  1. Many thanks everyone. Mum and little Rory should be allowed home on Sunday which is great news. Id like to thank all the staff at kings at all levels who helped us get through this week.Mick.
  2. Steady RD http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41YWzoLD6fL._SL210_.jpg Rory hopped in his car and roared home in 1st place.....just took a bit of time to get his Mum right again, hence the delay in the announcement. Mother and baby are both well now. Congrats to Quids too, both Mums were in the same room at one stage! That's forum bonding for you....
  3. Any man with four pound signs as a nickname must be gagging to get on such a show....no?

  5. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > PS. Mick I was only joking with my last post, > Inter clearly were not a poor team, I just knew > you'd bite. I did not think I did "bite" Keef - I tried to turn your point to my advantage. Anyway all agreed - we all support great teams. SP - I do rate the treble - I don't rate the MU performance in the final so much.
  6. Forest achieved a record unbeaten run and during that run won the league and european cup. There has to be a tangible reward to hang your hat on.
  7. Well, I personally don't rate the MU one too highly Atila, it was a final MU deserved to lose. However on the other hand for a team to be able to win a european final without Scoles and Keane is a great achievement, and the semi final win over Juventus (Zidane etc) was something else. Arsenal's 49 games is a great domestic achievement, but ultimately it came to nothing. I'd put Liverpool's Bob Paisley team top of the UK teams as they dominated home and in europe over an extended period. However in terms of what you can achieve in one season, there's a lot to say about the team that achieved something first, ahead of the others, against the odds, and won the Scottish League, FA Cup and League cup treble at the same time. As Bill Shankly looked up to Jock Stein, he said, "Jock - you are immortal" and he knew his football Atila. He did what all the other managers wanted to do and he did it first.
  8. I'm with Mr Ben - its a British institution that needs to modernise. These public to private changes take an amazingly long time to switch from a public sector mentality to a private sector mentality. The unions ensure that change takes time and before you know it the entity is uncompetitive. I admit I don't know the particulars of the strikers case, but not sure you need to, its a scenario we know well, unions failing to see the bigger picture.
  9. Fair point RD. Some however, as Atila said "just don't get it" when some people rank Celtic's 1967 achievement so highly, so for those people its just some background to the achievement. The other team that Talksport brought into their hall of fame was Nottingham Forest, who did repeat the feat the following year, which you say is an important criteria, albeit their achievement was 13 years later, with big finances and a million pound footballer on board. Nevertheless a small club with a big time manager, as with Jock Stein, it shows what can be achieved.
  10. Celtic made what had been the best team in europe over the last few years look like a poor team keef. Is that what you are saying keef? The final had wider effects in that it was seen as proof that stylish attacking football could win over the defensive italian style of play that had dominated in recent years. The great dutch teams would pick up the baton and run with it. Feyenoord would beat celtic 2-1 in the 1970 final leading to a period of dutch dominance and total football. Some give jock stein and his team a lot of credit for how football would evolve in the decade following 1967. [i know this may seen a bit over the top but this may all be new to some so i will take my chance to get it out there!]
  11. Well done Quids - that even looks impressive to me. What I would add is that in 1967 the scottish league was a match for the english league - or as close as it has ever been (As well as Celtic winning the European Cup in 1967, Rangers lost the European Cup Winners Cup final to Bayern Munich in 67). Celtic won all 5 competitions they entered in 1967 - Winning a domestic treble as well as the European Cup, with players from within 30 miles of glasgow, the only "local" team ever to win the European Cup. Inter went into the final trying to win their 3rd european cup in 4 years and were big favourities. But look at the stats from the final and it tells the story of Celtic's dominance. You will rarely see a more one sided set of statistics at the top level: Stats: Inter / Celtic Goal Attempts 5 / 42 Shots On Target 4 / 24 Shots Off Target 0 / 16 Fouls 20 / 20 Corners 0 / 10 Offside 2 / 7 Hope you get it now Atila. Changed times indeed, but at the time and since, celtic fans believe the achievment is unsurpassed.
  12. TalkSport - Greatest Football Team of all time
  13. Jimmy - just say to her that you think its a little early, I'm sure she will understand. If she is doing this then she perhaps wants to make sure the fact that she has children does not put you off, and while that might be easy for you to say, she might want you to understand that children are real people.
  14. To Monica - A picture of Gary McCausland for her bed post To Lady Muck - Something to stop her falling over laughing tits up etc... To PGC - A double whisky To Jah - a top 4 place To HAL 9000 - Another diving holiday in Muff To Red Devil - A big winner at Ascot To TLS and BBW - another chance To Quids - a healthy baby

I like to think I called that pretty good SP. One Nil down two one up...... We won the league on merseyside...... Come on your Goonaaahhs.......
  18. Sandperson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think a fit and physical Liverpool side should > beat Arsenal this afternoon. SP - I think Arsenal are physically stronger than previous seasons - I don't think that is so much of a concern anymore. They outmuscled the Chelsea midfield in the first half a few weeks ago and control midfield possession against most teams they have played this season. Their obvious failure is not having the firepower upfront, but hope Arshavin can do the business up front today. I'd encourage Arsenal players to shoot on sight - they still try to keep passing the ball even when they get in the box. They have to be more direct and decisive. Thay can be beautiful to watch but equally, they can be very frustrating.

To be fair Chelsea sounded very unlucky. > Arsenal have lost to MU and Chelsea so far, so they need to show today that they can beat a big4 team. If they do Quids, then things begin to look very interesting. If they lose then I guess they are not any worse off than they were before the weekend, but they will feel they missed an opportunity. Arsenal missed Van Persie against Chelsea, no doubt about that, but last weekend thay played Arshavin up front as a striker and that seemed to work, so hopefully that will be a fix for their upfront problems. I think that is a good move from Wenger, better than Walcott or Eduardo.
  20. Whilst MU will have been happy with Michael Owen in mid week - yesterdays two goals from Carlos Tevez and his recent performances show that he is the one they should have retained. To lose Ronaldo was one thing but Tevez would have played a bigger part in his absence.
