I was really surprised to find that out!
  3. Molly, interesting you managed with the ergo and a newborn as I prefer the ergo to the huggabub.. but I thought they weren't suitabke for newborns (though you can buy a newborn insert now I think)
  4. Yes, can alternate paracetemol and nurofen as long as don't exceed maximum ... effective for fever etc, that's what we do. Good to know that Sains by the library for eg sells both on the shelves, I guess any big supermarket does, then
  5. Sains times and phone no http://www.nhs.uk/ServiceDirectories/Pages/Pharmacy.aspx?oid=ph_FFP27++&pid=000001_SE228AA
  6. Can you not buy calpol over the counter in lots of shops, without going to the pharmacy? Hope she's better soon. There is a pharmacy by Lewisham Hosp which has very long hours, Westfields Streatham High RD is 24h, and Sainsburys is early to late 7 days p/w as a rule

  10. Well as it looks like you run dating websites for a living, I'm surprised you are so confused about the ins and outs and are expecting us to enlighten you... a cynic might say you just posted here for the free advertising, even...
  11. It is probably a stage though I do have friends with an early waker (still, at 7) and he has always been consistent!
  12. Ah, tomorrow at the South Bank looks your best bet http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/whatson/folk-against-fascism-village-fete-article-9562.html
  13. Oh dear, that listing was from 2007 Try this: http://kid-friendly-travel-destinations.suite101.com/article.cfm/the-best-2010-may-day-events-for-kids-in-london Though there is traditional mayday stuff in Rochester/Hastings and some stuff on at Dulwich Picture Gallery
  14. You might need to go to Greenwich or Battersea Pk http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/events/article-23394629-best-events-for-the-bank-holiday-weekend.do
  15. I think it is part of the nurery experience, they learn about separation and that you do return. Do the staff confirm that he is Ok once you have left? Do they cuddle him? I find it easiest to lesve mine if I can put them into someone's arms rather than trying to unwrap their little hands from my legs (sob!) I think just keep saying... "You will have a lovely time. Mummy has to go shopping but I will be back very soon" then when you return "Mummy came back!"
  16. Son no 1 (one morning pw at Puddleduck) cried from October to March....
  17. I put my twins name down for puddleducks (small fee) Buds (no fee) when they were tiny, and Hevber soon as they were two. VBut we only need term time only 15h p/w after age of 3, not a ft nursery place.
  18. How about just going to peckham pulse softplay at a time that suits you?
  19. In the small pool? Sessions much the same IME
  20. I think I have always been postive about GG.. my view is that everyone should attend their local school, and in these days of scarce places it would be foolish for a family not to put their closest school as first choice. However I stand by my view that for a local councillor (responsible for the standards in local schools) to poo poo the OFSTED process is just trying to deflect criticism away from Southwark. The latest monitoring report shows a lot of improvements and speaks well of the new school leadership. But is is just out and out untrue that the OFSTED process doesnt have teaching and learning at its core (and I selected content from the reports that shows indeed they do!) If James Barber is ignorant of school standards and the inspection regime then he is hardly in a position to advise people here! If GG was my local school, I would certainly apply to it and hope to get a place. But I would also want to see it out of special measures asap, and I wouldn't be very impressed if someone tried to tell me the OFSTED process is irrelevant. Edited to add: I did post something to a thread in June 09 where there was a discussion about GG "I think if your child is at a school in special measures, you need to get a copy of the action plan, arrange regular meetings between parents, chair of governors and the headteacher, and raise your concerns if you feel your child's teacher is not performing adequately. Sadly, a child who has a bad year due to poor teaching will never get to repeat that year, and some years like reception, year 1, year 2, year 6 are particularly key. I think I'd choose an improving school locally rather than a school miles away, if that was the choice! But while resources are aimed at schools in SM, those resources are not always effective, sadly." http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?25,273848,page=3

  23. Getting some CDs you can sing along to is a good idea if you are not naturally musical. We like Elizabeth Mitchell and Woody Guthrie (folk-y stuff)
  24. Newtoedf, what will your childcare plans be once your little one is at full time school? Once you have a plan for that, you will know if you can usefully access a school nusery place (you will probably need a childminder locally to do the other half of the day.. in our case this cost the same as a full day at the minders, price only went down once our child was 5)

This was the thing I was posting in response to. Because I don't read any of the reports on GG as not giving emphasis on teaching (or learning!)
