  1. cool -- my number is 07968 173715.

we can aim for a train from either clapham junction (9.12 or 9.42) or Balham (4 minutes later). if we meet in east dulwich at 9 we should get to clapham in time for 9.42.

  2. i was hoping to get out to some off-road stuff (but nothing too severe). if you've got chunky tyres a hybrid should be OK.

How about this for a plan:

meet in east dulwich early (about 9.00) and ride to clapham junction, then get the train to box hill (about 45 minutes)

there are a few routes around there with big hills, so I reckon on doing less than 10 miles.

Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

  3. I can't remember how far east I went along the river - not that far beyond Thamesmead I think, so I don't know how far the path goes.

Westbound you can start at putney and go out past richmond, kingston, hampton court and keep going - all very nice and green. I keep meaning to go all the way out to windsor and then get the train back - I've heard that Windsor great park is very good for cycling

  4. I've finally got round to replacing my stolen mountain bike, so I'll be keen to get out into the countryside soon.

How about this Friday (it's a bank holiday)? Alternatively any of the weekends in April should be good.

  5. oh sorry - really should read things through before sending them. Saturday morning.

godstone isn't as far away, not sure how harsh the hills are, but the description says "the shortcut helps avoid some of the big hills, so there are no excuses"

    hmm...

  6. morning. how about the godstone route from the book that i posted above (but with the shortcut, so it's only 14 miles instead of 23, and avoids the worst of it)? meet at mine at 9.30 again?
  7. thanks for the suggestions. definitely up for doing that again - saturday 23rd somewhere and saturday 30th at Oxted should be good for me. if there are 3 of us up for a ride, maybe we should pick somewhere doable by train just in case we can't get 3 bikes on the back of the car (which i think is probably quite likely)
  8. Is there anyone out there who wants to do some off-road cycling? Maybe go out to the North Downs while the weather is good - nothing too hardcore, though.

I need to get some use out of the suspension on the mountain bike I got last year - I put slick tyres on it, and I've only used the knobbly tyres once.
