  1. No, he moved out before lockdown when the house was sold to a developer. No idea where he went.
  2. Construction noise is only allowed between 8am and 6pm (unless they have an out of hours licence). You should definitely call the Southwark noise team: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/noise-and-antisocial-behaviour
  3. A word of warning: I have just been given a parking ticket here, having nipped in to M&S for no more than 15 mins. The loading bay sign still says '1 hour'. I caught up with the traffic warden and he told me that they now 'observe' the vehicle for 2 mins and if you don't reappear in that time you will be given a ticket. I objected and he said, "it would be OK if you were a van, but not a car." Which will be the basis of my appeal - how do you know I'm not using my car as a van? You can't be making arbitrary decisions. First time I have been caught out here. And before the anti-car lobby jump on me, I do know that loading bays are meant for loading. This is just an fyi, because having lived here since 1998, that is the first time I have been given a ticket for parking there. Sigh.
  4. Happening without a democratic mandate. And your characterisation of anyone who opposes the CPZ as 'right wing, car loving, climate deniers' does your argument no credit. But I guess, given that you clearly don't give a monkey's what the majority think, why not employ a sweeping generalisation?
  5. As someone who opposes the CPZ, I was genuinely interested to see how popular this petition was. Not that popular, as it turns out - only two people have signed it (and I guess you're one of those, megalaki?). I hope this gives all those who want us saddled with this highly questionable proposal some pause for thought.
  6. You do realise that if a CPZ is imposed borough wide, it also has cost implications for you, car owner or not? Every time someone comes to visit you - a friend/relative, workman, health visitor, anyone - you are going to have to pay for an hourly/few hours/one day visitor's permit for them to park outside your house?
  7. School street closure. It's explained on this thread:
  8. Does anyone have more recent experience of using Crown Joinery?

There is banner up outside with the company's number on, but it connected to what sounded like an office answerphone - I suspect I won't get any response to that message before Monday at the earliest. I have now got through to the noise team but am waiting for a call back. Hopefully that happens before the builders pack up for the day.
  10. A plea to the person having a loft extension built on Bawdale Road, which according to the planning docs is the householder: please could you ask your builders to desist from working on a bank holiday. I have tried phoning the SOuthwark noise team but was waiting on hold for a reply for 40 minutes. So I just went round there (I live on Whateley in a house that backs onto the building site) and tried shouting to your workmen from the street but they either ignored me or couldn't hear me because of the noise they're making. They have consistently ignored the Southwark construction hours regs over the past few weeks and I am losing my patience!!
  11. I know what you mean. I was waiting to board one as it pulled into LB last night. When the doors opened I was hit by some slightly warm, slightly unfresh air rolling out of the carriage. Bleurgh.
  12. So we have new trains, which are great. But does anyone know if they will permanently be 5 carriages instead of the old 8 carriages? Because it does rather take the shine off them when you suddenly can't get a seat!

  14. Construction noise is not allowed on a Sunday or bank holiday. These are Southwark's permitted working hours: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/noise-and-antisocial-behaviour/construction-noise However, if contractors choose to ignore them - and I have experience of this on a 9-month build on the house next to me - you haven't got much choice but to simply try to reason with them. You can in theory call out the Southwark noise team but I'm not sure they're back working yet. Good luck!
  15. I have always found getting through to that practice on the phone a complete nightmare. Was long overdue a check-up even before lockdown cos every time I phoned I could never get through. Good luck!
  16. A dog has been barking from inside a house somewhere on Bawdale or Whateley Road since mid-afternoon, a good 6-7 hours. Should you own this dog, may I politely suggest that they're not very happy being left on their own for so long. Poor thing.
  17. Because I want to sell it. And, given it's 15 years old, it helps to prove it's roadworthy sandyman Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > i use Dell and they are pretty good. i was booked > in for an MOT in early April but then they closed. > I thought MOTs have been extended for six months > now. Why did you need to have a test?
  18. Hi. Just wanted to share the news that Dell Autos, on Hansler Road, is back open. Just had my car MOT'd in superquick time. (By the way, I have no link with the business, I'm just putting the word out for them.) Thanks
  19. Anyone got any top tips for when Sainsbury's tends to be less busy? Was there about 8.30 and the queue was snaking right the way round the car park and up DKH. Thanks
