Nasty vicious Attack in Peckham Rye Park 24/11/2017
rendelharris replied to dimples's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
And I'm sure she was quite rightly upset, but "two black boys" sounds like a report out of 1970s South Africa. -

"Two black boys"? I don't give a damn what uncleglen, Loz and various other Daily Mail style commenters think, some of nomenclature on here is getting bloody ridiculous. -
It would be nice if it was this simple: instead of holding down F8 or F10 keeping on pressing them repeatedly during startup instead (try one then the other) should get you into setup mode. It used to be that holding them down was the thing, but for some reason now it seems repeated presses are needed. Good luck!

They work nicely fried in a tempura batter and served with chili sauce.

The story Mensch links to also claims that Russia tried to fix the Scottish independence referendum and interfered on behalf of Corbyn in the last general election, suspect that's what she really wants to draw attention to.

Wales-New Zealand. Skybet currently offering NZ 1/33 (!!!) and Wales 10/1. I think I'll spend my tenner on beer to watch the game with, but 10/1 in a two-horse race is pretty mad odds, and the Scots nearly managed it last week...

A non-cricket-loving friend has loaned me their password to BT Sports...whereas before I was happy to go to sleep listening to TMS, I've now been up all night two nights straight, my work is suffering...it's bloody great. Two quick wickets this morning and we'll have 'em right on the back foot...

Latest from PM - Met state no evidence of shots fired, no casualties, no suspects detained. Oxford Street and Bond Street tubes still closed though. 17.43: The Metropolitan Police says in a statement: "To date police have not located any trace of any suspects, evidence of shots fired or casualties. "Officers continue to work with colleagues from British Transport Police in the area of Oxford Circus. "Updates will be provided as soon as we have them. "If you are in building stay in a building, if you are on the street in Oxford Street leave the area. "Officers are continuing to search the area."

Nice to see the principles...I wonder how good an education kids receive from someone who doesn't believe in the system...

Acrid smell of smoke this evening
rendelharris replied to AC1964's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There was a massive fire in a warehouse at Enfield yesterday - massive plumes of smoke visible from ten miles away - and it's presumably still smouldering. The wind's currently from the north west, maybe you're getting a whiff of that? -
Shooting in Lordship Lane opposite Grove Tavern
rendelharris replied to malcolmchurch's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For sure - perhaps something like an armed robbery, but it's easy when rumours are going round to quickly go from "the guy said he had a gun" to "the guy had a gun" to "the guy shot someone." Could be completely wrong but the lack of press coverage, even in the Standard and the Croydon Advertiser, does seem odd. -

Even in this day and age a shooting would at least make the local press. Obviously something happened, possibly a bit of Chinese whispers amongst the people Malcolm spoke to has exaggerated the severity of the incident? -
Nice - well done them.

Chaps, this isn't the first time on here this has come up - the Capital report above is of what happened on Forest Hill last year. No reports anywhere of shootings today in our area, not saying it hasn't happened but no news of it on any outlet I can find! -
Abe_froeman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Cats have a very much smaller carbon footprint > though rendel! Oddly, not so much - I love them both but my family have always fed our dogs on a mainly cereal based diet with a drop of catfood in it, and they've always been massively healthy and long lived (plus it saves a fortune, we've always had big dogs) and fart a lot less - whereas with our cats it's virtually impossible to feed them on anything but meat and fish. Different digestive systems. Anyway, it pales into insignificance compared to the emissions from animals used for human meat and dairy, pets really are a drop in the ocean in this context.

Update on Camberwell Grove bridge consultation

Hmm, interesting, I've only gone down to 100 from 115 so far but may let a little more out when the big rains come. -

And the amount of > waste produced to keep them is enormous. There is no reliable scientific study which supports that claim. A recent study in the US concluded that 163M cats and dogs in that country have the same environmental impact as 13.6M cars, i.e. less than a tenth of a car per pet. This can be further mitigated by feeding dogs a principally cereal based diet. Odd that you, Abe, a noted defender of the motor car, want to ban dogs from London because of their effect on the environment but shriek with indignation any time banning motor cars, even from one street, is suggested. People not picking up after their dogs is disgusting and I'd gladly have them banned from keeping dogs, but I don't believe that 10,000 premature deaths in London each year are contributed to by dogs.

My mum got robbed by black boy on pedal bike
rendelharris replied to Peckhamguy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
OK Louisa, I withdraw from the thread and shall make every effort to look out for a black boy on a pedal bike. OP, sorry that the thread's been derailed (not, originally, or even secondarily, by me) and wish your mum a full and speedy recovery. -

I'm trying hard to keep out of this and not let the frothers continue frothing, but you mentioned a white male and gave a very detailed description of him - would you have just said "a white male" without any other description? Would have been a bit pointless, no? -

Would that be the rendelharris who said he was sure the OP had no racist intentions? Jolly clever insult though, well done. -

I do sympathize but worth noting that with the new segregated cycle paths it's now possible to get from Peckham Library to Canary Wharf, Hyde Park Corner/Lancaster Gate and Farringdon without sharing the road with cars except for a half a mile of quiet backstreet between Burgess Park and Elephant - plus more to come. -

Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Interesting that you don't object to the > identifying of the person as male. Rather sexist > of you. There has to be some form of identifying noun and the baseline ones are girl/boy/woman/man. Throwing in "black" for no reason that I can see does look rather odd. Sure the OP was just writing quickly when upset and did not have any racist intentions, but it does look odd, just as it would if it said "tall man," "short woman" or whatever. Given the number of black people living in this area I don't think the argument that it in any way helps identify the perpetrator holds any water. -
