After correspondence with the council regarding delays in dog poo being cleared up, I got the follieing from Barrie hargrove today 'As previously reported, Southwark's target response time for the clearance of dog mess is 48 hours. ? Whilst writing, I'd like to report another action that Southwark's Cleaning Service managers have agreed?to implement with immediate effect following your email. All street cleaners will be given refresher training from Monday 16th, reminding them of the need to clear dog mess should they come across it during the cleaning duties. All staff, both litter pickers and sweepers have been provided with appropriate equipment to undertake this task and should be doing so on a routine basis. ? As we can all?acknowledge, this aspect of their work is not the most popular among the?team and?they will tend to overlook such deposits if they feel they can. To discourage this in future, additional monitoring of the staff is?being implemented and spot checks across the borough will be taking place more frequently to ensure staff are carrying out the full range of their duties. ? I believe that this additional work will?hopefully eliminate altogether and failing that certainly reduce the need for you to report dog fouling in future.?'
