  1. I think BT may well be offering Fibre to home at some point Infinity 2? My biggest beef with standard broadband is that speed depends so much on the phone line from your house to the pole. Of cource BT never admit that the line from my house is crap (yet everybody else I know it my street has no problem)

  3. People parking on the tiny bit of raised pavement between ours and the neighbours drive (we both have lowered curbs) only about 1/2 a car lenth would fit (i.e. a smart) without blocking us. But it seems to be a magnet on our street, and the abuse you get when you ask them if they could not part there. We actually use our drive and the bit in front for our cars so as not to take up parking elsewhere on the street. Oh yes and the thugs that live across the street. Three generations (all able bodied) who don't/won't work living scot free causing no end of trouble.
  4. I could never fault her behaviour. It it said that one should never leave a dog alone with a small child, she was the exception. Even when my son (2 at the time) decided to cut her hair and snipped her hear, she just sat there with a look of "what did I do?". She never snapped once in her 7 years of life and loved meeting other dogs of all shapes and sizes with no trouble what so ever. I'm convinced she thought she was a cat!
  5. We used to have a beagle who sadly passed away last year due to an enlarged heart. Now one thing we never did was let her off the lead as we were repeatadly warned by the breader that they would bolt as soon as they caught a scent of any animal. Now I don't know if not letting her off the lead could have contributed to her heart condition, but she was always a frail little girl. Anyway. We may consider another kind of scent hound in the future as they have a great nature and are great with kids. Is it possible to train them to be off the lead in a park and get them to respond (our beagle certainly never listened to us as her entire world was in her nose), we couldn't even get her to sit. Any tips?
  6. Did we not do the same when we where young teenagers. The last thing we wanted to do was hang around at home. Teenagers are just loud and hate authority. Even if they are nice kids who are not causing trouble, they are loud and there arn't that many places they can go to be out of noises way in London. Talk to them nicely (maybe with another neighbour hidden way somewhere in case they are the undesirable type, who can call the police at short notice)
  7. Don't tell everyone, there'll be a queue a mile long to have a look ;o)
  8. Could be a lot worse. It could be me singing. Imagine Mark Knopfler/Ian Dury/Lou Reed mashed up and on acid.
  9. It might be a busy junction but there are far busier junctions around with less space that work well enough. A bit of traffic light re-phasing and a turn right filter arrow is all that is needed. Failing that a roundabout would fix the problem, obviously at a higher cost.
  10. I suggest you take down the reg number and report to the police. A few years ago we had an ice cream van doing just the same, always stopping outside the same house where there were known trouble makers. And yes he was selling drugs.
  11. Isn't the history of Dulwich founded on Education and schools! It's probably one of the main reason for rise in the local economy, i.e. people moving to the area with enough money to send their kids to the schools concerned. It really gets on my goat when people complain about schools and the impact they have on a local community. It is often a school that defines the community. They have most likely been around longer than any local resident. And we need schools. They represent the future of our country and we should do everything we can to encourage them. OK we get yummy mummies in their stupid Chelsea tractors who often don't give a f*** about other drivers on the road. But the council does not help by sticking in double yellows around the schools, pushing those who have to drive around in circles trying to find a spot on a residential street (although I have an inkling it is actually an income generator rather than traffic calming measure).
  12. Lots of things to consider (we had one built 8 years ago but ended up having to be taken down). You may find your waste pipes are in the way, so you either have to re-route these or make sure the builder knows how to build around them. Do you have a combi boiler? Is the exhaust where you want your lean-to built. In which case you will have to get the exhaust/boiler moved. Heat. Our lean-to got so hot the wood dried out very quickly and started cracking (was in full sun for most of the day) Unfortunatly we had a dodgy builder (story of our lives) and he did not go through the necessary planning permission.
  13. Well not heard from Wilhelm, why are drummers rare as hen teeth. OK I live with one, but he's only 7. Robinson. Bass. You're in (again rare as hens teeth). Any body interested PM me so we can arrange a Jam. The more the merrier. Music style I'm not too fussed about will try anything, as long as it's not country and western, or a king crimson tribute band, love the stuff but not exactly a crowed pleaser ;o) And yes I do have a Marshall stack ;o)
  14. Yes I am in fact. So there is interest from a drummer, another guitarist who can play bass. Just need a singist ;o)
  15. Just ask them what they are wearing and start breathing heavily ;o)
  16. DCPS is not bad for parking at all compared to somewhere like Jags/Japs Forest Hill is between 10mins and 30mins depending on traffic. Has a link to London Bridge and overground to Canada Water and beyond, and more importantly is affordable compared to Dulwich (east or west). i.e. for the same money you get a large Victorian Terrace with three or maybe 4 beds compared to the smaller ones in East Dulwich with a bigger garden to boot.
  17. The problem is we have an over crowded market, with lots of people looking for work and not enough jobs. Employers have to decide between a qualification and no qualification, even at the minimum wage level. Who are you going to take?? Whilst I agree with minimum wage I can also see the pitfalls, especially in a global market competing against countries with no minimum wage. If the service you require does not need a qualification, but costs you ?6 an hour, there is somebody in india that can do the same job for you for 50p an hour! Germany has had an apprentiship system for years (a bloody good one too), and you have to go to technical college to get your eventual qualification. The result. Quality long term employees and quality products. This is as far as I'm concerned the UKs biggest failing. Once an industrial giant with the best engineering and quality in the world, now a place selling mediocre goods. Maybe not in the high tech industries, but would you buy a mass produced car made by a UK company? Forgot they don't exist any more.
  18. If we want to turn ED into a NH lets turn the hospital into an art centre, with a live music venue bring some spice to the place
  19. I personally can't see the similarities. NH has much greater cultural diversity, a younger population, more clubs/pubs which attract the youth and dare I say it more colourful and vibrant people. ED and the surrounding areas are mainly just residential areas with no real history of being a cultural centre. Could you imagine an East Dulwich carnival ;o) ED is lucky to have a fairly quiet high street, with great potential that has not been taken advantage of. Can you really call North Cross Road market a major market that would attract the masses? Is there anything on LL that would make people travel across London to get to?
  20. It depends on the time of day and the day of the week. Weekends Wandsworth tends to be quite busy when getting to the A3, so going via Tooting/Balham, etc can be quicker. Alternatively and not mentioned is to drive through Bromley and join the M25 at Pratsbottom. There have been times (after looking up on various traffic sites) where I've gone up to the A4/M25 to get to the A3.
  21. Well a drummer a vocalist a play guitar, just need a bass player ;o) The ED experience ;o)
  22. Well I hung up my axe years ago (ok I still annoy the neighbours and the family), but I do miss the odd gig down at the local (not that many places put on live music these days). So I'm looking for like minded people, who can play a bit of Rock/Blues, who like me have little time and family commitments, to get together, Jam maybe put a small set together and have a blast now and again when time allows. Any takers
  23. The biggest problem for the whole of SE London is the lack of local jobs. Why do people have to get the train into Central London?, cos that is where the work is Now if there where some incentive to get big business to open offices around here less people would have to commute. Likewise why do big companies always have to come to London which is already over populated There is not real solution and like smoking/drinking, etc people will keep paying for their cars and sacrifise everything else in life to keep them. Now if public transport were far cheaper than running a car, especially for long journeys those of us who do long journey regularly may starting thinking different. i.e. an open return for work to Birmingham at short notice cost ?360. For the same price I could get a driver and car for the day.
