Anyone fancy Sydenham Wells Park tomorrow?
Fuschia replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Saturday will be a dry and fine day again, and with gentle winds it will feel quite warm with temperatures up on Friday's values. Sunday will be cloudier with the risk of a few showers but still potentially quite warm; From bbc -

Yes, we would either do that or go after nap (2ish) -

LordshipLaneMum Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So they had 80 applicants as first choice and have > 80 places...that seems a bit perfect? They will have 90 places, 3 classes of 30. Apparently there were 70 families chose it as 2nd or 3rd choice.

Back to work and expressing breast milk

If you drive in, you could express in the car ... with an adaptor if necessary -
One problem I can foresee is with a larger school roll, more siblings and harder in future years for non-siblings to get in.

Letter from the school to parents today.

Apparently there were 80 children choosing it as a first choice. They will all now get a place, it seems.

I'd ask Lewisham. I have a feeling they are a bit more together! But if in doubt, you really HAVE to accept the Lewisham place, can hardly risk refusing it. But unless Lewisham or the central system advises Southwark you have accepted the place, Southwark will still have you in the system here, won't they?

I was sure I'd seen somewhere that there was to be a softplay area provided as part of the refurb, but apparently not James Barber "Soft play not in the plans. Very little feedback in the public consultation for this. I did ask for this in the consultation. At the time my kids were 3 & 4. But little support so I'm afraid still a trek down to the Peckham Pulse for soft play..." What a missed opportunity :-(

Back to work and expressing breast milk
Fuschia replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went back to work (2 long days) when my twisn were 7m and I did need to express twice, otherwise I would have exploded. They took one or two feeds while I was away I needed to give the minder a total of 20z.. so 10z would be fine for a single baby but for a 9m old for half a day, one feed would be enough. I used to express at my desk (office full of women) and we just locked the door, but I have heard of womn using a first aid room. It is a legal right. You might find you don't need to express at all.. it's partly for your benefit, partly for theirs! -

I don't think that is the case. Not in the LEA I work, for sure. The latter is true but the former is expressly not, and the admissions booklet states that.. there are even schools like the one where I work, (not SouthwarK) with 80 part time nursery places but only 30 reception places! (Though we will have a bulge class and are going up to 60 this year) > > Also - I wish I knew for sure whether or not you > can get offers from both boroughs - can anybody > clarify??? From the same report "As of the end of January 2010 cut-off date, 3699 First Preference applications had been received on time for the 3156 Reception places available. ...If late applications are factored in ... this should result in an additional Borough-wide demand of 15-16fe... It was ... never envisaged that... refurbishments or, ...new builds could be delivered before 2011-12. As a consequence any increases for 2010-11 will continue, as per previous years, to be ?bulge? classes, that is one-off increases in the Reception intakes." Lewisham's plan for 2010, like Southwark's, has always been for bulge classes, according to this report.

However, the necessary capital is not currently available to convert any of these into permanent increases in schools? published admissions limits from 2011-12 onwards... (Hence) The immediate priorities are to: prioritise the delivery of temporary ?bulge? accommodation for 2010-11 and 2011-12; explore the potential for releasing some existing space in schools by increasing the number of mixed age classes; if and when sufficient finance is available, deliver permanent increases in PAL on existing school sites for delivery from 2011-12, and, in order to do so, consider incremental approaches to building projects; investigate possible new school sites for delivery from 2011-12 onwards negotiate other sites including co-locations for delivery from 2011-12 onwards ..."

THis year there is a common system for the first time. As long as that doesn't mean accepting a place somewhere removes you from the other LA's request list, it's OK...
