Food preferences at dinner parties
Fuschia replied to new mother's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I obviously get invited to the wrong class of dinners! Never been to an externally catered one.. unless you count the host calling out for a curry. But nothing wrong with that... if I have been invited to dinner or lunch at a friends I am just glad to see them. Would never quibble about the food. I went out for lunch Sunday, actually, taking baby and Twin 2. The hostess (very well brought up person) texted me to ask if I liked blue cheese... I said I did.. she made a quiche half stilton and half turkey (as I am veggy) and did pizza for the children. I mentioned that twin 2 sometimes turns her noses up at pizza but go ahead, but added that she loves raw veg.. i know my friend's daughter does too.. in the end twin ate the pizza no fuss along with some crudites. I then posted a pic of my baby and hers, onto my FB and we exchanged chat about how nice it all was. I am sure that has satisfied everyone's sensitivities on this occasion! -
They are externally marked tests.. so there is little chance for schools to fiddle it... in case that is a worry. Anyway, i would judge a school on its OFSTED report, your own feelings and esp what is said and what you see in nursery/reception because that's the bit that will have immediate impact on your child. esp if there is a new head, what's going on in Y6 will surely change by the time your child gets there anyway!! Look at what they do re phonics, how they teach literacy/numeracy, how much of the day is dedicated to that and how much free play, what outside space they have, how many staff in the reception class, that sort of thing. Different schools will suit different children, of course.
-
Yes, for a one fe school, 30 pupils in Y6, each pupil = 3% approx If the Y6 isn't full, or some are disapplied, even more But the previous levels of each group of children, mobility etc vary so much year on year that although the headline figure may drop form one year to the next, esp for a small school, it can still be the case that the school is doing better than before, when you consider the improvement since KS1. Great store is put by these results by the govt/league tables, and although clearly it's the school and its effectiveness that produces those eventual results, you can't mnake assumptions from a school whose results are not continually improving... Having said that, for any school to get 100% is impressive, with any cohort!
-
The results each year represent a differ cohort, so you can't really glean much from he trend

I would expect the child to sit where I had planned! Or at least their pa to cooperate re children coming for food, ESP without their parents,I usually try to plan food that they definitely like...though I wouldn't expect others to do the same for mine... If I m told they are having something I think they may not like,I tend to leave it and just tell my kids to be polite! I agree it's good for them to get used to being offered stuff that's not their favourite. -

Has anyone been on a Mark Warner ski holiday with baby?
Fuschia replied to Al&Em's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I would have thought a baby who likes to sleep in the buggy is very well suited for jet setting! -
Maybe try a long walk in the buggy each day at about 10? She sounds over tired by 11 Probably she has the sort of personality that doesnt like to stop? Otherwise, give her a large snack or milk at 1030, then try for a nap then, proper lunch after My twins had 2h nap after creche before lunch from sbout 17-24m, couldn't stsy awake long enough to eat! I worried at the time (2.15pm lunch followed by mad dash school run and dinner at 5 they just messed about with) but it sorted itself out in the end When things fall into place I feel all smug then next thing I Know we are in an awkward stage and I feel all rubbish! But the main thing is getting enough sleep I would say get up early, get out, do stuff, eat, see if that sends her off on The way home

Just reading my link again http://www.justthefactsbaby.com/baby/article/changing-from-two-naps-to-one/107/4 Very good advice from Elizabeth pAntley about 1 nap vs 2
-
I think you should invite us to dinner knomeister :-)
-
With mine, when on 2/3 naps they have been 45m-75m The 2h nap came only once there were on one lunchtime nsp
-
What is the problem with the morning nap (IME they don't drop that nap till well over a year) I thought you ssid she was at nursery and they have a routine of morning naps only? Dies that mean she won't nap in the morning for you on other days? I woukdnt worry too much about a strict routine or 'the next stage ' When they are getting close to Dropping a nap it's normal to nap some days not others anyway I would def put her down in thd mornings - she sounds exhausted and the slow eating and miseries is a sign 45 mins odd is fine (one sleep cycle) if she wakes refreshed If she wakes crying and us miserable I would try resettling her for a second sleep cycle My latest is 13m Has an Hour reliably in the mOrning, about 2h after getting up Afternoon Nap is more hit and miss (2 x school runs get on The way, noisy children etc) but is usually one further hour Nights - 6.30/7 - 7ish
