You ask a "simple" Brexit-like question, you're going to get a "simple" Brexit-like winner-takes-all answer that satisfies no-one...except the extremists at whichever end of the spectrum won.

You already can't turn from Dulwich Rd into Townley Rd though...

So in order to turn right out of the petrol station, you turned left, drove 20 feet down the bus lane, then chucked a uey (in front of the guy that was letting you through) to turn into the lane coming the opposite direction? If that was the manoeuvre I'm not surprised you were fined. Did you appeal it?

Kensington and Chelsea also have some of the worst air, worst congestion and highest car use in the whole of London.

1) this isn't supposed to be a policy that makes sense. It's supposed to be a policy that screws over Sadiq Khan and doesn't cost anything. 2) the government didn't specify that people should buy diesel cars 3) the science around diesel has changed since the diesel boom of the 2000s. Non-diesel technologies have got better and cheaper. 4) the congestion charge is the same for normal hybrid, petrol and diesel cars. In a couple of years there will be no discounts for ultra efficient hybrids. 5) when the congestion charge was introduced and then expanded - people who'd parked for free had to pay. That's how the congestion charge works!

Typical anti-car eco-extremism from the... ... Tory Brexit Party. Glad to see that drivers' rights are being stood up for by...Sadiq Khan.

The road is closed to *motorised* through traffic. Shouting doesn't make you right. It makes you look hysterical.

The situation was made worse when some dickhead managed to push over the temporary plastic barriers (installed on the pavement to replace the permanent barrier some other dickhead knocked over a couple of months ago) and an additional section of permanent steel pedestrian railings...on the corner of College Rd and the South Circular. The steel barrier is now poking out into the roadway and can't be moved. That happened right in rush hour peak. ...but probably that was also the fault of a Stalinist planter outside a hairdressers...

Closing the South Circular due to an emergency was always going to cause jams all over the place. Having Court Lane open would just have meant Court Lane and Calton Avenue would also have been jammed as well as well as all the other roads. It wouldn't have meant there wouldn't be jams this morning. Despite that, I look forward a conspiracy theory from the usual suspects about how Sadiq Khan himself put a hole in the water main because he owns a palace on Court Lane and is part of a plot led by George Soros to short BP...or something.

That comment was made in respect on one specific scheme, not all permeable barriers generally. I appreciate that the article is not clearly written in that respect. You guys need to understand the hard facts about consultation in this context. The central government gave an extremely short window to councils to access money for experimental and COVID-related measures. They were not allowing councils to go through their normal processes. Doing the consultation would have meant the experiment wouldn't have happened because there would have been no money. The experiment is ongoing. The time to take decisions is once the experiment is finished and there is actual data.

I think the pedestrian lanes could be better marked e.g. with the symbol for pedestrians... However, it'll be a while before I go there again. Seems like none of the shopkeepers and few of the shoppers are bothering to wear masks or limit capacity. Rye Lane is grubbier than the Walworth Rd these days. It definitely needs a rocket up its bum to stop becoming grubbier or (just as bad) becoming a strip of chain stores.
