  1. I used to be completely averse to the wedding list idea (20 years ago) until a friend of mine - who chose not to have a list - showed me a cupboard full of sheets, irons, saucepans etc that he had received as wedding presents and did not need. Often people already have the basics, but that, *bob*, does not get you off the hook in buying them a present. Surely most wedding lists have the option of buying vouchers and the couple can then combine them with others to buy something they need. We received a number of cheques, that just said "to spend as you wish" - people just want to help you get something you want or need - mostly they don't mind if all that you need is a widescreed tv.
  2. well done sue. I thought declan had killed that thread. To get back on topic i an surprised at the lack of will to buy a nice wedding present. Its maybe the only time you will buy that person a present and they are themselves spending a lot of money on the day.
  3. Bored!? Well im sorry but i have bought a very special outfit.
  4. You keep pushing for that one Rosie. What should I wear?
  5. Ok. That's convinced me and you were right to defend yourself.
  6. Tax and NIC - they are both lost money, any attempt to reconcile amounts paid with the direct benefits received is futile. David - at ?50 for a photocopy I'm sure they won't lose money on that particilar operation. If someone decides to go private that only helps take the stress off the NHS. Yes "Yman" I think you should be entitled to the copies free - you would otherwise be adding to the NHS waiting list and the cost that we all pay for people to be treated. All taxpayers should be grateful for those who go private - we don't therefore have to pay for their treatment with our taxes. Ultimatley its just more money for consultants, but at least one person moves up the NHS waiting list.
  7. Are you sure you are the genuine dog owner slims....Did the RSPCA advise you that your dog had been reported though the EDF? Otherwise how would you know anything about this discussion as you are not a regular poster?

KAY....LANNE I have not heard of that one "lilolil". Has anyone ever told you your name reads like a random time trial on a gym cycling machine.
  9. Its next Friday mazza - you can start drinking when you get up. If you don't want to drink alone, I guess 8pm might be a good guess.
  10. Today's Inquiry into child abuse by Catholic priests is another shameful day for Ireland and the Catholic Church. It is partly because of the high position that the Church holds in Ireland and the fact that it was above the law, in that the local police would be reluctant to challenge the local church, but at the end of the day priests took up positions in the knowledge that they would be in the company of young children. I'm embarrassed in that this happened in Ireland, but I see this as another reason for people to reconsider the blind faith they put in people who preach religion, and here there is cause to remember that there is no proof of any God or external influence and that these people who preach to us are human and have not got anything that we should automatically respect.
  11. I mean golf may be boring - but cricket.......we need to draw the line.
  12. I see Anna's back (girls name thread). She's just not talking to us, that's all.
  13. Might start new thread. Or maybe not.
  14. You will find a lot of pre wedding promises are not kept Bob.

  16. I have been going with ?100 recently for friends weddings. But ?75 seems absolutley fine to me. ?50 might be ok if you are young / single, ie one person attending wedding. These days with 2 kids it costs a lot just to get to the wedding and often an overnight stay for 4 costs a lot more than the wedding gift. I think most people are happy to have a gift and probably won't judge you.
  17. Buy the box set of The Wire and watch it from start to finish. I'm only on the second series and have no time to watch it.
  18. I agree matt. The european semis need a european dimension. Nothing worse than an all english final. Nice to see one english team against the best europe has to offer.
  19. Ted Max Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I think someone's been drawing on your photos, > Charlie. Well spotted there Ted. [eh? What did you spot there Ted?]
  20. Same view from Dulwich Golf Club......there's another one for KK's shortlist.
  21. Oh yeeesss. http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=tbn:dj9T6l1BC0ty3M::img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00471/SNN1833B_471637a.jpg&h=94&w=67&usg=__NP50rzRU9J5IoEiD1whx9vCoepQ= :))
  22. Some good saves from the Besiktas keeper towards the end gives them the win at OT. (some punters must have lost a few quid on that result I imagine....).
  23. How about the oldest golf club in the world (arguably). http://www.royalblackheath.com/files/rbgcmembers.co.uk/50/header_public.jpg Blackheath mention that other items in their possession suggest a date of 1745 may have been the inauguration of a collection of players into a formalised Club, but they do not give details. The idea that the first golf club could be English, and not Scottish, is not as impossible as it sounds. In Edinburgh there were plenty of golfers and arrangements for a game would have been easy to make. Blackheath is several miles outside the City of London and to get there in Stuart times would have meant significant travel arrangements, such as being ferried by waterman to Greenwich. Thus the reduced number of golfers and the geography could easily have produced more organisation sooner, but no conclusive evidence is felt to exist at present.
  24. The Monument. All 311 steps. My daughter had learned about the Fire of London in school and guess what, I had to take them up to the top. Scary up there but great views. Came down and my daughter asked me where Pudding Lane was - I was half way through explaining that it did not exist as it was burned down in the fire of london - when she looked past me and said - "No Daddy - there it is over there". Sure enough, big street sign "Pudding Lane". First time I have been caught out bluffing to my children. First of many I expect. http://www.londonnet.co.uk/files/images/newsimages/monument_steps_london.jpg Some american guys were standing at the bottom saying to the ticket collector - "Maaaan, I can't believe this place does NOT have an elevator......" Then they refused to go in - how sad is that?
  25. Listening to Porto Chelsea on R5, it seems there is a player called "jerkoff" playing? Is this true, or just Alan Green's accent.
