have to pay fees (I think it was about ?110) which you won't get back if you lose, and the defendants may be able to claim for expenses incurred as a result of the claim.
  4. I'm willing to stand corrected by a qualified person, which I'm not, but I'd say unfortunately a signed contract trumps any non-witnessed undertaking she might have made (unless you have an email saying take him out and we'll refund? It sounds like her emails came after though). You might have a case in small claims if you can demonstrate that some deficiency on their part made it unconscionable for you to leave your son there, but otherwise I fear they have the upper hand.

Don't eat meat myself but dieting friends have gone for Sainsbury's smoked bacon medallions - grilled they're only 65 calories per two slices and 50% less fat than standard bacon.

No, the loser is wiped out - neither Clinton or Trump are the leader of their respective parties. The opposition to the President will be led by the leaders of the losing party in the senate and congress (who may quite possibly hold a majority, especially if Clinton wins - it's as if we voted for PM then had an entirely separate election for our MPs).
  7. There was a terrifying interview just over a week ago on PM with Tony Schwartz, who co-wrote (or according to him actually just wrote) The Art of the Deal with Trump. Think it's available of listen again. Well worth it. In an interview with The Guardian, Schwartz said: [A Trump presidency could, he warns, lead to martial law, the end of press freedom and the risk of nuclear war:] ?Staggeringly dangerous. Worse than I imagined when he began to run. Unthinkable. Horrifying. He?s way more out of control in the last couple of months than I?ve ever seen him. He doesn?t have any core beliefs beyond his own aggrandisement and power.?
  8. Another American gem:
  9. Beautiful. Love the ABs but great for world rugby to see that they're not invincible. Also excellent to see a 61,000 seat US venue sold out for a game of rugby!
  10. Purely speculatively, a national trainwreck which will make Suez look a triumph of careful planning and common sense. Whatever side one voted, it's obvious we're totally ill-prepared and have no real idea how we're going to get out of the EU with anything approaching a decent trade agreement - these things can take decades to negotiate, the conceit that we can knock one together between now and March is ludicrous - as is the idea that we'll now be free to negotiate hugely advantageous deals with non-EU nations. Someone the other day was pointing out that people say we'll be like Switzerland, negotiating deals on our own terms. What happened with Switzerland and China? China has said right, your market is worth $X to us, and out market is worth $XXXX to you. So, the agreement is we'll have free access to your market for fifteen years, at the end of which we'll reciprocate. Yes, we're bigger than Switzerland, but we're a lot smaller than China. It's going to be a mess.

As he pointed out today himself, he's not officially #1 until Monday - if he were to be disqualified from the final tomorrow for bad behaviour all his points from this event would be forfeited and he would remain #2. He promised to be on his best behaviour and keep his racquet in hand!

It wasn't that great a story to be honest, once you're past "I talked to Hank Wangford about Gram Parsons" you've pretty much got the gist. ;-)
  13. Damnation and I had a good story about talking to Hank Wangford about Gram Parsons to share...oh well, another time...

Yeah regretting my earlier attempt to pour oil on troubled waters (is there anything which can't start controversy on here?!) I'll be bringing sweets!

That usually scares them off. They > have vile beliefs about homosexuality. A gay friend of mine used much the same line to some "born agains" who came knocking and they told him that was why Jesus had guided them to his door, to show him the error of his ways and save him from eternal damnation. His reply wouldn't get through the filters on here, I fear.
  16. As there's such a heartening swell of goodwill towards the idea of EDF members giving something for the children's wards, why don't we ask King's what they think would be best?
  17. Tempting...is it mainly middle aged men drinking ale and talking about guitars? Because that would be ideal, I'll have to get a lot more proper practice in though!

Retuning is a bind, but I managed to con Mrs.H that I need two acoustics, one to keep in standard and one open, plus I also have a Variax electric which can switch tunings at the turn of a knob.

Yeah, Mick says he wrote it based on what she said when coming round after a suicide attempt, but Keef says he wrote it about missing his newborn son, others say Gram Parsons...just shows what lots of drugs mixed with some combative egos can do! Open tunings are superb fun, great for playing Stones licks and acoustically great for blues.

Contentious! I know that's been rumoured but on the other hand Keef's very detailed in "Life" about how and why he wrote it.
  21. Excellent can you put a reminder up when you start collecting please?

  23. Sounds great, would certainly be up for making a contribution - where can we drop them?
  24. Not to mention really easy to play in open G, makes poor guitarists (me) sound pretty good.

Awkward Knee's OP states s/he's informed Southwark, spoken to the foreman, told Heber School about it and tried to contact the building company. Which is all highly admirable and civic minded and doesn't really fall into the "waffling" category.
