It was a very simplistic post Mockney. I'm afraid there is no getting away from that. I expected as i was typing that you might come back with a Derry friend. That said, he has a bit of work to do to, to balance your views. I doubt many people from Derry would be impressed with your analysis of Bloody Sunday.
  2. Mockney - I'm not surprised to read that you have friends in the forces having read your initial post. I'd suggest you would have been influenced very differently if you had friends who lived in Derry in the 70s. There are two sides to every debate. I'm suggesting yours is the traditional British one. Sorry but I am also unimpressed with anyone that claims other people's posts are "more facile nonsense". Its a bit high handed.

Its the sort of analysis I'd expect from an ill informed teacher trying to get the basic British defence over to an English GCSE class. And that's not meant as a put down, its a routine line of argument which is trotted out many times, its both simplistic and one sided. An excuse invested for the disgraceful treatment of UK citizens. Its Narnia's thread but I wanted to respond to Jah's comment, which implied britain behaved honourably in the face of bombs in England.

  5. It was quite late....
  6. Favourite backing again... Jan Vermeer looked very impressive winning at the Curragh, ridden hands only. Hope it handles the course come Saturday. With a saver on Fallon's horse too.

  8. Italy too good to resist at 16.5. Italy 16.5 ?70.00 ?1,085.00 Thats the first world cup bet. Italy are 31 games without defeat under Lippi.
  9. Ah - I have watched it now. Thought initially it was someone preaching the evils of drink. Quite funny though.
  10. David Bowie's first tv appearance. As a result of the risks taken by David, we can all have long hair without facing "darling" and "handbag" jibes. Thank gawd. Quids is particularly relieved.
  11. next year the UK entry will be in German.... and we will be playing 4-4-2

  13. Or are you being fed a load of salt and sugar ? thats sometimes my suspicion when something appears to be value but tastes really good.
  14. Ah - that does clarify that issue. Did seem very defensive of the govt. Probably thought alastair caampbell had wind of it slready.
  15. Schooldays they used to say - not sure I agree. What are your thoughts? So far at age 42 - I'd go for my 25-35 decade - most transiant period of your life when you enjoy being young but you perhaps commit to a long term relationship and make a move into family life which is the next stage in your developement. The university years are fantastic but mad and riddled with concerns about debt and exam stress. Post 40, life should I guess be settled and your committment is to pay the bills and support your family, but life is generally more predictable. I guess its a bit textbook in terms of development, but thats where I am now and looking back "25 - 35" were the best years.

    Eurovision

Looks like UK and Ireland (not sure those terms are mutually exclusive) are fighting it out for the bottom 3 places. Also - Does noone from the UK want to present Eurovision? Terry Wogan and now Graeme Norton present on the BBC. It is a show that needs a bit of humour though, so I guess a uk presenter is ruled out.
  22. As they were in a relationship they were both coupleable.
