I'll take responsibility for the "Ugly" jibe - lets call it the Ann Widdecombe factor.

Noone compared Michael Foot and Ed Miliband - Ed Miliband was compared to Ian Duncan Smith - being a leader with no gravitas, controlled from within - hence he is already today on the back foot saying "I'm my own man" over and over.

And disrespectful to other people on the forum. That aside - I dont think I ever said I vote for me. I vote for the party of correction and a correction was needed long before 1997 and hence it came to be. Likewise a correction was needed this year and so it came to be.

It does no one justice. Back to the wilderness is my prediction for Labour DC, and many will look to make predictions after a big appoitment - if you think it will work out well for Labour then good luck to you, you may be right, lets see. But there is nothing wrong with making predictions and I'm not sure what you mean by "It does noone justice".

Who is my friend on facebook then?

Well exactly. The Tories have to play the game too. Its all a fight for the middle groud. Extremes are losers these days and if labour go that way they will be losers.
-
I suspect I know exactly what you were inferring Sean. And as for "I don't vote for Labour for me" - that was just so self important I genuinly laughed out loud.

Its a tricky one - Friends of ours have moved to Gloucester and have a house and a huge garden/field. We went to visit and loved the walk to the family pub, the scenery the Wye Valley ales, the kids run free in the gerden. But we were still glad to return to ED. But we don't really know why.

Thats the trouble with University Declan - it used to be free tuition and a grant for spending money too. Now the kids have to pay for all of it and have a huge bill at the end of it not to mention a possible graduate tax - together with a degree that everyone else has too - what a mess. Thank New Labour for the privelege of paying for your 3rd level education. Another well intentioned move that went wrong.
-
I don't think its anything to worry about Declan. Someone will get caught in the act and it will stop, its freshers week after all and they are just finding their feet. Its potentially the most exciting week of their lives. In my time it was mostly milk that was stolen - noone had much else. My mum used to bring me up a weeks supplies including fresh meat etc, I used to sell it to my housemate at half price and use the money for beer and kebabs. Food was not much of a priority. Toast was popular.

Shocking > isnt it LOL Sean - If that is not the most patronising post ever... Kinnock realised that you have to play the game to succeed. Smith and Blair too. Labour yesterday decided that it wanted to go back to its roots. They do this at a time when the electorate has already told them at the ballot box that their policies of tax and spend and a huge uncontrollable public sector are not what is needed. The Labour Party was originally born out of a need that existed at the time and has reoccurred from time to time since then. Its not what the country needs now. In response to a lost election, Labour vote in, a left wing candidate with outdated idealogical views closely linked to the Unions. Labour is a party that appeals to (amongst others) young militants and idealogists who think fair is a good word that will make everybody happy. Some people grow up and understand the real world and understand motivation and reward. You may vote for Labour Sean to make you feel a better person or because "its the right thing for a Guarian reader to do" but it may often be a bad thing for the country. It can't always be right to vote Labour. You probably know at the end of the day you have the safety net of a more realistic electorate that will ensure you don't have to endure the current Labour party in government. And after yesterday's poor decision, I'd say you wont have to worry about Labour being in power for some time. Labour had its day in the sun, but it will have to have another Kinnock style speech in a decades time to right the wrongs of a left wing approach and make them electable again. The media are already calling him "Red Ed" - with that, its goodbye Labour. I say that as a former Labour voter who attended Labour fundraising events etc. But society and economies shift, each party needs to adapt regularly, any party these times needs to find centre ground to regain power and a shift to the left after the electorate already rejected their current stance is a grave error of judgement. Goodbye Labour - let me know when they are next in power Sean. I'll bring the zimmerframe to the party. {As an aside - My wife told her friend that Ed had won yesterday - and the response was "oh is he the ugly one?" That won't help his case. These things do play a part.]

Students do things they would not be happy to look back on 20 years later Declan.

I think Matt is right. The Torys will be over the moon. Ed Milliband is Labour's Ian Duncan Smith. Tony Blair knew how to work the Unions. They went with him on a wave of Labour optimism which is now lacking, the Unions are not going to help Labour become electable.

I can't swim, so I'm happy that it is not deeper. As our my kids, who can swim, but are not tall. -

Absolutlety - myself and a mate used to do food raids all the time as we had come home and there was nothing in an had the munchies. Its par for the course in Uni Halls - does not make it right of course. Law of the jungle I'm afraid. He's old enough now to fight his own battles - And Id suggest he does not want his Dad getting involved? Let him find his own way.

I have backed him in all of his races Declan. Breeders Cup does not suit him necessarily - but he may go for a turf event this time and hopefully a mile, unlike last year.

Michael Foot was an ideoligist, obviously super intelligent. The Kinnock speech was the speech of a someone who knew that Labour needed to appeal in order to have any say. Today was a step back to listening to the left wing idealists who will moan away at each years conference and sound like a bunch of whingers. Ed Milliband v David Cameron - no contest I would imagine. But my days of supporting Labour are I think behind me anyway, when you are younger you may feel the world is against you and Labour will help.
-
Never wins ? - you don't know your racing Declan. He lost today but on a photo finish, and on ground that does not suit him. It was a good effort for a horse tbat runs a group 1 every month.
-
Noone is going to vote for that ugly twot. Left wing politics is history anyway. Its all over for Labour. Pretty boys with middle right politics are the way forward.
-
It looked a fair goal to me. The ball was dead and sitting there ready for the free kick. He kicked it and that was that, play on. And it's Torres FF assist for me too. But I'm completely objective.
