Neo Nazi poster in Peckham Rye Park (Lounged)
rendelharris replied to Kennynotken's topic in The Lounge
sidebirds Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > rendelharris Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > "all my working class friends" - > > rather 'inclusive' of you ! I'm not really sure what that means - I assume it's some sort of dig? Just objecting to Peckhamguy's absurd statement that "the true working class who has never had nothing handed to them on a plate the ones who actually see the real world" would agree with him - plenty of my mates fit that description and don't think neo-nazis are OK. -

It's not snobbish to object to someone saying that a neo-nazi website that talks about killing Jews and "Pakis" etc is not a problem and all true. And flaunt your supposed working class credentials all you like, the working classes have always fought against fascism - certainly all my working class friends would despise everything you've said and would tell you so extremely forcefully. "You mostly know nothing about the issue, study it check it out properly then come back" - you mean if we go and have a better look at the phrase "Zero tolerance for non-white races" we'll decide (as you clearly have done) that it's OK? Pillock. You're either a rather tiresome troll or the nastiest piece of work in a five-mile radius, I wonder which? -

The fledglings will leave the nest approximately 2-3 weeks after hatching, once they're gone the parents will abandon the nest too and you can move it. Envy you, should be fun watching them!

Given that in the cold snap we were warned we were coming close to running out of gas, that's a pretty significant proportion. As our home-produced supplies are only going to diminish over time, it's hard to think of a better argument for expanding renewables development.

I never take my good luck for granted. Seconded! A lot depends on your personal experience of course, bad things happen everywhere - the only time I've been mugged at knifepoint was when I was doing a post-grad year in Bath, on my doorstep in the most beautiful sleepy eighteenth-century mews! The Proms and the cricket alone would be enough to keep me in London, not to mention the parks, the river, the gigs, the galleries, the museums, the fact that in twenty minutes of cycling I can be out in the countryside...also I have lots of friends here and the ones who don't live here always want to come and visit, because, well, it's London. I'm sure they'd still visit if we were out in the sticks, but I'm honest enough to think they mightn't be so keen or so frequent!

Sherlock Homes...investigating architectural styles
rendelharris replied to Wine Tastings's topic in The Lounge
Yes I am this sad...but can never resist a Sherlock Holmes challenge...by reverse image searching your first picture I see it's on Brodrick Road, Abbey Wood. That's part of the development known as the Co-op estate, built between 1900 and 1930. Judging by the look of it and the layout and proportions I'd say in the later half of that period, about 1925. For sale with Hunters (you probably know this I'm guessing!) so if you get the house number should be quite easy to find the exact date. Don't think there's really a name for houses of that period, they can hardly be called Georgian, even if the reigning monarch was George. Must get out more... -

That's the first thing that occurred to me - you say the 2h+ commute is draining you, but you plan to freelance when you move? As J&B says, why not try it now and see what difference it makes? I switched to freelancing many years ago and the difference it makes to one's life is extraordinary - nearly 20% of one's waking hours given back! Good luck whatever you decide, but as you'll need a freelance career if you move, why not get a head start on it?

Not sure about that! Thinking about it, I know you have to have a licence to have a skip, but whether that actually gives you the right to a space I'm not sure. It does if you want to put the skip on a parking bay, the council will suspend the bay for you, but without them maybe you just have to take your chances. -

Maybe there should > be an abandoned wreck left at every junction. It's not a bad idea at that - I don't know if they still do it, when I was a kid I can remember in Italy at the foot of some of the mountain passes there were large placards with photos of people who'd been killed on them recently, also I recall in a German service station on the Autobahn a prominent display of fatal accidents which had happened within 50km of the facility. Anything to make people think!

If you're having a skip you or your contractors have to get a licence from the council for it and then, I believe, you're legally entitled to reserve the space. -

I've seen a couple of posts, for > example, insulting his use of English, or just > shouting him down in a way that isn't particularly > constructive. I don't see how personal insults of > right wingers do anything productive. For starters, Jim, his original post was absurd, saying that there was nothing on that vile neo-nazi website that was untrue or offensive: Peckhamguy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Went on the site and could not find much wrong as > there is loads of news articles on there about > police scandals ,Muslim grooming gangs etc will > have a better look on the site but the articles > they have put up are all true as people have been > prosecuted for all offences labelled on there, you > lot must have seen something I did not see. He then deleted his post (though he's still defending it and saying it was reasonable and true) and called everyone who disagreed with him "snowflakes." He has not been "ganged up on" unless you regard anyone with whom the majority disagree as being "ganged up on." I can see one post which might qualify as mildly rude (not as rude as Peckhamguy's own posts though); the rest of them are simply asking why he finds a site that advocates killing Muslims and Jews, rants about "Paki rapists" etc etc acceptable. If someone puts up posts effectively saying they find a neo-nazi website acceptable, and calling those who object to it snowflakes, it's perfectly reasonable that they should be challenged. -
New river crossing Rotherhithe-Canary Wharf
rendelharris replied to rendelharris's topic in The Lounge
At ?7.80 return I've never been tempted! Have you tried going via Tower Bridge? Surprisingly it's only half a mile further, time you easily make up by not having to wait for the lifts and walk through Greenwich tunnel, and there's the added bonus of a traffic-free path all the way down to Limehouse. -

"It is the duty of the owner to maintain the vehicle in roadworthy condition and ensure it has a valid current MOT certificate. All modifications to the vehicle which significantly affect its performance and/or value should be reported to your broker. If you do not tell your broker about any relevant changes, or fail to keep the vehicle roadworthy, we may: - reject or reduce your claim. - cancel the policy and/or treat it as though it never existed, or - do both of the above."
-
No you're absolutely right of course, and the clause in most insurance policies which says the policy is invalid if you fail to maintain the vehicle MOT is simply window dressing. Let's see what people who sell insurance, such as confused.com, say: "If you don't have an up-to-date MOT, it could invalidate your car insurance. This could in turn lead to penalties for driving uninsured." But of course you understand better than those whose business it is, which entitles you to be both patronising and rude. Nighty night.
-
Well obviously as you've said "this is not contestable" that ends any discussion. Wow. So if a person does not pay their VED and does not have a valid MOT, if they're involved in an incident in which they're at fault, if they have insurance their company will pay up, no question, and they will not be liable? They won't have to pay a penny? Good luck with trying that out in the real world. You're not "considered" rude, you are extremely rude - "walk away from Google and have a think" - "Now no more man in the pub guff" - plain bad manners.
-
Being rude is such a much better substitute for the facts, isn't it? If you actually look at many car insurance policies, they will specifically state that they are invalidated if the policy holder does not maintain their MOT certificate and VED. I've actually taken the trouble to dig out Mrs.H's policy, and it says exactly that. But of course you know better, because you've posted a snotty comment! Ain't t'internet wonderful!
