  1. No - one bet on Rip van Winkle - lost in photo finish in good race. Might do better in the Breeders Cup this year. ??
  2. Make that 14 years rosie. The OP was supportive of kinnock and this was the start of the party being electable. Today is a bad day for labour and reflects their shift to left post blair.
  3. We must have the same radio - I heard that too.
  4. Back to left wing opposition wilderness. Why are the Unions still such a big player in Labour Leader elections, when they have been dragging Labour down for decades.
  5. 4 in a row for Frankie at ascot today.
  6. Any Spurs fans on the forum?
  7. On facial expressions it looks like David. Ed looks disappointed. But its Ed. There you go. It seems Ed won the Union and Affilates sections. He seems incedibly dull.
  8. Blue Moon......

  10. Europe at 1.72 for Ryder Cup A good bet? Looks good to me - but would have to go big.
  11. Each month I thank Birmingham Midsires for their silly tracker offer....I am happy with my bet on interest rates taken out in 2006......
  12. Cycles - invest now ..... get out later. Horses are noooo good. (Wait till I find the property prices thread - you will be hiding then....:))
  13. OOOOOh Have you been in the potato famine depressed Irish backwater for the week ? Doom and gloom. March 2009 - the Dow Jones was 6626 - today it closed at 10,662.... What would the bank have given you in the same time. Cycles my friend, cycles.
  14. EDF 2009 Interest Rate predictions....famous posters
  15. I'm in the mood for bumping old threads. Because, now we are a couple of years since the beginning of the end for the economy, its interesting to look back at peoples predictions from almost 2 years ago.... Who was on the money? and who was way off?
  16. ?While we do not expect growth to reach the pace of the initial post-recession phase, easy monetary conditions are working across global financial markets, and it is simply a matter of time before that provides a lift to real activity,? said Larry Kantor, Head of Research at Barclays Capital. ?Emerging markets should continue to outperform developed markets, and we see the massive underperformance of equities relative to credit nearing an end.? Thats pretty much how I see it. So I was pleased to see these comments today.
  17. Kinnock 1985 Alan Davies tonight says this speech in 1985 was the beginning of the modern Labour Party...... Hearing the speech for the first time myself (in excerpts) it seems this is when Neil Kinnock said it was not about Labour principles, it was about winning a general election. The beginning of the road to success for Labour. The beginning of Labour playing the game. Kinnock divided the party with this speech - many walked out.

  21. Hopefully he will. Sometimes you have to reach rock bottom before you start enjoying the rebirth. And last night must have been rock bottom.

  23. "The Fed comment was certainly not unexpected, but it does lower the bar for the economy. There is a continuous flight to safety and the fact that major indexes broke above technical range is certainly making people think about a minor correction," said Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer of Solaris Asset Management in New York. I'm not an investment professional like you Hal - but I think part of the problem is we have so many short term investors and investment managers who are overly active. Therefore even a minor correction results in over selling. Its seems more pronounced than in the past.
