  1. I understand that Honor oak station will be running the new Lonond over ground services to surrey Quays and Dalston form some time later this year. Does any one know if the normal London Bridge service will be maintained?
  2. Do your parents live in Sydenham? I heard it can get cold up there on the hill
  3. Picking up on sidhues message abou the broken down buses on forest hill road last night. I was surprised to see that the bus drivers were helping other drivers push their cars up the hill. Well done bus crews! loved the good natured joshing from some pedestrians ( Show him your oyster card etc)
  4. So it seems Tessa Jowell supported Nick Stantons application ( see PDF) I imagine this is how things should work. the council knows it needs omse more money to increase schools places. The council apllies to central government who control the funds. Tessa supports the application. I don't think for a minute that she wouldn't support it. Why wouldn't anyone assoicated with the borough not support it? If the leader of the council in any borough asks for more money for schools it would be a sucidial Local MP who wouldn't support it Well done council for getting the money, thankyou Tessa for helping. Lets spend it to get the biggest benefit we can
  5. Huguenot You said in reply to Cllr Barber: "So you delivered all your manifesto commitments despite not having been elected to do so? And you're proud? You stole control? " I understood that equal numbers of Lib dem and Labour councillors were democratically elected (28 each) along with 6 tories and a green. Under the election system that was used ( and without going into a debate on different systems of PR) why isn't a Lib dem-tory administration representative of a majority of the people? Do you belive there should be some sort of 44% Lib dem, 44% labour, 10% tory and 2% green admin? with each party having differing policies how would this work? Coalition government is not unusual on the continnent and it's not unusual in british councils. In fact the blending and moderation of policies means that we don't get the "winner takes all" swing of policy that polarises our elections.
  6. do they offer odds on council elections? I hope not, you can win a council set with ~1000 votes, that really is dodgy
  7. I love the idea that there are odds on this election. I'm no gambler, or economist for that matter, but it seems a bit perverse to offer odds to the people who can detemine the result. Is the forum the place to arrange a betting syndicate? could the voters of DAWN all stick in ?10 each and then vote Lib dem? we'd all come away with ?200 and a new local MP who, according to Pugwash spends a lot of time working in the community!!! Incidently the boundary changes are a bit more extensive than Bic basher highlighted, see http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/guide/seat-profiles/dulwichandwestnorwood the labour areas of Peckham rye ward and south camberwell which are transferrd into harriet harmans seat are replaced by other traditional labour wards around brixton. I really don't think the tories can win here
  8. I loved her reported comment to a witness "I'm Harriet Harman, you know where to find me" I've rarely heard such a good catch phrase
  9. puzzled, a councillor is our democratically elected representative charged with ensuring the local authority provides the services we want. he is not the primary point of contact for finding out about services. Call the southwark call centre I'm sure they'll help you or look on the website. http://www.southwark.gov.uk/yourcouncil/contactsection/ it's unfair to criticise a coucillor in the way you've done
  10. Dear Laurie, Many thanks for following up on this -it's great news. I was just impressed that the council sorted out the traffic lights issue straight away. I'm glad Southwark are standing up to the big utility companies on our behalf, let's hope they follow the correct procedures in future. Thanks again for raising this with the council and seeing it through
  11. Vikki, I think it's disengenuous to suggest that the survey is there to obtain peoples opinions. It appears to me to be full of loaded questions intended soley to get people to complain about the councils performance. What is missing from your surevy and your blog is that we already have 3 labour councillors in Peckham Rye and have done for a long time. Why don't the existing labour councillors know what is going on? (This must be the case if your survey is to find out what peoples opinions are) Why aren't the existing labour councillors speaking to 550 people? Are the existing labour councillors not up to the job? If you 3 get elected will you be any different to the existing 3 labour councillors?
  12. Hiya, I was told by the guy behind the counter at the cafe that someone had broken in and tried to set fire to the place. The police were there and what I took to be a foresnics person ( police or fire brigade i know not which) was photgraphing smoky hand prints which were visible from the seating area.
  13. Just arrived at the caf? to find the remnants of a fire. Apparently somone broke in and tried to torch it. Caf? is still up and running. What's wrong with some people?
  14. Hiya clareC, The admissions book (available on the southwark website and nurseries, libraries etc) lists the furthest distance form the school that a child was admitted last year. I imagine this will vary from year to year and also depend on if the school had a buldge this year but it could give you an idea
  15. Hiya Newbie, It's not the council that are digging up the road or putting up the signs. The road works near Wood vale are a contractor of british gas. The one near Honor oak rise is a contractor of BT. I contacted the council about the Honor oak rise lights and today they were gone. If your concerned over the signs maybe drop them a line on Environment Services [email protected] 020 7525 2000 and see what they can do
  16. I wrote to the council and they wrote back last night. They're sending somone out today to see what the trouble is, hopefully they can sort it out. Thanks to the council for getting back to me so quickly
  17. Could someone from the labour team explain the source of the info that "southwark is the 10th worst recycler in the country"? do you mean 10th worst council? I find this hard to believe. I lived here under the last Labour adminstration and the recycling facilities were terrible, no doorstep collection at all. Whatever you say about the Council I don't think they're bad at recyling. My mom lives in the west midlands, her council wont recycle plastics and won't collect her garden waste. The other side of my road is in Labour controlled Lewisham and they don't have the same level of facilities as we do. Please quote the source of your claim
  18. I thought we already had 3 labour councillors in Peckham rye ward. What's happened to them? I notice on your blog that your talking about lots of things you want to sort out. If we already have 3 labour councillors in place why aren't they already sorting it out? Are the residnets of PR ward without representation? What's the story?
  19. On Forest Hill road there is one set of lights at the junction with Wood vale ( gas works), they've been there about two weeks. Today another company started digging up the road with another set of lights ~300m away on the junction with honor oak rise. I asked the new guys if their lights were co-ordinated with the ligths down the road - they're not. So there are cars "trapped" between the lights, people running the lights due to frustration and a general mess. Does anyone know who licenses road works or approves what works should go on at the same time? Particularly concerned as my wife is due to give birth any minute and together these roadworks have added ~20 mins onto our journey!! eek!
  20. My little boy has gone there since January. we find it absolutley brilliant, really lovely staff and we belive that he's really developed since being there.
  21. If you find yourself in this situation: Note down the taxi driver?s licence plate number from the back of the cab and report them to Ed Thompson, Director, Public Carriage Office (PCO), 15 Penton Street, Islington, London, N1 9PU. Email it via: https://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/contact/pco/taxi.aspx or call 0845 602 7000. Fax: 020 7126 1897. Email: [email protected] It is an offence and they can lose their licence for refusing a fair
  22. Absolutely brilliant! Glad the dallas chicken n' ribs has finally got the national coverage it deserves
  23. I saw this happening in sainsburys car park about 6 weeks ago. A fella with a bent coat hanger was fishing bags out of the SCOPE charity bins and going through them for presumably valuble items and throwing the rest on the floor. I asked him what he was doing and he responded very agressively accusing me of being " sick in the mind" and rascist. I explained i wasn't accusing him of anything but was interested in what he was doing he then threatened we with violence. I reported the incident to the security fella at the little desk in the store. He and another guard went to sort it out and when I passed by again the security man said the "fisher" had dispeared but they'd seen it happen before. It's plain and simple stealing from charity; from those who are worse off than the majority of us. If you do not know you can take something you can't take it. Car with a door left open and the engine running, pound lying on the ground, bag of clothes outside a shop; same rules apply It's not yours to take. No excuses
  24. she is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Beeny rich attractive and knows how to plaster which in my books ticks all of the boxes
