  1. As posts since 20th June were lost, I thought it might be worth re-posting this. I'd also warn against engaging this builder, we had a bad experience and ended up firing him.
  2. Hello, We need someone to build a batten over a bay window for a curtain pole. It needs to fit in as best as possible with the window frame. It's not a straight batten, it will need to surround the frame a little on the sides too. I don't think it is a complex job, but we need someone who will take care of the details to make sure the wood fits well, gaps are filled neatly etc. Can anyone recommend someone who would do a good job here? We've tried some handyman-type people but they didn't give us any confidence they were thinking about the details. Thanks
  3. Note there are *two* opt outs, one is the national level and one is the GP level. https://digital.nhs.uk/data-and-information/data-collections-and-data-sets/data-collections/general-practice-data-for-planning-and-research#opting-out National Data Opt out - https://your-data-matters.service.nhs.uk/. GP Level - See https://digital.nhs.uk/about-nhs-digital/our-work/keeping-patient-data-safe/how-we-look-after-your-health-and-care-information/your-information-choices/opting-out-of-sharing-your-confidential-patient-information#type-1-opt-out-medical-records-held-at-your-gp-practice. You have to provide a form directly to your GP, this cannot currently be done online (I assume because the practice has to decide to send the data or not). A few links on the NHS site seem to have changed this morning, so these may or may not continue to work. Perhaps there are moves afoot to publicise this better or even move the opt out to online. Surely the last thing GP practices need is millions of paper forms to process.
  4. I thought it was worth saying I managed to get an extension too, having already paid for a new 2021-22 permit. My new permit was extended by two months. All I did was drop [email protected] a polite email saying I had bought a permit last year for the initial planned start date in good faith but it appeared not to be enforced for two months, please extend my new permit to reflect this. I imagine as word spreads they will be getting a lot of these emails!
  5. Does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere I could get the following locally? I need these fairly urgently. 1. Door cill https://www.chilterntimber.co.uk/product/door-cill-oak-flat-45-x-140mm/ I need something like this in a 1.2m length. 2. Stair tread I need a 25mm thick stair tread in a 1m length (pine). Something like https://skirtingboardsdirect.com/products/300mm-x-25mm-pine-stair-treads/. Thanks
  6. I just wanted to say the owners have been traced.
  7. I'm very sorry but I have found a black cat dead on Wingfield Street just now. She/he doesn't have a collar, so I'm going to take it to a vet tomorrow first thing. I'll check messages first thing tomorrow to answer any questions.
  8. FOUND. Healthy and hungry and very grimy. Very relieved here. As is often the way with cats, she hadn't strayed far, just found a creative new spot to get stuck in overnight (a warehouse).
  9. Hello, Our female tabby Saffron has gone missing for over a day. It's very unusual for her to be away for long and we are quite worried. She is one year old, but quite small, tabby with a white throat and stomach. She was wearing a grey collar with a bell when we last saw her, but this could have come off. We live in Wingfield Street, she often spends time in the gardens and mews bounded by Wingfield Street and Howden Street. We are afraid she may have strayed a bit further, as no one has seen her around here so far. If you live here or nearby please check your garden and shed in case she is stuck. If you have seen her please also let us know and we can hopefully track her down. You can reach me on 07787 449330. Thanks, Marcus
  10. And another "highly recommended" for Richard :-) Richard has decorated two bedrooms, a loft room, hallways and a bathroom. Everything was done to a very high standard, giving a nice and even finish across a mish-mash of old paint, messy surfaces and new plaster. Richard is friendly and trustworthy, helpful throughout the whole process and left everything tidy every day. I'll definitely ask Richard back in the future.
  11. Another recommendation for Mark (07506 047721). He replaced a good chunk of my landing's floorboards, taking out and replacing a most of the boards in one area and fixing numerous issues with moving boards and gaps in other areas. He had to work around a lot of awkward issues with uneven areas and everything came out really well - really solid now. Very friendly and tidy.
  12. We ordered delivery many many times, it was one of our favourites. However, about 6-7 months ago we had two awful deliveries (inedible starter, dal like water) and after our friendly feedback was ignored we gave up on them temporarily. We were going to try them again yesterday and only didn't because I think they are normally closed on Tuesdays. Would be a shame if this is for good.
  13. Re slow Tivo boxes, the advice I got was 1. Press Home 2. On the home screen, in quick succession, press Thumbs Down, Thumbs Up, Play, Play The screen should go black and it clears the Tivo caches - can take 20s or so. For me it resulted in a small improvement, but the Tivo still crawls (but it always has).
  14. Also very happy with Mehmet's work. He did a garden clearance for me a couple of months ago, very efficient and friendly. Quote was bang on too.
  15. Another recommendation - Clive was very curteous and honest and did a good job of fixing my leaking flush - which ended up being quite a bit more effort than it first seemed. It was a while back, but I recall he charged his quoted price even though there was more work.
